  1. Your forgot Theo's famous comment - " We are not the Yankees"? Instead of getting proven players - this team is trying to get washed out, injured or NL pitchers in some pet projects that never works out. For $10 million - they refused to sign the most important hitter of the last off-season. Not only that - John Henry said - the negotiations are dead paving way for the Yankees. After that he twitered that the curse of Tex has begun with the Yankees. That sounds to me like an arrogant person who is living in the past( 2004, 2007). Let us say the Red Sox can up the payroll to $200 million. What would be the business reason for them to do that if that earns the same revenue as $130 million? Red Sox used to be the second in payroll - now they will be in top 5? Look at the play-off teams these year - they all have spent money ( well Mets being exception that did poorly with their payroll). Red Sox currently is a good team that may go to playoff again next year. They are not even close to a championship team. And they will not be unless they commit to veteran players instead of 'projects' and compete with teams like the Yankees. Edit - My question was why would the Red Sox FO spend more money if Fenway seats never go empty anyway in case it was not clear earlier.
  2. Re: support - if the fans keep extending the attendence record - irrespective of Henry and co.'s reluctance to spend money - why would the FO spend the extra money? Even though we all know they have it? Not trying to say we should not support the team - but that is a legit question.
  3. He is right in the sense I am not as serious as some other posters. I come here to see different opinions - and share my own. It might occur to someone that I am not putting lot of thought into my posts - and I don't care. It is not my day job.
  4. I really wanted Tex and was disappointed with the outcome - but I got over it. But what really ticked me off was the way FO advertised everything regarding that deal. They could have been little discrete - in that case it would not have blown to their face the way it did.
  5. Let us say Theo makes it a top priority for argument's sake - it will be hardly easy to get one. Power is the most sought comodity in the league because of short supply - more than starting pitchers or closers.
  6. I guess in a long season we have come around and agreed on lot of points. Problem is it will be hard to get a real clean-up hitter. They don't grow on trees - and we have no one in our farm ( not Lars for sure).
  7. Let us look at it this way if it makes you feel better. Yankees always had the best resources in terms of money. It is to some part luck and to some part bad personel decisions that they have not won a championship this decade. Looks like finally they got the best team money can buy and they have been due for a while. I am just happy to be where the Sox are in this decade compared to the Yankees given the fact that they have been out-spent by them all the time.
  8. We both agreed Theo has done a good job with home -grown player development. I am saying his performance is sub-par in terms of trades and free agent acquisitions with the resources he has. You completely disagree. Let us move on - we made our points. I am sure instead of going back and forth in message boards - we can use our time in better way. Like spending time with family, earn more money to name a few.
  9. You missed my point. That's OK.
  10. I applogize that I do not get in the message board much because of my work load - that's the reason I am posting so late. ORS brings up a good point that Theo in spite of his mistakes is a good GM if you look at 29 other teams in the league. The question is in MLB there is no cap - so is it fair to accesss the performance of Yankeee/Sox GM's with others? Cleveland Browns have sucked for such a long time in a cap league - and the GM is responsible - but if the Indian's suck - is it the fault of Shapiro - or is it the cheap owners? In other words - with Theo'r resources - will I trust Billy Beane more? The answer for me to that question is absolutely yes. Also let me reassure you I am nottrying to discredit Theo or FO. I say things that I feel are correct and I try not to look at them in a fan's biased eyes. I don't think it is at all wrong to critisize my team if it can be made better by improving. I know most people here do not feel that way - but it is not a bad thing for a message board to have a different opinion like mine.
  11. Stupid twins will go down in 3 in ALDS. With Detroit - there was a chance that the Yanks could have lost.
  12. Just came home from work - which channel in TV is the game on?
  13. We will have our difference - so let me voice mine. Mirabelli was a waste of roaster spot for long time - he was there just because Tek refused to catch Wakefield. Since then almost all Sox catchers caught him successfully including V-Mart. That should put an end to the myth that only Belli can catch Wake. Meridith was virtually unhittable for a long stretch of time. Yeah I know diff. league etc. Bard could have been a better back-up than what we had. Arroyo is no Cy-Yound winner but we could have used him really in 2006 when all no names were pitching for us at the end of the season.
  14. #1 in my list is Mirabelli trade. #2 WMP. #3 Gagne. Free agent signing we have too many examples : Smoltz, Penny, Lugo, failure to sign Tex, failure to resign Bay in a bad economy, overpaying for Drew etc. etc. I wont even mention Carlos Pena. By the way - Theo has been one of the best with home grown players - absolutely. Thats what makes his other records look bad.
  15. Glad I made you laugh - did you see the first part? Check out what % of his trades and free agent signings have worked out since 2004.
  16. Exactly what I wanted to say. Other reason is our starters came back from injuries - so we can DFA 'sure losers' like Smoltz or Penny.
