    Just heard about it on "the Herd". Condolences to his family and all fans of the Yankees. It's the official end of an era, one that was good to the Yankee fans.

    They're not even 5 games back. Let's wait and see what happens over the next couple weeks. I would however be on the phone finding out who to call if they did really fall back and decided to be sellers.

    s*** happens. I don't care who you are and how good of a GM your are. You don't and can't plan for 1/3 of your opening day roster to be on the DL at the same time. So when it does happen, Eric Patterson winds up starting in CF. And who's to say TB or NY doesn't hit a bump in the road? Still a whole lot of games left. Relax, take off the life preserver and stow it back in it's place. it's not over yet

    What about Leo Nunez of the Marlins? He's making 2M this season and is arb. eligible next year and due a hefty pay raise. I think he is just the kind of hard late inning thrower this team needs.     I'm really on the fence about Lebron. I really thought for sure he was staying. But now some things aren't adding up for me. The hour long news special on ESPN? Like it was said before, does he really need an hour to say I'm staying? It would seem it would more likely be an hour of him explaining why he chose to leave his hometown and how hard it was to make that choice. Also lebron knows if he jumps ship and heads out of town his image is going to be a little dinged. This is why I believe he has donated all the proceeds from this thing on ESPN to the Boys and Girls club of America, http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/basketball/nba/07/06/lebron.tv.special.ap/index.html. This will help soften the blow I have no clue really, in the end it should be interesting and I hope they show it here.

    Sounds promising. They need to ease him back in though. Are they allowed to wear kevlar on the field?

    I think he is just what that staff needs. They need a veteran leader to couple with Strasburg. You put those two at the top of your rotation and all the sudden DC becomes a much more desirable destination for other talent. And with their previously mentioned deep pockets, this team could be a contender next year. Not saying it's for sure, just something I see as possibly playing out.

    I would say Tex seems to be finding it recently. He seems to be heating up. While Arod has looked feeble at the dish as of late.

    Pretty sure they offered Tex 20M a year a couple offseason's ago. I think you will be surprised how deep the Nats pockets are.

    Twins make the most sense. A package centered around Ramos for a team lacking a catcher of the future is extremely attractive deal. I would expect Ramos +1 low level high ceiling developmental prospect to seal the deal. Then depending on who Lee signs with this offseason, they should collect a couple picks for him. Speaking of Lee and who he signs with next year. I know this maybe out of place, but lately I've been trying to consider a destination for Lee outside of NY(which from what i read 90% of people think that's where he is headed). So I'm calling it now. Lee will be a Washington National next season. They have been throwing money around the last couple season with no takers. They have big money to offer and need a running mate for Strasburg. It makes a lot of sense all the way around. Lee going to Washington gives them instant credibility.

    Not exactly cream of the crop guys, but Farnsworth has been effective this season. Uehara in a SSS has been effective as well. I guess if the price was right they could be decent acquisitions. Speaking of Baltimore, anyone think the Sox should look in on Gutherie or Millwood? Dice-K can't be counted on, Beckett is is on his way back but not there yet, Buchholz is banged up. I'm not sure what their cost would be, but I doubt it would be anything near what Lee would cost to bring in. Just kicking around some ideas.

    Doubt it cost any prospects. I'd rather have him then Cash. Gives the team a back up signed at a decent amount going into next season too.

    Here's one I haven't seen. Matt Kemp. He has worlds of talent but seems to be having "issues" in LA. He is looking more and more like the guy who needs a "change of scenery". Last season I would have called it a "pipedream". This season it seems a bit more obtainable if even only by a small margin. Thoughts?

    This is an unreal run of injuries. But if the Sox can grind out then next 6-8 weeks and manage to stay slightly above .500, they should be fine, assuming everyone comes back from injury.

    I read that the Phillies are gauging interest in Jayson Werth. With Lowell having no place to play and Philly down a couple IF's, one of which is their everyday 3B, what are the chances the Sox can package Lowell with a prospect for Werth and stabilize the OF for the remainder of the season?

    I could see interest at some level from Detroit, LAA, Texas, Philly, St. Louis, and Colorado.
