  1. If you start playing guys based on their AAA performance and not their translatable skills, you will be highly disappointed. That being said, it couldnt hurt to see how he plays with the big club. The sox need patience and consistency more than superstar production from 1b. The proved that this yr with AdGon's mediocre OPS from the 1b position
  2. and provided they let him walk, will look very nice in pinstripes
  3. So those who are bitching about him need to stop. Yes, he is a prima donna and yes, he is definitely a "me first" athlete. 95% of the players are that way. But what is the point of him pushing this thing? The sox gave up on the season, they are way out of it, and he has an injury, that if not treated right, will end his career. And, Papi isnt signed past November. Why in God's green earth should this guy push anything right now.
  4. Bobby is doing exactly what he should be doing with this situation. There is no reason to crown a closer when your team is finishing off a death spiral of a season. If I were him, I would rotate those three through the closers spot for the next 5 weeks and get some info for next season
  5. This thread is funny. First off, why would Seattle want Lester? He's had a horrible yr, he isnt cheap and he is under control for the same amount of time as Felix. Secondly, the Yankees offered Montero, Betances, and Banuelos last yr. Last yr, those 3 were top 50 prospects with Montero being a top 5 prospect. We all know that Betances imploded, Banuelos got hurt and Montero is experiencing growing pains in Seattle, but at the time, it was akin to Bogaerts, Barnes, and Bradley. And the Mariners didnt even bat an eye when they said no. Felix has said he likes Seattle and doesnt want to leave. Maybe they extend him, who knows. I highly doubt anything other than the biggest overpay of all time would get Felix
  6. You guys do understand that an inflamed Achilles tendon is one that could rupture if not allowed to heal. If he ruptures his Achilles, his career is likely over
  7. I invented and imposed the reality that you are the 12th worst team in baseball and will miss the playoffs for the 3rd straight yr? You make it sound like the sox are winners in every way, shape or form in everything. Reality bites my friend. Once you grow up, you'll understand. High school must be tough on you
  8. You dont read well
  9. I'm not bursting any bubble my friend. I just force you to look at reality
  10. You arent getting Felix for anyone you just got
  11. No, dumbass, you arent reading it right as per usual. The sox depleted themselves of PRIME big league talent. These guys you got are close and are big league ready, but they arent stars, yet. They had to make this move. And yes, lots of questionmarks equals lots of losses. Have you learned anything over the past 3 yrs? I think the short bus needs to lose it's WiFi connection
  12. It does set them up for a sale
  13. "If" all those things go right, then you should also play the lottery and powerball. Lots of question marks means lots of losses, effectively. But the way the red sox were playing with a bunch of guys past or in their prime was getting them nowhere. You might not be very good next yr, but you will also be getting valuable experience for the kids who need to sink or swim in this market. There is a very strong likelihood that Lavarnway, Middlebrooks, Kalish, Iglesias, Sands and DeJesus play significant (if not leading) roles in your team next yr on offense. And I think Webster, De La Rosa, Doubront, Wilson, and maybe even Barnes will play roles on the mound next yr as well. This reset button gives them great flexibility. I think they go through next yr, see who is sinking, who is swimming, all the while filling the holes with players who fit the previous mold. That leaves them with a blueprint that they can execute come 2014. I will be totally honest with you here. The way the sox were playing and bumbling these past 12 months has been very comforting to me as a Yankee fan. Today's move, while very bold and does deplete the sox of big league ready talent, makes me much more uncomfortable. I think the sox are rebuilding on the fly and will be playoff ready come 2014/2015
  14. A deal of this magnitude might be brought forth by Cherington and Colletti, but the fingerprints of Lucchino and Kasten have to be all over it before this is said and done. This is as ballsy a trade as I think I might ever see, and it shows that the ownership is trying to make things right and do it the red sox way (circa 2004-08). If I was a sox fan, I'd be proud of what they did here. When the sox won their 2 WS's, they had one player making over $15 million. Prior to this deal, they had 4. Now, they have 1 (Lackey). They will likely not be very good next yr, but they will also be growing talent behind a home grown nucleus of players while also having gobs of cash when they need it. I think the big temptation as sox ownership, is to avoid going out and spending all their money like a drunken sailor this offseason
  15. I am just sorry. The sox are effectively trying to give as many Bostonians heart attacks as possible
  16. That is true, but Pesky mentored Pedroia and a lot of other current players on the field. It is different
  17. It's different when you are slogging away for a company behind the scenes at a job that is far from the spotlight. The Red Sox are beloved (or reviled) spotlighted heroes to some who are highly paid.
  18. Bob Sheppard was a public address announcer. Johnny Pesky was a retired number player/coach who was ever present with the players.
  19. This wasn't an absentee red sox legend who made 1 trip to Fenway in 10 years. This was a guy who was around the team all the time, was at every spring training and personally befriended, it seemed, a lot of the players. It's really inexcusable that 21 players on the big league roster couldn't take a night off and pay last respects to a guy who helped build the sox into what they are.
  20. We are certainly making this a race with our stagnant play. The subtraction of Nova and addition of CC might be of benefit since Nova's been awful for a month now. We have a ton of games vs the O's and Rays still, and the sox have a chance to play spoiler. We need to get healthy and quick.
  21. Nova keeps trying the be a strikeout pitcher. Until he remembers that his sinker is his best pitch, he will struggle
  22. Boras will not let him sign coming off a down, injury plagued yr.
  23. he failed a drug test. Dont be naive
  24. I grew up right next to Goshen in one of the towns you mentioned above
