What I said is that with Hanley instead of Beckett and Lowell, you may have won one championship anyways. You wouldn't have made the Lugo deal, who knows who you might have gotten in 2007. Fine, Beckett is a top of the rotation starter, an ace. Hanley is one of the top 5 players in the game. I don't think Beckett is. Also, not saying it was a bad deal, but it wasn't a good one. It was a deal that really helped both teams. Would the Red Sox have been better off without making the deal? No one can say for sure, and a strong argument can be made both ways.
Trading is not a strong point of this regime. Remember Gagne? Getting V-Mart was in my opinion not the best move, getting Lee would have been. The strength of this FO is it's ability to sign and develop their own players. That's all I said.
