  2. As far as the "Tek back up" discussion goes I think Varitek will perform nicely as a back up. But I'm going to pine for Max Ramirez/future C until they get one regardless of what Tek does. So I guess I agree with both camps on that discussion
  3. Nice one. I got racked over the coals for drafting him in our "anti-fantasy league". It's looking like a really solid pick now.
  4. Did I miss something? Did he manage to get himself banned?
  5. Ya I think Arod is eligable to have a "breakout" year. I mean if he put up a season that stood out from the rest of his previous seasons, I guess you could consider that a breakout year. Bard is an interesting pick. I was going back and forth between him and Lester for my pick. Price is a nice candidate. He definitely has the tools to get him into that elite group.
  6. We can all hope right?
  7. Who do you think is going to have that "breakout" season this year? It can be a Red Sox player, or from another team if you like. Mine is Jon Lester. I know he has had two solid seasons already. But I believe he assumes the Sox "Ace" role and runs with it. With Beckett and Lackey pushing him, I think he will be a top contender for the AL Cy Young award at the end of the season. And establish himself amongst the elite SP in baseball. 2010 line: (prediction) 35 starts, 20-5 W-L Record, 2.95 ERA 220K's 65 BB 215 IP
  8. I could deal with Martinez catching a hundred games and splitting 50 at 1B/DH year in and year out. Especially if Wagner/Exposito show any promise at the ML level. It be a great way to break them in. I don't care how much money they have to spend to sign him. I am more concerned with the years. If they can get him on a 3 yr+ 1 option, or a 4 yr deal I think they should do it.
  9. I always thought Wang if healthy would be a very good NL SP. The Nationals really should have gotten a option year though. I think next season he could be really good. This year he could be decent. But guys usually are better the 2nd season back from any kind of surgery.
  10. Not trying to belittle your post or anything. It seems fair IMO. I just really laughed hard when I read that part.
  11. I pitcher doesn't need to be cut and have 0 percent body fat. It's not good for your stamina. Having some fat reserves(in a healthy way, not Curt Schilling fat reserves) should help him across a full season of pitching. Besides a lot of the guys lose 10+ pounds during the course of the season anyways.
  12. I don't see it happening unless Lowell is traded or on the DL. If that is the case Branyan would not be a bad bat to come off the bench, or insurance for Beltre/Ortiz(more so for Ortiz IMO).
  13. I think he still worth having around even if he is 1B/DHing.
  14. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view.bg?&articleid=1232955 Me likes to hear this Hopefully the FO feels the same way. I think a 4 year deal with maybe an option would be enough for him to re-up with the team.
  15. I thought they put there share up awhile ago. But if you sell Talksox and we all pool our money together, we should only have to get a 90.9M dollar loan. I'm in!
  16. I think the biggest concerns are Ortiz and the 5 SP health(Which IMO is a concern every season). The Sox have a very talented group, but we all know it's rare for a team to go wire to wire with the same starting 5.
  17. I think Jacko's assessment of the two players is fair.
  18. The Big Hurt was is premier player right in my hay day of baseball. Seeing a prominent player from my youth retire makes me feel old... But he provided many good memory's, so thanks Frank, you had a great career. I think he may be a first ballot HOF, but with the voters you never know. Speaking of childhood icons, glad to see Griffey playing another year. Not sure how I'll react to my childhood favorite player will be. Maybe a mid life crisis will ensue LOL
  19. Couldn't agree more mate
  20. It so worth it
