  1. As far as I see it, we didn't have a closer last yr at this time, before Foulke we didn't have a closer but Lowe for a season or two. We have never had a great closer(besides Paps last yr), no team besides NYY and SD have had shut down guys for closers for an extended amount of time. Closers come and go faster then Blunts at a Snoop Dogg show. You use one while he works and then when he doesn't you move on to the next guy. Hansen and MDC will be solid this yr I think, yes jackson I know you think there ruined, but most pitchers hit bumps in the rd along the way. yes hansen was rushed but he has enough talent to bounce back and he might not even be on the team after ST. Hansen,MDC and a couple other guys are pretty much fighting for one spot. Manny,Papi,Youk,Pedroia,Drew,Lugo,Lowell,Crisp,Pena,Hinske,Tek,Marabelli,Cora(13) Schilling,Beckett,Matsuzaka,Paps,Wakefield(5) Timlin,Donnely,Pinerio,Okajima ,Romero,Tavarez (6) Theres only one spot left for either MDC,Hansen,Hansack, ect. So someone will be starting the season in AAA barring injury.
  2. Look for his numbers to be like Nomo's 1st yr in the bigs or better. He has better stuff and is an all around better pitcher then Nomo.
  3. Trust me, I like schilling and am grateful for what he did, but Pedro,Damon,Lowe, OC, Bill M. where all part of that team too and gave it there all but we let them all walk when the team thought there where over pricing themselves, its the same thing with Schilling it just happend a couple yrs later. Besides the FO has been making plans for the money that they wouldn't be paying him in 08 after he said 07 was his last season.
  4. And if he turns out to be a player like that then I say f*** him. I wouldn't want a guy like that on the team anyway. Besides, no matter what the contract situation is hes going to pitch his ass off. Because if Boston doesn't sign him he will be looking for a new team, he has to look good no matter what. If he is a pain in the ass and pitches like s*** no one will want him.
  5. I was all for getting Helton as long as we didn't empty the farm to get him. COL was trying a salary dump I don't care what they say, and when your dumping salary on another team they shouldn't get any top prospects like there where insisting upon. If your only taking 30M or so of a 90M contract you get 2nd tier guys, example, the Abreu trade for the NYY. Them asking for some of our top guys was obserd and I'm glad Theo put his foot down. Lucchino was the one pushing for the deal to get done, I'm really not starting to like him, he seems to be turning out to be one of those win at all cost right now and sink the future of the team.
  6. P,SS,3B
  7. Let him become a FA at the end of the season. If he pitches good then offer him the one yr deal then. If he doesn't let some other team sign him. Letting him hit the FA market is no big deal, he wants to stay in Boston, Even if some other club offers him more money, we can still say that he said 13M would be enough to bring him back. If he all the sudden ups his price then let him walk. I love Schilling but to sign him to a yr extension now is not money well spent. He earned the respect of everyone for the championship he helped bring, but if he wants a yr extension then I say make him earn it this yr and if he does talk contract in November 07.
  8. 16-7 3.73 ERA 190 innings 200K's 50BB
  9. I wish the trade some of those pics and move up in the draft to get Calvin Johnson(fat chance) but that be so nice to have a talented dominating #1 reciever for a change. I think there first pick if he is still there will be the LB from Penn state, I can't spell his name so I won't even attempt it it starts with a P. I think there later 1st rounder will get them one of the top 5 recievers that slips threw the first round. Ted Ginn JR is a possiblity along with the WR from USC, Edwards. ESPN's Mel Kiper JR thinks these two will fall to the late 1ST round. Asante is a must sign, he looks to be the heir to Ty Law, and thats saying something. With the O line and D line full of players signed for the next few years I expect most the draft pics/FA will be WR, DEF secondary and LB's.
  10. Not much going on now with only 13 days left until pitchers and catchers report, not even any good rumors, figured this was something worth posting with nothing else going on. Phils Sign Brett Myers The Phillies gave Brett Myers a three-year deal today, buying out his first year of free agency. Why do good things happen to bad people? The contract covers his age 27-29 seasons, and it's a good deal for the Phillies. Our old friend PECOTA values him at $36.6MM over that same time period (of course, he wouldn't have had full leverage for 2007-08). Myers and Cole Hamels will make a very solid 1-2 punch for the next three years.
  11. I think it was good of him to announce now he was coming back in 08 instead of having all of the sappy last games and all that BS then coming out and saying hes coming back. 13M is a bargain, and unless the FO has the money planned other places like he said I would welcome Schilling back with open arms. He can't be any worse then a 4 in the rotation, and if thats so then Schilling is a damn good 4 and better then most in the league.

I thought the only players who got rings where players on the playoff roster? I could be mistaken tho.
  13. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2748744[link] hahahahaha MLB rejected the contract because of all the BS they had to put in it for Bonds legal troubles! I'm sure it will get done but it is funny tho.
  14. I'm originally from Maine, I met Mike Bordick a few times and Billy Swift used to come to our spring training sessions when I was a kid to do a couple of lessons. I'm related to Matt Kinney too, he's pitched in the bigs but no a household name or anything.
  15. I just lost all of the respect I had for the Giants organization. Nobody should sign this tool, then maybe he would just go away. But he would then probably write a book on how he was forced by someone to take roids and the dramatic effect its had on him... I despise Barry Bonds, he just annoy's the hell out of me.
  16. But by then it was too late to do anything of consequence. The injury excuse like you said they could not use anymore, so they used the poverty, they had to come up with something because I have the feeling the FO had already started plaining for 07 at that point. They obviously had to say something to the fans to make them think they where concerned about the season when the really weren't.
  17. Linda is one of those fans(I use that term lightly) that looks at wins and losses and no other stats. Same types just pay attention to BA HR and RBI for hitters ignoring, OBP, OPS win shares and all the others. 5.56 ERA? hahaha I know some of our guys aren't the greatest but holy s*** if you think thats a goos ERA for half a yr then you have more issues...
  18. Last yr was a wash. Injuries, pitching woes, weak lineup, players under achieving, I think the FO knew once the wheels started to come off that they had a very small chance of holding onto the AL East without emptying the farm system. They pleaded poverty and all that crap, but I think without saying it directly wanted to save there money and players and have a clean slate in 07.
  19. That looks like a nice rotation, just as long as Schilling doesn't have a problem not being the number one then there shouldn't be any issues and for that price he would be a quality pick up. I see him as comparable tot he quality of Pettite for the NYY. 13-15 wins, 3.5-4.5 ERA 175-200+ innings, Pettite is making 16m+ a yr, Schilling would be a bargain at 12M.
  20. Is Linda still spewing her Dodger propaganda around?
  21. http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=179924[link] Those ass's in COL only wanted to pay 27M of the 90M left on the contract, then had the balls to ask for a top prospect possibly 2. What the hell is the GM/owner smoking? When you try to rid your club of a contract like Helton's you don't get top tier prospects. No wonder this deal fell apart, I for one am Glad to see Theo put his foot down on this one. If Col was going to swallow half the contract, then I would see why they wanted MDC or Hansen, but when you only want to take on a quater of the contract you get nothing but money and maybe 2nd tier prospects/ and the veterans like Lowell and Taveras. But like I said yesterday, if the deal fell threw I wouldn't cry about it because I still like the looks of our team in 07, Helton would have been a nice addition to the lineup but not an absolute must. I don't think we have heard the end of these discussions tho like COL owner is leading to.
  22. The owner def. seems to be back tracking a little bit, everything out of his mouth now is " oh Todd is great, slurp slurp slurp, we have a chance to win the division and like to do it with todd, slurp slurp slurp". What an ass clown. He just trying to make himself look good.
  23. I wouldn't mind see Schilling back for another year. That means theres only one spot to fill in the rotation next off season, assuming Lester takes the other one. And that also like someone else said gives the B's another year in the minors to develop. And at 12M a year thats a good deal for a quality pitcher. No he's not a 1 or even a 2, but you can justify saying hes a 3 or 4, and I would rather have Schilling in the rotation then some other clowns out there.
  24. The GM doesn't even get back into town until today. I def. think the Sox are mad cause of Lowell and Taveras names getting leaked. The Sox and Rox have never had great chemistry like say the do with SD. So I give this trade a 10% chance of happening and I think thats being fairly optomistic.
  25. I can understand why he doesn´t, with recent trades ending up the way they have. I f he trades MDC and he becomes a good RP then everyone will want to know and give him s*** for trading him, unless the Sox win a 1 or a couple of championships during Heltons tenure. I like that we are taking value in our young pitchers but MDC doesn´t look like he´s going to be a lights out kind of guy. But hes a relief pitcher, id rather see them send a reliever the other way instead of a starter.
