  1. See there's my problem. I wasn't considering the two years before the new deal kicks in. I was thinking of the deal being a flat 5 year deal, but they are getting him for 7 more years instead. Taking that into consideration I can see why this deal isn't being received with open arms.
  2. C'mon Jacko. There are plenty of teams that would be interested in Howard. Both NY teams. NYM would probably love to steal Howard from Philly. I'm sure they can find another position for Ike And I wouldn't put it past the Yankees to try and bring him in as a DH. The video game numbers that Howard would put up in Coors East would be hilarious. So don't think they wouldn't be tempted. I'm sure the Red Sox would have been sniffing around. LH power is hard to come by. If St. Louis for some reason had to replace Pujols, Howard would easily be #1 on their list. And that's just some from the annual contenders. You always have to worry about the GM who is desperate to save his job. You never know what kind of crazy ass deal they may have offered. I think you get my point though. Philly would have had plenty of stiff competition.
  3. I think Pujols was getting 27-30M AAV regardless.
  4. It seems about right. But did they really need to extend him now? Pretty much guarantee's Werth hits the market IMO.
  5. http://www.csnphilly.com/04/26/10/Phillies-Sign-Howard-to-125-Million-Exte/landing.html?blockID=223476&feedID=704
  6. Any chance the Pats and G-men work out something for Osi? He does appear to be a little more expendable after the draft. Just a thought.
  7. I think Lee is the more likely option.
  8. ST uniform...? FML I'm fine with the Red Jersey's and "Sox" Cap. I'm mean they wear it like once a couple weeks or something. I really don't get why people get so worked up over them. It's just an alternate revenue stream for your ball club. Deal.
  9. Well he bests Exposito in just about every offensive category. And throws out about 15% more base runners. Not to mention he is probably ready now. And Exposito is not.
  10. With Mauer signing long term, I would think the Twin would be dangling Ramos as trade bait. He looks to be legit and is just about as blocked in as it gets. The price may be steep, but could really pay off. I'm betting Bard would be a very tempting return for Minny. I would hate to see Bard leave though. But for a starting catcher of Ramos quality would be hard to argue against.
  11. I'd like to see what Wagner can do personally.
  12. I like the Pats 2nd round picks a lot. Good quality picks IMO. If they can jump up and grab Griffin I think it would be a very successful draft.
  13. Classic
  14. I agree. I think Lester is just a slow start. Nothing major I don't believe.
  15. They act like Wakefield will never get a start again. I would wager he will get at least 10 more starts this season.
  16. It seems the most logical move. Dice-K needs to start and show he can produce. Either to cement his spot in the rotation or build his value enough to receive an adequate return in a trade.
  17. a700 is right, Buchholz is out of options. There is 0% chance he get's sent to the minors because he would have to clear waivers. And if he is put on waivers he will last all of about 5 seconds. Maybe longer if the GM who has first crack at him passes out from lack of blood flow due to the ragging bonner he would get upon seeing Buchholz's name on the waiver wire.
  18. I don't care for the pick that much. But there are a lot of talented players such as Kindle, Dunlap, Griffin are still available.
  19. The Mets are too dumb to realize they need to be sellers. They will probably be adding players at the TDL, not sending them packing.
  20. I'm just saying I think they would probably give him a shot before going and getting Dye or something like that.
  21. But I thought in that meeting it came up that no matter what the Sox offered that day, the Yankees would be getting a call to counter? I could be wrong though. But I seem to remember reading something like that. Regardless it sucks and will continue to suck until the the Sox acquire a big time bat. Then all the "Tex" crap will probably fall by the way side.
  22. Wow this went from kidney stones to abdominal tear? Hermida should be getting the chance to prove himself. I think you give him the playing time and see what happens in the next 6 weeks.
  23. I'm not worried about this. Like it was said earlier, "everyone" is under performing at the moment. And unless everyone has a sub career season, it is reasonable to assume the Sox will have a streak were they out perform career averages. That's why I always say wait the first couple months and then see were they are at. It's why I never get too wound up or overly confident when the Yankees play like s*** for the first month or so(which has happened a few times over recent years, not always), only to be right back in the race by mid June and the bad start being a complete after thought. So everyone just needs to chill and let things settle and gel. If things haven't changed by mid June then yes obviously they should be considering changes.
