  1. This is why I was calling all the people wanting to go grab Scherzer crazy. Boras gets what he wants for his top tier clients. He priced Scherzer out of Boston the day they turned down Detroits offer haha
  2. No most teams aren't looking to dump their aces this time of year. But the team has done enough to the rotation to keep them in it until June-July when teams will be looking to deal.
  3. 7/210M for Scherzer, to be paid 15M a year for 14 years. Has to be one of the most interesting contract concept I have seen yet. I'd keep Swihart no matter what. I would be more willing to say Betts for Strasburg maybe. I like Betts a lot but he's blocked in the IF and could be replaced easier then say a top of the rotation SP. But with Strasburg you get Boras, which likely means no extension and it will cost 200M+ to sign him on the open market. And with that my interest flys out the window on trading Betts. I'm also reading a rumor that the Brewers are going to make a run on Zimmerman after trading Gallardo earlier today. Zimmerman turned down a pretty big extension offer from the Nats because he wanted to pitch closer to home(Wisconsin). If the Nats deal Zim they won't be dealing anyone else.
  4. I thought he would get marginally more than Tanaka did and initial reports were saying 7/180's. Now a recent report says it could be 200M+ with big deferrals. Absolutely happy the Sox passed on this. That is madness for a guy that has averaged 5 and 2/3 IP per start in his career. I understand he's good but seriously?
  5. Swihart and Betts are the most untouchable prospects the Sox have. So glad Scherzer is going to the Nats.. I did not need to see him struggle gettng to the 6th inning for the next 7 years
  6. I've been saying the Nats were a Dark Horse for him all off season. The Nats have money to be a top 5 spender in the league and are now showing it. Reports are 7 year deal but not $ figures yet.
  7. Apologies if this is being discussed elsewhere and I have missed it but what's everyone's thoughts on this supposed phenom from Cuba Yoan Moncada? He seems to be one of the biggest hyped players from Cuba to date. From what I've read he has 4 good tools in hit, power, arm and speed he looks to be a legit upper echelon prospect. I think the Sox need to be all in on him. Tho LAD and NYY are in the running too, not to mention if he doesn't get cleared before the end of the signing period the Sox will lose the chance to sign him and the Cubs would gain the chance. I don't think it's gonna take 6 months for him to get cleared tho.
  8. I think he get's marginally more than Tanaka. Like 7/180M.
  9. Boras may like to blow smoke but he's right in this is an ownership level choice on Scherzer. DD can say all he wants but if Detroit's owner says do it he will have no say in the matter. It's probably one of the big factors in why there is little buzz in the media on Scherzer. Boras is dealing directly with owners and when doing that leaks are far less likely as most owners aren't flapping their gums to the media about negotiations.
  10. No GM wants to be the next Boras victim lol
  11. Rizzo may not get booed out of town by the fans at Fenway, but the media and large parts of the fan base who don't have time for guys to take 3 seasons to get it together would have had a field day with him.
  12. I'm surprised they managed to get a warm body for him lol
  13. Sox are already over the LT. I don't see them going Yankee/Dodger territory by signing Shields or Scherzer. That would be against the general MO of the franchise. Rumors also have them as a contender for the Cuban phenom Moncada. I'm pretty sure if they signed him that's going towards the LT too. That's another 70-80M(30-40M to Moncada +100% tax). Does anyone honestly see the team spending another 200M+ this off season? I think it would be an absolute shocker if they did that personally. I think they stand pat on anything big(except Moncada) for the rest of the off season and make big moves if needed between June and ST 2016.
  14. Ya there is the Papi incident, but I think they sort that out eventually. I just think Price will be the better bet for the duration of the deal. Both are gambles for sure.
  15. Just out of curiosity if you had they choice of Scherzer this year or Price next year which would you choose?
  16. Doesn't make sense. No way he signs for less then the 160M(Boras's version)-140M(Detroits version) and at that point why wouldn't they just have offered that to Lester? If they sign him whatever, I will hope for the best but I'll always have trouble watching him because his arm action makes me grimace.
  17. Exactly. That is why it seems unnecessary at this point in time to add Shields or Scherzer.
  18. The rotation has enough potential as is to keep them in contention for a 90+ win season. If they are in contention come June-July they will probably look to add a SP. If for whatever reasons they are out of it come the TDL they can clean house in the rotation again and go hard in next off season on the trade and FA market. All tho I don't like big long term deal for SP I'd rather offer one to Price as opposed to Scherzer and Shields. I'd also take a page out of the Marlins book and offer an opt out after the 4th year on a 7 year deal and hope he takes it lol
  19. You build a rotation to win 90+ games during the regular seasons and get you into the playoffs. Once the post season starts it's all about who is hot at that time imo.
  20. Rays are in total rebuild mode. They won't be a threat again for awhile. I can't even begin to guess at what the A's are doing. Beane is sending mixed signals for sure.
  21. I would wager it will come somewhere before the TDL and next off season. They aren't paying Shields 20M less then what they offered. I think people who think that will happen are in denial haha Scherzer isn't happening either. The "only" 2 scenarios I see as possibilities before the season are, 1. Scherzer signs with Detroit and Detroit trades Price. 2. Scherzer signs in DC and they Trade Zimmerman. Other than that I just don't see it happening.
  22. Kelly needs to take that next step and if he can he could be an mid to top of the rotation starter. If he doesn't he will end up being a flame throwing late inning reliever imo.
  23. Congrats to Pedro one of my all time favorites
  24. Reports say Shields already has 110M deal in hand. If it wasn't a no before it should be a no now for sure.
  25. If he had ended the year healthy we probably be hearing tons on him. But it's very doubtful anyone will give up anything or take on his salary until he proves he is healthy and effective.
