  1. Yup that's about it right there
  2. I think Benoit is a possibility on a 1 or 2 year deal. Fuentes possibly. The only way I see them getting Downs is if they sign a higher FA first and thus screw Toronto again out of a 1st round pick. I don't see the Sox giving any relievers 3 year deals.
  3. Schilling is actually a very interesting option considering all the intangibles.. I agree with Dipre though, they would have to limit his air time. And I hope he would use his blog sparingly. Congrats to Farrell BTW
  4. Here's a trade scenario for everyone to kick around, SD gets Grienke Boston gets Agon KC get's some assortment of prospects Yes there could very well be other moving parts in a deal such as this(Ellsbury for example, and I'm sure there would be $ going somewhere). But as a base package idea what does everyone think?
  5. The Impact will probably be fairly significant IMO. Fenway will probably become a HR ballpark instead of a doubles ballpark. I think it will be really interesting. I guess this is the meet in the middle scenario between the fans that want to keep Fenway and the fans that wouldn't mind a new stadium? I am certain the effects non effects will make for great debate on the site
  6. I feel almost the exact same way. The only thing that puts me off on Lee is the age. That deal is going to look sketchy by the end of it. a700, you don't like any kind of change The Sox have a LHH heavy lineup. And any power bat they have in the minors or have talked about acquiring is LH(Prince, Agon). I can't see how this hurts them really. I like it. I've always felt the RF fence(mid left, not down the line) was too far back and really killed LHH's.
  7. I think Texas has a better shot at signing him then the Red Sox do. If the Sox get an impact pitcher I think it will be through trade. As far as I'm concerned Lee is a Ranger or Yankees next year. With the Nationals being a dark horse contender.
  8. I meant someone league average at least.
  9. The Sox need to add offense. I believe the pitching rotation is strong enough to still contend with the Yankees regardless if Lee is in the rotation or not. The Yankees may have more "star" power, but still allowed the Red Sox AAAA team to stay within striking distance up until the last week of the season. I think Lee is an unlikely option. I think the Red Sox will be in on him to drive up the price on Lee for the Yankees. That is all.
  10. I don't want to trade Kalish either. But I did say they could supplement him with 2 out of th 4 other choices. And Yes the Sox have a lot of talent 1-3 years away. The exact type of talent KC is going to want. They don't want ML ready players from what I have read. They want players to match with their own up and coming farm talent that is also 1-3 years away. I think the Sox have plenty of that. Lee is getting 20M per annually. I don't even think it's debatable at this point. I think Texas with it's new ownership is going to really go hard and try to bring Lee back. I think they have a fair shot. But if Lee hits the open market there is no other team out there that will trump what the Yankees will do to over pay to secure him. The Yankees will 100% offer him the most $. Whether he he takes it or not is the only thing I believe to be debatable. As far as Agon goes. I'm gad talks are reopened, but I still don't see SD trading him until the TDL of next season. I would think SD would try and make another run next season, unless they believe this was a fluke season and they are still a couple years away. Even then i don't expect a deal to be struck early in the offseason if it came to it. SD is probably going to want to keep him around to sell season tickets. Unless they think this years run will bring in enough of a crowd without AG. But looking around I keep seeing a couple of th same names getting mentioned in possible AG deals. Ellsbury and Lowrie seem to be popping up th most. I think Lowrie raised his stock this year and could very well be part of the package. Ellsbury was hurt, but Hoyer would know the type of player he's getting. I think you add Doubront to that and one of the 1B prospects and that's a solid deal that Hoyer is going t have to really think about. From a Sox end it wouldn't hurt too much. They would need a leadoff hitter. Crawford is on the market and a reasonable replacement. But he has said he doesn't want to be the LO guy trying to steal 70 bases a season. But I'm sure the Sox could find someone to lead off.
  11. It's not going to be cheap. But I believe the Sox have a lot of what KC wants. Talent that is 1-3 years away from contributing at the MLB level. That is the time frame they are looking at for much of their own top prospects to be in KC. That considered the deal IMO would be something like this, Kelly has to be part of the package, we might as well get over that now. After that it get's a little tricky. KC's top 20 has a couple 1B at the top. The 3B of the future. A lot of RHP. And a few OF's towards the back end. Their only catching prospect in the top 20 is at #17 and isn't considered to be anywhere close at this point. So we can take out 1B and 3B prospects. With the amount of pitching KC has the Sox might be able to get away with just one more higher upside pitcher in the deal. So I'll concentrate elsewhere for now. I think a C prospect could have a lot of weight in the deal. Now the Sox have talent at C. The problem for us and the Sox was that it wasn't ready to take over now. KC won't have that problem. So really I think you give them their choice of Catching prospect. Moving on. I'm sure they are going to want a top OF talent. This probably means Kalish, Reddick, Fuentes and Lin. If it's Kalish it's probably only him. they might be able to get 2 out of 3 for the other group. Kelly+ (Bowden, Pimentel, Doubront, )+ Kalish(or 2/3 of Reddick, Lavernway, Lin, Fuentes) Catcher+ (the unknown low level guy that always ends up in a deal like this) I think that is a solid starting point. It has risk and is a steep price yes, but the amount of interest will more then likely drive the price that high.
  12. Yes it's probably going to be fairly expensive prospect wise. Good thing is though that the Royals are going to want talent that is a couple years away. And the Sox have plenty of that. Lester Buchholz Grienke Beckett Lackey Drool...
  13. If the Sox move Dice-K, I would hope they would attempt to land Grienke.
  14. I read somewhere Prince has already turned down a 5 year 100M offer from the Brewers. I think it's safe to say it's going to take more the Howard's deal to get him inked. I think all of them will get 20-25M per for 5+ years. The only player I could see breaking 25M is Pujols.
  15. I wonder how much revenue due to increased ticket sales would bring in for an organization that typically doesn't sell out every night. I would have to imagine any team bringing in Pujols could expect a fairly packed house every night at home. I think a case could be made for a tam like KC to ante up and bring a player like AP in. I mean he's a home town guy. He instantly legitimizes your franchise. FA now won't look at KC as being exiled. Instead getting to play with the greatest player in the league. Not saying it's likely. Just we may see some surprises as to who would offer AP a deal. I think it would be awesome to see him become a FA. Well as long as the Yanks don't sign him
  16. Cheers mate
  17. Really a700? Thanks for being a twat on this one. If you knew anything at all about this you would understand that a winning Liverpool FC would probably net Henry and company more $ then the Red Sox could probably ever do. Liverpool FC is a top INTERNATIONAL brand. If you weren't such a doomsday-ist you would have probably realized this could expand the resources the Red Sox have at their command. For all the Liverpool FC fans please ignore a700. He is the resident "Scrooge" when it comes to this sort of stuff.
  18. I believe he meant drop everything as in the FO total focus would be on the possibility of obtaining Pujols for a measurable duration of time and nothing else, like other FA negotiations, ongoing trade talk. I don't think he meant they can just drop all their commitments financially and pursue Pujols.
  19. Posada is a fair comparison. Yes the contract is probably inflated because of the "Yankee" factor. But with the amount of interest Martinez should garner it should push the deal right up there. I don't know what it is but I just get the feeling some GM is going to offer 5 years and The Sox won't match. I believe ideally they want a 3 year deal, but will probably go to 4. 5 is very iffy IMO. I'm sure Martinez agency was disappointed when Omar got the Axe in Queens. They were almost guaranteed a 5 year offer from him
  20. Couple things from Cafardo,
