  1. Panda sucked when he went skinny. Let him be pudgy(within reason). He's DHing in a couple years anyways.
  2. There are no guarantees in baseball lol
  3. JBJ in a package for Kimbrel could make sense. They don't really need an expensive closer while rebuilding.
  4. You just described this seasons Yanks squad.
  5. What most are over looking is if a stadium is Built for the Olympics and the Sox take it over when it concludes then a would imagine a good size chunk of the stadium costs will be covered by who bidding for Olympics. I'd like to see a stadium built, then after it's done take the rest of the summer to remodel/retool it and make it the Red Sox home. I'd like them to keep the "on field" look of the park with maybe so minor tweaks in the dimensions. I also really like Pals idea of moving the Pawsox to the Original Fenway for baseball(there is plenty of other ways of renting the venue to keep it up). Make it a living museum where families can bring their kids see the history, get an on field experience that won't cost you to re-mortgage your house and some good minor league ball at the end. I think having both stadiums can work.
  6. http://www.csnne.com/boston-red-sox/fenway-here-stay?p=ya5nbcs&ocid=yahoo Interesting point. I don't think they would ever tear it down(I'm not even sure they are allowed to anymore), but I could see them moving into a new stadium if one was built for the Olympics. I would just hope after the Olympics are over the stadium would have some remodeling to make it a Baseball stadium.
  7. Fred blood pressure will go down now that he's in camp in not pulling a Manny. If healthy I think Ramirez has a big year.
  8. I've seen a decent amount about Moncada, but Alvarez I've heard literally nothing, but this guy claims he's "the hottest name in baseball". Did I miss anyone talking about him around here? I'll link the footage below. edit: I watched the video. He's got some talent for an 18 year old, but nothing was eye popping imo.
  9. Yankees Predictions, Ellsbury rebounds for a good season, Tanaka needs TJS by June. CC continues his slide and misses time because of his knee, Gardner does his usual, Beltran produces with bat but shows his age int he field, Tex manages 130 games with decent numbers, the new SS is great in the field but terrible at the plate causing fans to call for his head, Drew doesn't transition well to full time 2B, McCann rebounds but still doesn't live up to expectations, I think Headley has the best all around offensive year and his resigning will be a big positive, Yanks BP is lights out on the back end, Pineda doesn't crack 200 IP but has a good year, the kid with the big WHIP the got from the Marlins gets pummeled. The there is Arod. I have no idea how they play this thing out. I can see them using him at DH, 1B and 3B in a pinch, I can see them letting him rot in the bench and hope he decides to leave, and I can see them figuring out some kind of buyout. In the end I think he's going to be a distraction for the team and with the Captain gone I think it has a bad impact on the Yankees in 2015. But they have the talent to compete if all their ? come through. I don't see that as likely tho. After missing the playoffs 3 years running I expect them to do some major thing in the off season. I'm not really sure what because there is so much dead money on the roster for the next couple years.
  10. Tug was a classic Mark Tehan was another one I remember him crushing on hard. I like it tho cause he usually brings in some good info on guys that don't get a lot of the spotlight. Nava is by far is his Championship belt lol
  11. I'll take a last place finish and the chance at a Kris Bryant any day over pointless .500 seasons. And Theo has taken 3 years because that's how awful that roster and system was. Seriously it was putrid and is now one of the tops in the league. Theo is there for the next few years imo. While the on field product may not have hit it's stride yet the franchise as a whole is leaps and bounds better than it was when he got there. No it's not all him obviously, but he deserves credit for what he has done. If I was a Cubs fan I would be happy with the direction of the team. They could surprise this year but I think they are contenders in 2016.
  12. Because this is a thread for everyone's prediction's. User's is a specific yearly piece, just like a700's ST thread from his time in Fort Myers. But there will also be a "general" ST thread.
  13. It's that time of year, User lit the fire with his yearly predictions and now it's time for everyone else to get in on it. The roster is pretty well set for ST and we have dissected every move/non move to absurdity(I jest, this off season has been rather pleasant around here). My predictions take into account career averages, age/career trajectory, and my own opinions on players/teams. I'm not bothering with trying to predict the BP results other than to say I think they are an above average unit. The Offense( also my predicted lineup order ) 2B Pedroia- I have stated my concerns over his ability to stay healthy and effective over the course of the season. So I am going with 130 games, .270/.350/.440 8 HR, 70 RBI RF Victorino- If healthy I think he starts in RF and Betts gets the Super Two avoidance card and starts the year in the minors. But it's also very possible he forces his way onto the 25 man roster. But for now I will go with Vic. 120 games .270/.340/.450 10 HR 5% RBI. LF Ramirez- I'm expecting big things for Ramirez after him spending the winter under Papis guidance. I think it will make a difference. 140 games, .320/.400/.540 25 HR 100 RBI DH Papi- Papi continues to be Papi but health is always in the back of your mind with him. He looks great and I think he has a good season, 140 games .280/.380/.560 30 HR 105 RBI 1B Napoli- I expect a good year from Napoli as it's his last chance at a multi year deal considering his age. 140 games .260/.370/.480 20 HR 85 RBI 3B Sandoval- I think he has a good year not great as he transitions to the AL. 155 games, .270/.330/.450 15 HR 80 RBI SS Bogaerts- I'm am anticipating a step forward this year from Bogey 140 games, .270/.360/.440 15 HR 70 RBI C Vasquez- He's a defensive whiz and the bat is gravy. 120 games, .240/.320/.400 8 HR 50 RBI CF Castillo- I'm pulling numbers from air here, there's really no telling with him. 125 games .250/.330/.400 10 HR 50 RBI The Bench: Even tho I expect Betts to begin the year in the minors I am going to put him here as I think he see's a decent amount of games over the course of the year. I really like his potential but I'm going to temper my expectations a touch. 95 games, .280/.350/.400 10 HR 50 RBI Craig- I think he will see time in LF and 1B and occasionally DH if he's on the roster. 90 games, .265/.360..480 15 HR 60 RBI Nava- He is what he is, he will be all over the field. 100 games .260/.350/.350 7 HR 40 RBI Holt- I like him in the super utility role. I think it maximizes his value without getting over exposed. 100 games, .265/.320/.360 5 HR 40 RBI Hanigan- Veteran C enough said really. 40-45 games, .230/.300/.320 5 HR 25 RBI The Rotation: Rick Porcello- 17-8 3.15 ERA 210 IP 30 starts(extended in season) Joe Kelly- 16-10 3.70 ERA 190 IP 25 starts Wade Miley- 15-10 4.00 ERA 220 IP 30 Starts Justin Masterson- 10-7 4.20 ERA 180 IP 25 Starts Buchholz- 15-5 3.50 ERA 180 IP 25 starts The remaining 27 games to be started- 11-16 4.70 ERA The Team: I like the team overall. Good potential but also flexible enough to change it up if some players aren't working out. I'm guessing 90-95 wins. 90 is probably in WC contention. 95 they will be in contention for the division. The Division: 1. Boston 2. Toronto 3. Baltimore 4. New York 5. TB
  14. He's the last notable signing I see the Sox possibly getting. But the competition is steep. All the big boys are in play for him. I'd like to see the Sox get him but won't be shocked if they don't. I'm hoping the Yanks miss out although they really should be all over this kid and probably are.
  15. I would argue Hamels is not prime age. He is still in his prime but leaving it soon. He also sucks against the AL. He is not worth Swihart imo. Swihart is about as untouchable as they come for me. If he is used in a package it should be for a young cost controlled top of the rotation P. They have their own version of Hamels in Owens. They should just keep the money and prospects and see how he pans out.
  16. A page and a half of blocked iortiz posts. Is he on a bender on something?
  17. Ortiz would hit .350 every year if he would just take some singles by hitting it to the left side occasionally lol
  18. From what I have seen so far the reports are saying probably 7th inning guy.
  19. I like this signing. He has good versatility when healthy. If his arm falls apart it's not a contractual burden.
  20. I liked him as a depth signing too but let's be fair, during his good years he was a 3.7ish avg era guy in pitching friendly NL West. So there wasn't a ton of upside past an innings eater. I'd like to see them get Ogando but I'm guessing his elbow doesn't look good or some team would have grabbed him by now given his track record and versatility.
  21. I love Pedey but that trade wouldn't disgust me since they have Betts. Pedroia's health issues are a big concern as he starts his extension. If they could get out from under that deal it should be considered. I don't see it as likely tho and I know you were most likely just kidding around but it's something to consider.
  22. Most of the teams spending the big bucks tv deals run longer then the contracts they are giving out. They will have time to tell if the money is going to dry up with tv deals and then will adjust the payroll accordingly imo. These teams give out these deals because they can afford to. When TB starts giving out this type of deal then it may be time to worry.
  23. It looks like right now the prospects are the depth, which seems pretty normal Pal. Maybe we are misunderstanding you.
  24. Zimmerman is due for free agency next off season and already turned down a large extension offer. Strasburg is a FA in 2 years and Boras is his agent so there is 0.01 chance of an extension and he will cost one of Boras's generational contracts to sign. They have a hole at 2B and a deep rotation they could trade from to fill it with a quality player. But needless to say it's no guarantee they will move anyone. I can totally see them keeping everyone and going all in this year. I think if they do move anyone it will be Zim to the Brewers.
  25. It will just mean the Sox have spots to fill and money to burn. You never know who is going to be available year to year. We know the SP market looks deep next off season. Will all those guys make it to FA? No. But I bet a lot see the huge $ being thrown around and will be tempted to gamble. But regardless a decent amount of those guys will hit FA. You also don't know who will be available via trade. Some team will decide to rebuild, or someone will start getting too pricey via arbitration for some teams liking. Good SP will be available. Now whether or not that falls into the Sox price range $ or prospect wise, we will have to wait and see.
