  1. Way to provoke your inner Jacko. Reasonably it's not a major injury and very easily fixed. Losing some weight probably wouldn't hurt. And I would imagine the Yankees will take this opportunity to push him to lose some weight.
  2. Sorry I was thinking you were part of the anti-Grienke faction. My mistake
  3. I knew you'd sway once I put it as a move that would negate a move by the Yankee's;) I don't doubt for a second Ortiz wants to be in Boston next year. But I don't know how he will feel after 1 of 3 likely scenarios happens, 1. The Sox pick up his option. He could be happy he's getting 12.5M or be pissed that they will only commit one year 2. The Sox decline his option and offer him something like 2 years 18M. Which is market value for a DH only player with possible platoon issues. 2. The Sox offer 1 year at a discounted rate and say take the hometown discount or go test the FA waters.
  4. I still think he's worth a shot. And I don't believe the Sox would be giving up an top prospects to get him either. A couple low to mid level guys and taking on all the $ is something the Marlins will consider.
  5. I mentioned his name earlier in the season as a guy the Red Sox needed to keep tabs on. He had a putrid August and lost the closers spot. He then rebounded to have a good September. He is exactly the kind of young live arm that is right about at the point of getting too expensive for some teams like the Marlins. The Sox need to make a play for this guy. He could be really good for the 7th inning duties. And shouldn't cost a kings ransom in prospects.
  6. It appears last night at almost the time you made your post the Mets went with Alderson, So Grienke advantage still in play
  7. That job is Alderson's(sp)? unless he turns it down IMO. Both Wilpons have are said to be saying yes to him, and when it comes to the Mets that's usually enough. And of course Papi is going to say he is coming back next year at a Celtics game. He's no an idiot. Let's see how willing he is to stay if they Sox decline his option and offer him a 1 or 2 year deal at a discounted rate.
  8. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/baseball/mlb/10/26/union.expanding.playoffs.ap/index.html?eref=sihp Players union says the be ok with expansion in 2 years.
  9. LOL I really hope she has as much of say in where Lee plays as Tex's wife did for him
  10. I like it. I don't know how they lay off is going to effect the team that winds up #1. It has to be a 3 game series. 1 game is ridiculous and 5 is too long for the other team to be off. Also it should be played in 3 consecutive days.
  11. With all the veterans on the staff I think Grienke would blend in nicely and not be overwhelmed by expectations. He's a FA after 2 years, so if worse come to worse they can let him walk. If he pitches well, then there is always the chance of an extension down the road. I also think it's the type of move that really limits an advantage gained by NYY if they land Lee. A rotation of Lester, Buchholz. Grienke, Beckett and Lackey trumps anything league wide and by a lot. That kind of move put them as one of the heavy favorites for next season and that's with out any of the offensive ?'s answered. I still think Beltre is gone and Youk is moving to 3B. 1B/DH/C is where the off season could go in so many different directions that we are going to have to wait for at least one domino to drop before we have any idea of the direction they are trying to go in. I don't believe they are going to want to clog 1B long term this off season. I really believe they have full intention of signing Agon next off season. I believe he is target A.Fielder I think is choice B and really a fall back option in their eyes. He has the most ?'s. If some how Pujols is a FA well then that changes just about everything. As far as 2011 goes, 1B, DH, C could be filled with any combo of the following, Dunn/Papi/Konerko/Pena/Salty/FA or traded for C. The OF will get Werth or Crawford. Maybe a trade candidate we aren't considering. Or they could even try and go with the original OF from this season. Maybe Kalish gets in a year early. This will also depend on how much they spend on the IF. Point is, if they add Grienke they probably will only need league average offense to compete next year. It could really be a big move.
  12. Not a shocker. May be they really are on a certain budget.
  13. Cafardo on the Globe, http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/articles/2010/10/24/with_right_pitch_greinke_could_be_pried_from_kc/?page=4
  14. I also saw Orel Hershiser's name in the same article being mentioned as a possible PC replacement for Farell. The other name mentioned I like was Rick Peterson.
  15. I wonder if they will really try and get him? Do they move the trade chips for Grienke and wait on Agon another season?
  16. So what do the Yankees do with Jeter? You know he's getting a 2-3 year deal . Do they leave him at SS and just suffer through it? It doesn't seem like they can transition him to OF right now. His bat doesn't translate good for a COF. And he probably lacks the speed now to play CF. He can't clog up the DH spot. they need that for other players and again his bat doesn't translate well for a DH. The Yankees could really be shooting themselves in the foot if they ink Jeter long term. If Jeter was on any other team he would be going year to year and probably be moving to 2B. The most outrageous suggestion I have read came from SI this morning, I don't know which columnist put it up but I want what some of he's smoking. And Jeter's agent better be trying to gt some and put it in Cashman's brownies. In my dream of dreams only would the Yankees be stupid enough to give out that deal to Jeter. That's all the Yankees need is another 35+ year old making 20M+ a season
  17. Lee staying in Texas would be best case scenario for Red Sox fans. I am really pulling for them to up the ante and ink him. I think if they offer 5 years 25M per, he takes it to stay there. I'd be interested to see what kind of fall back plan the Yankees would have. Like example said, there really isn't an obvious choice. I guess they could go for an innings eater like Millwood and hope either Hughes or Burnett can step up and be a serviceable #2. And then look again next off season. And even then there isn't anything to be too hopeful about. The Yanks not getting Lee could set them back a lot and unless they trade for a SP it doesn't seem like signing a check to someone is going to help them. I wonder if the Yanks go crazy on offense if the miss out on Lee to compensate? Sign Dunn to DH and go get one of the OF bats that are available or something like that.
  18. I've read a couple places that CWS might non tender Jenks. Anyone think he would be a set up candidate next season?
  19. The ratings will be mediocre for a Giants/Rangers WS. Baseball fans will enjoy it. But they won't draw int he fringe crowds like the Yankees and other big markets do. For the parity of baseball this could end up being good. For a ratings/marketing standpoint, Bud Selig/MLB in general are probably sweating bullets.
  20. High Five, Low Five, Sideways Five!!
