  1. Ok, and they are right 100% of the time? See, if anyone can't make a point without turning to fundamentally flawed equations, that's their problem. Explain to me why teams have scouts, if the numbers are all you need. Let me give you an example of how ridiculous you guys sound. Chris Coghlan is better than Ryan Braun. Why? Coughlan his .321, and Braun hit .320. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. He's better. Who cares if you watch the gamezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz? He's better. Look at the batting averages! This is where we are in defensive matrices. We aren't even advanced to the point of batting averages. Today, we have OPS, OPS+, WAR, and so on and so on. Our knowledge and understanding of the game has increased dramatically. In the 60s and 70s, teams used batting average almost exclusively to determine a player's value, with little or no value given to OBP. The sheep who are braying for UZR will be eventually be shown to have been barking up the wrong tree. Why? An inability to QUESTION what you read, and to blindly follow without circumspection.
  2. No, I had fun with it. I personally would like to see the DH removed entirely.
  3. I think Scherzer is as good as Jackson, and the other guy is pretty good too. AJ could be something decent. Arizona, I don't understand, really, unless they think Scherzer's arm will fall off. Edwin will do well in the NL. What I don't understand is the Tigers motivation. Why are they blowing up their team when they finished out of the playoffs by losing a one game playoff?
  4. I deride people because of their lack of desire to THINK for themselves. Very few people ask themselves "Does this make sense?" If so, great? If not, why? You've been on this board longer than I have, how many times do people spout numbers without understanding them. I rest my case. On a civil note, you choose to take a formula that is a work in progress. I don't. Eventually, I will jump on board when it becomes more of a finished product. This is where we differ, and I respect you for it, because you are one of the only ones here who accept a formulas limitation. On an unrelated topic, I got a serious kick out of you believing that I didn't know there was not DH in the NL. Too funny. As for the off-season thread...I think the mystery team for Bradley is the Yankees, dangling Cabrera. What do you think? Discuss.
  5. He is due for a massive regression offensively. I do hate him, though. I'm also highly pissed it looks like the Yankees won't bring back Molina. Maybe it's not my most objective opinion. The happiest day of my Yankee tenure [not counting championships] will be the day after the last out of the 2011 World Series. Then Posada and his albatross contract is gone, and hopefully, so is he. On another note... The Cubs seem close to dealing Bradley. You know what? I wouldn't be surprised if it was the Yankees. A Melky for Bradley deal, with the Cubs eating the most [if not all] of his money, makes sense on both sides, if you ask me.
  6. This was f***ing hysterical. Way to go Emmz.
  7. I don't drink. I never said that 4 or 5 games of watching a player [opposing teams] a year is all that conclusive, especially when it comes to pitching and hitting. However, when it comes to fielding, and considering how fielding metrics are much less advanced than hitting or pitching, and how inaccurate they've been as far as I've seen, of course I would. It's better than not thinking for yourself and accepting everything without question or reservation. Exactly when have I been caught believing everything I read? When you have seen me defend a statistic so vehemently that it is questionable? EDIT: I don't drink means I have on average a beer or two a month. Been that way for close to 1o years.
  8. The Yankees will not go with Miranda as DH. I am convinced that Matsui will be back. You put Posada behind Arod, and he may break the record for intentional walks for the AL.
  9. Well..they did gain a lot of controllable years...22 to be exact.
  10. We need to keep one spot open for the Bruney deal, so it's only two. You know what? I'd like to see the Yankees bring back Shelley Duncan to platoon with Granderson.
  11. Got it..the correct syntax is [youtube=Title]youtube code after the =[/ youtube]. Without the space. Thank you.
  12. Hey ORS....do DHs have good UZRs? ROFLMAO!
  13. This deal looks better and better every time I look at it. With CC, AJ, Pettitte, Joba, Hughes, there was no room for Kennedy. Coke is a mediocre reliever. Austin Jackson is a hyped up prospect who may or not be the real deal. In return, the Yankees got a 30 homerun hitter who is entering his prime. There is nothing not to like about this deal from a Yankee fan's standpoint. Not to mention, the salary for Granderson is under $6 million a year. This puts the Yankees in a very strong position. They can keep Melky and sign Matsui to play DH. They can trade Melky and sign Damon. This deal pretty much guarantees that one of Damon or Matsui is gone. The question is...which one?
  14. :harhar: Leave it to ORS to actually believe it. What a tool. I wanted to keep it going for a while until I got a senior member of the board. I watch the games, ORS...and I understood it better at 14 than you do today. Moron.
  15. I looked up the Yankees. UZR was basically useless for my team. It was no more accurate than a flip of the coin would have been. I will look into RF/G, because that seemed to jive with my opinions of the players. So you're saying the stat is only good for OFers? LOL! "Hey guys...I developed this cool formula for valuing defense!" "Great! What is it? How does it work?" "Well..it's only good for OFers..and it doesn't work that well on it's own, you have to use it with RF/G..and it shows incredible variance from year to year! It's still a formula though!" "Yay...send it to Dipre!" End of story. Yankees get Granderson. Good deal for the Yankees.
  16. At best, Jackson would turn into Granderson. Coke is a spare part. So is Kennedy. The Yankees improve their defense significantly with Granderson over Damon, and get overall similar production, if not more. They get younger and more athletic, and cut money off of payroll. Dipre, I was looking at RngR. Fine, I'll buy RF/G. That's fine with me, since I saw Tex had good numbers there. UZR is completely useless though. Last I looked...that's what you quoted, right? Bingo.
