  1. I agree. I am not sure of the extent though. I guess we can start at who the Sox will for sure have on the 2011 Red Sox(and yes I know that anyone can get traded, these are just the most likely to not). Beckett, Lackey, Lester, Buchholz, Dice-K(No trade clause), Youk, Pedroia,Salty and Bard. I think it's safe to say that save Dice-K, all will be part of the 2011 Red Sox. Now Jacoby, Drew, Papi, and Papelbon fall into the "probably be on the Sox in 2011 group". But Papis' option may not get picked up, and the other 3 are conceivably trade candidates. Albeit the returns on any of them would have to be worth it to the organization to do so.
  2. There be absolutely no point in that at this point in the season. The FO would just look like *******s. It's not a huge deal for him to ride out the last 3 weeks of the season.
  3. Not surprising. Thanks for everything Mike!
  4. I'm not against them bringing Ortiz back. But I am probably more for them getting Dunn. Nobody wanted Dunn a couple years ago because his defense was so bad. And he was marketing himself as a 1B. Now he's open to DHing. The Red Sox biggest competition will probably be the White Sox.
  5. LOL well that def could be the reasoning behind the feeling A little high on AAV, but nothing outrageous. I like the deal. Pretty much gets the Pats the rest of Brady's prime years.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or both retire at the end of their deals. Although I have always had a feeling Brady would wind up a 49er at some point in his career. Not sure why though lol
  7. Proud new member
  8. If they do come to terms it will probably be for 3 years with an option or maybe even 4 guaranteed. Which really will be a discount, because I am sure there are teams ut there that will offer him 5 years.
  9. With power numbers dropping off, speed will be very important in this new era of baseball. So I wouldn't jsut toss it aside as an after thought. I'd be fine with Cameron being the 4th OF. Kalish can polish up in AAA and be 1st in line if someone goes down.
  10. I really hope he was being sarcastic as well
  11. Crawford and Ellsbury would drive opposing pitchers nuts on the base paths. Look forward to 2012 and add Kalish to that OF and they could turn games into track meets
  12. Not saying your wrong, but that list is suspect and doesn't defend your position as much as you probably were hoping. McCarver is babbling baboon. Buck knows his stuff. Morgan is another mouth breather. Berman is really a football guy. Rome likes to stir the pot. John Rocker? And the last I'm unfamiliar with.
  13. Co-signed. Glad to see a couple of the elder statesmen on this board hash things out. Although I will admit, it did make for an interesting read
  14. Yes not living in the "belly of the beast" has it's advantages I still hate the thought of the Yankees winning again. But if it "forces the FO hand" so to speak, then so be it. As hard as that is to say. Of course thinking of the Sox possibly blocking a Yankee 3-peat be nice
  15. Hoyer has made a couple decent trades and a couple minimal FA signings. I don't believe he had anything to do with drafting and developing most if not all of the home grown talent that is currently playing for the Padres. That credit goes to the previous regime. Not saying Hoyer hasn't helped, but it's not like he built that roster from the ground up. Other then that, I agree with you guys. We might have to deal with the Yankees winning again to spur the Sox into action. I think i can deal though. Crawford would be a great pick up. Weakens the Rays(although Jennings looks to be a good replacement) and strengthens the Sox. He would be great to add to the top of the lineup. At first I didn't like the idea of Kalish being the 4th OF. But he would get a good amount of AB's. And I think he replaces JD after next season.
  16. Paps has been maddening to watch at times this year. And I have been tooting the "trade Paps horn" for awhile now. But I don't want them to trade him for a bucket of balls. If there is no good deal out there then keep him. I wouldn't be shocked to see him have a bounce back year. Especially since it will be his walk year. What is everyone's opinion on Paps trade value this off season?
  17. Maybe the Sox allocated Buchholz some post season innings they don't think he is going to get now. And this will help him reach the innings total they were hoping he progress to this season. Just a possibility.
  18. I'm iffy on this.
  19. They will all get in eventually. Younger writers will eventually out number the old war birds who are keeping these guys out. And really they all should get in. And if you want to slap asterisk's by players name's, then you can start with ALL player's that played and accumulated stats previous to the arrival of Jackie Robinson. On the thread topic. It's nice he can admit he was wrong. Doesn't change what happened and what it caused me to feel at the time. But it's nice to see him take responsibility. And with that what are the odds he is in Boston next year? Sox need a RHH. He would probably come on a 1 year incentive laden deal.He could replace Ortiz as a cheaper option DH maybe. Not saying it's plan A, but if the Sox lose out on the upper tier FA and lose a couple of their own they will be looking for a good bat. Besides, if the Sox can't make big moves and need to wait until Prince, Agon or Pujols hit the open market to make a big move, they will need another "bridge" type year for the offense. And Manny would fit well into that mold. Just saying.
