  1. Why is anyone a staunch supporter of any member of any FO. You're as good as your last deal, or at the very best, the last two seasons. That's it. Look, I'll toot his horn if he signs CC, AJ and Tex/Manny. I'll kill him when, well...basically he does his job as he's done over the last 3 years. I grade him on his current performance, which, IMO is s*****. Actually, his entire career is s*****. However, why not kill him when he makes a mistake, and commend him when he makes a good move? I just don't get it. A monkey could have done as good a job as he did. He's simply random. One good move, one asinine move. One step forward, two steps back. That's been this guy's career, and a lot of people buy into it for no reason whatsoever.
  2. Well...if I didn't set AP for two weeks, and considering I drafted Santana Moss thinking it was Randy Moss...I think I did well for my first try at this. I win...I'm in. I don't have to scoreboard watch, so I'm pretty psyched.
  3. What it comes down to is that Cashman is an idiot. I'm not sure if it is based on six months or one year, ORS. I know players get paychecks all year round, but I'm not sure how the break down is created. The thinking is this...if he accepts, the Yankees can tell him that they may cut him in Spring Training. Now...who's going to give a player a big contract in the spring? The big money yeams, the Yanks, Sox, Cubs, Mets, etc., will go into spring training set. So...does he want to chance it that a team will give him a 3 year, 36 mil contract in April? Pettitte, I understand. Not offering Abreu? Foolish. Nady over Abreu? On what planet? Planet Cashman. Not logical baseball sense.
  4. ********. You can't have it both ways. It was Cashman's call NOT to trade for Santana. It was his call to trade for Nady & Marte. It was his draft choices this year. It was his deal for Swisher. Good or bad it is his show. What I don't understand is that even if they did accept arbitration, the contracts are NOT GUARANTEED. The most they would owe them is termination pay which would be 30 or 45 days depending on the situation. Why not offer arbitration and threaten to release them with termination pay if they accept? The loss of draft picks WEAKENS their market therefore lowering their price on the market. Your defense of the worst GM in our lifetime shows ZERO baseball intelligence. ZERO.

Typical Western attittude. I can't say I completely understand their thinking as I am not an Asian, but I got a glimpse of it when I lived there. What can they do? Many things. Go after the Red Sox amateur picks. Think a player agent wouldn't love to tell Epstein "Well, we have an offer from a Japanese team for your pick...". Steer their players to other teams. Drop hints to other teams who are offering bids in the posting process. I'm not saying this can happen. However, I'd be a little surprised if the Red Sox didn't face future difficulties. Also...Mr. Straw...what does Dice-K have to do with this? Absolutely nothing.

Except that for once, I support Cashman's move. This move will end up hurting the Red Sox big-time IMO. The unwritten agreement between the two leagues has been broken by the Red Sox. They had a gentlemen's agreement, for lack of a better word, to not go after each other's country's amateur players. The Japanese culture is very big on honor. Expect some repurcussions from this. Don't be surprised at this if it happens.
  7. If I make the playoffs...you guys are in trouble. I AM THE TEAM NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY!!!
  8. I thought I had already started a similar thread...LOL!
  9. I MADE ANOTHER TRADE!
  10. Did I destroy you twice? Am I your daddy? You do know I 've never played this before, don't you?
  11. Except that a more realistic expectation is that the Yankees will only spend about 60 mil. Not a bad plan, but I would switch Sheets and Pettitte. I like his stuff so much more...and Pettitte is about done.
  12. Yes and no. Yes that they have a significant advantage in current payrolls. No in the fact that the Red Sox choose not to spend more than they do. It's their business model...and last I checked, no team has to follow another's business model. Absolutely. I think you have the Yankees far and away above everyone. Then you have the Red Sox. Followed relatively closely by the Mets, Dodgers, then Cubs. Then...you have everyone else. This if from Forbes Magazine, team valuations. Yankees: 1.3 Billion Mets: 824 Million Red Sox: 816 Million Dodgers: 694 Million Cubs: 642 Million Angels: 500 Million So...what do you see there? I am going to make an assumption due to the Red Sox stellar play and a World Series victory in 2007, they have probably leapfrogged the Mets. No matter. I will use the figures listed. The Yankees, when dividing their net worth by the Red Sox net worth you get a value of 1.59. That means in net worth, the Yankees are worth 1.59 times more than the Red Sox. Now...lets compare the Red Sox and the Angels. When doing the same calculation...the Red Sox are worth 1.62 times the Angels. So...do the Yankees have a significant advantage over everyone? Yes. In fact, consider yourselves lucky the Yankees don't spend even MORE than they do. This doesn't even take into account the YES network, which is actually valued to be worth MORE than the Yankees. Lets look at this quote, boys and girls. Wow...look at that. There is a bunching up of 8 teams, after a large difference between the Yankees and the 2nd highest payroll. Does that...does that look like...wait....does that look very similarly to the distribution of net worth? Wow. Amazing what happens when you open your eyes, isn't it? Now..back to the lesson. Do the Red Sox enjoy a similar advantage? Absolutely. Over 25 other teams. So the Red Sox have a greater net worth than 83.3% of all the teams in baseball with a greater disparity than what exists between the Red Sox and the Yankees. Do they choose to utilize it? Yes they do...but not as much as they should. Let's see what happens when Beckett and Youkilis and Pedroia and Paps become eligible. So...when you have a net worth that is that much higher, you have the ABILITY to pay that much money in payroll. Their CHOICE is not to...until they went apeshit and spent 200 million in one off-season for 3 players. You choose to believe your front office's cries of poverty. You're no different than Jacko. You are sheep, being led around by wolves. Your front office tells you something, you believe it. You with your payroll, him with his prospects. Open your eyes. Realize that the disparity that you lament about in payroll is tied to net worth. Can't spend what you don't have. Your Red Sox have the ability. They choose to use it at their discretion. So do the Yankees. I commend the Sox on spending it. Same with the Yankees. The real deplorable thing is the Marlins, and teams that POCKET luxury tax money instead of throwing it in the team. Personally...I see no reason why the Yankees don't go after CC, Burnett, Tex, and Manny. Why not? One season of spending. Nothing really needed after this for 3 years. Better to do it this way, and cost your team only one year of picks, than to do this every year. It's the Red Sox model...borrowed from two years ago. Good plan.
  13. Tomlinson or Peterson available. WR wanted. Come on fellas...
  14. Maybe...just maybe...those guys weren't all that good, and it was the Yankees PR machine that inflated their value? Nah...
  15. Ok, Kilo I accepted the deal. I have LT and Adrian Peterson. I am willing to deal LT or Peterson for the best WR I can get. Best offer takes the one of your choice. I also am offering Willis McGahee for the best WR I can get. Talk to me guys. I think I may be getting the hang of this fantasy football thing finally.
  16. What the hell is BOY?
  17. As if he's going to be anything like what you remembered. I see a Clemens in NY thing for you guys. Good luck.

Exactly Crespo. It is way too small a sample size to base anything off of it.

This was some funny s***. Bosox21...it went from nothing, to a strained oblique...to a torn one...to saving a baby from a burning building. Next thing we know, he stopped a terrorst attack on Fenway, killed all the bad guys, rescued the baby [and her gorgeous mother] from a burning building, and raced in to try to save the pennant for the Red Sox. I'm really loving this...
  21. We both have cool avatars, don't we Crespo?
  22. Damn Kilo...good trade....but I'm on the fence here...s***.
  23. Yes. Where no one picked the words "worth less than s***" in the article, the sentiment was understood by me. I think what Bosox21 was saying was that people in Boston are quick to forget what a player has done for them and that his value to the team should not be based on one injury-based season. Whether I agree with the sentiment is irrelevent. However, irrespective of Bosox21's choice of words in describing Ortiz, it is a valid point. Would the FO be contemplating [once again, for your reading pleasure and lack of ability to comprehend what you read, no one is saying this is what the FO is doing] moving Ortiz if he had a 2008 that was similar to 2007? I don't think so, but it would be up for debate. When you add something to this site besides a cool avatar, let me know. Basically, based on your level of intelligence in posting, if I see you disagree with any point that anyone makes, then I know that person is correct.
  24. I don't think it's irrelevant at all, actually. Epstein has a history of running out players who are at the end of their productive runs...see Manny & Nomar. Due largely in part to Ortiz's injury IMO, his productivity has dropped. Now the fans and FO are comtemplating sending the most potent bat [arguably] in the lineup away. I think what Bosox21 is saying is that one sub-par season, and Boston is ready to throw in the towel on one of the greatest hitters in recent baseball history. Let it be known that I think it's a good idea to pursue it, but I don't think it's an irrelevant point. Anyways, I'm just arguing to argue...no real need to go further with this.
