    What I dont get is why we dont switch around our rotation so we can eliminate Phelps' start vs the sox altogether. I know we want to save CC and Kuroda from the Rays, but if we go... Kuroda, Hughes, Sabathia, Pettitte, Nova we can avoid having to throw Phelps or Garcia. Obviously, Pettitte would be on a pitch count so maybe they move Pettitte and Sabathia and allow CC a little more rest. But at this point, I'd rather see Andy throw 3-4 innings than see Freddy throw more than 3

    Back in first with a much needed day off. We can now adjust our rotation and probably get Pettitte into Garcia's or Phelps' spot. I'd personally see him take over Freddy Longball's spot since Freddy has effectively become a 3IP pitcher. Pettitte will be on a 60 pitch count, so it would be perfect. Pettitte goes 3-4, Freddy goes 3, then the pen takes over from there. I'd let Phelps keep going. I know he hasnt been great, but he's better than Freddy, who cannot seem to get through a lineup twice

    Ellsbury might need to fight for some playing time next yr if he keeps playing like this. Nevermind the Crawford money. I think his shoulder injury is more serious than is being let on and we will hear about some capsular tear in the offseason that will end up getting fixed. You dont all of a sudden lose all your power immediately without either coming off the roids or having some injury

    That Lester isnt around anymore. Even without his horrible July, he's a 4.40ERA guy. His K/9IP are down 2.3K/IP from 2010 and those guys are accounting for more hits and more homeruns. He's been about as effective in Boston as Freddy Garcia has been for us this yr. He still has his stuff, so maybe he could turn it around. But there is no indication that he is anything more than a #4 at this point

    You guys keep pining for the Jon Lester of 2 yrs ago. It's gonna take some work to get him back. You might have to face reality that Lester really is a mid 4's ERA pitcher at this point. Look at his splits from this yr. Coming into July, he had 3 straight months of ERA's in the 4's, then exploded in July with an ERA of 9.36 then had a solid month of 3.59ERA in August. Lester hadnt had one month this yr that rivals his ERA from 2010, when he threw to the tune of 3.25. That Lester may still be there, but there is absolutely no indication that he exists in this current flesh and blood version
