I'd be more convinced if he was maybe "Rollercoasting" instead if a steady downfall in production. His career numbers obviously show that he should hit better eventually. But maybe he's just having an off year, who knows? I'm not saying it will be impossible for him to bounce back. But how long should they wait? And how much will it cost the team?
C is what it is for the season. I don't see the Sox getting V-Mart, not with them just getting Laroche. I don't believe any other Catcher of consequence is available. unless The Twins want Buchholz really badly.
RF? C'mon. Drew is here for at least the season. And probably the better part if not all of his contract. They may get a RF, but Drew will be going to LF. The Sox would have to take on some money or send money with Drew to trade him. ATL and maybe SF could be desperate enough for a Bat. But that's a long shot.
3B has been taken care of it would seem. The acquisition of Laroche takes care of it. With Laroche playing 1B and Youk playing 3B.
A dominant pitcher is always a possibility. I will give you that.
Outside of that your looking at SS and LF as the only viable spots to improve the offense with an everyday player.
