  1. Soria is a different bird, IMO. He pitched through elbow trouble in 2011 and then had TJS. He should be totally healthy in 2013 and if he reverts to his healthier yrs (ie 2010 and before), then you have an elite closer. If he doesnt, then he gets some run in your middle relief core and Tazawa or Bailey can fight it out
  2. An O's win and a Yankees loss guarantees a playoff. The Red Sox are locked into a protected pick, so they could theoretically make a run at Greinke and not lose a 1st rounder. It will be interesting to see how they rebuild this s*** show
  3. Tazawa should be in the discussion for closer next yr as well as Bailey
  4. Bailey needs a full spring training and should be in the competition next yr, but shouldnt be handed the job. My guess is the sox sign a fallen veteran to an incentive laden 1 yr deal (like Soria). Then have him compete with Bailey for the top spot in the pen
  5. well, it's time for bed. 9pm used to be going out time until 2am. Now it is get as much sleep before the kids wake up time. I cannot believe how lame I have become
  6. rotoworld reported that he was out for the yr
  7. I know you love me Brennan. I find it flattering, thanks.
  8. I didnt say Whaaaaaaaa! I said that Tex was safe and we should have another run. Look at the replay f***o
  9. 2-1. Should be tied, but good to see us score
  10. you are beyond ridiculous. Tex was safe at first, so the umps have cost us one run already
  11. broken ring finger, not thumb
  12. Aces eat innings, stay healthy, are consistent, give your team a chance to win regularly, and rarely go through terrible stretches. Buchholz is more in the Brandon Morrow category. Unhittable when he is on, easily rattled, and perennially injured
  13. I've been saying this for months. Why the f*** did they wait so long?
  14. Broken ring finger. Should be even easier to steamroll this abortion of a ball club. But watch, tonight Lester will remember that he could be a top of the rotation starter.
  15. Too bad I'm at work. Nice to see our full lineup bludgeon their way to first. I look forward to the yankees celebrating in full view of the sox tomorrow
  16. Cron and Adams look like bashers with very limited patience. Moore might be the way to go, although he is going to be 26 and might actually be a starter for the Nats next yr if they cannot re-sign LaRoche. With the sox complete loss of the ability to walk and the bringing back of Bill James, I think you are going to see more guys like Youkilis circa 2005 and less guys like Konerko roaming the halls of Fenway
  17. You'd take joy for about a day, then remember that your team is one of the worst teams fielded in the last 50 yrs. I am sure the O's took little solace in taking you guys out last season. Just to give you some idea here, the sox are 21 games under .500 since the ASB, good for third worst in baseball. And while you can definitely point to the offense being stricken with the loss of Ortiz and Middlebrooks, your pitching has notched the second worst ERA in all of baseball, and aside from Lackey, you dont have many reinforcements in the wings. Even worse, since the end of July, your team is 16-39. So, if you were to knock the Yankees into the round of the wilds, you'd be happy for a night. But it would quickly dissipate into knowing that your team was one of the worst in baseball after the break and drone on into the lonely dark winter with a lot of work to do.
  18. The sox made their bones with solid rookies coming in and playing at all star levels when they needed it. They also allowed their rookies to start in without a lot of fan fare. Youkilis started out as a so-so 1b and then blew up into an All-Star caliber player for 3 yrs. Pedroia was your #9 hitter. Lester was your #5 starter. Buchholz as well. Papelbon was a setup guy out of the spring until he was obviously better than the detritus closing at the time (I think it was Timlin). Ellsbury started out in a platoon. Bard in a middle relief role. The beat goes on. The problem now, is that the sox are in a boiling cauldron of fan anger and these kids need to come up and play like veterans right away. That's not a good way to break in young players. If you had the 2007 rotation with Doubront pitching as he is in your #5 spot, everyone would love him, instead of sox nation being split in half over his performance.
  19. The sox will also have a shot at a few extra picks should Papi walk. I dont know if Ross has compensation either, but the qualifying offer will be around $12 mil and I think the sox would rather not go that high for him
  20. You really don't have a grasp on the English language.
  21. You have to see where Ellsbury is, and with his agent, he wont allow the kid to sign prior to FA anyway. It benefits both parties. Ellsbury has shown an alarming loss of power. Couple that with a shoulder injury that was rehabbed and you have to think that there is something structurally wrong in the shoulder. I wonder if the sox are going to see something on his post-season MRI/physical. But, if the physical goes well, the kid strengthens the shoulder in the offseason and comes back hitting 20+ bombs and running around the bases like a madman again, then you gotta try to keep him. Also, a huge problem the sox seem to have is letting their guys go and overvaluing their prospects/undervaluing the wrong prospects. With the sox sunk in almost all areas of the team, they might be better served to see what they have next yr, and build for another run. They won in 2004 with veterans, but their 2007 team was grown either via trade of prospects or the ascension of prospects. Right now, their best prospects are in AA and will likely require another half season to be ready. The sox should, IMO, not do anything drastic (ie long term contracts) this offseason (maybe re-sign Ross and coax Papi into a 1 yr deal). They can try to find scrap heap signings for the rotation and hold spots for guys like Barnes, Webster and De la Rosa. Once those kids show they have mastery over AAA, they ascend, take the spots and show if they can handle it. If they show what Doubront has shown (great stuff, inconsistent command, big time promise) then you gotta ride with them. If they come up and look like Craig Hansen, you demote them and deal them before their stock is ruined.
  22. I understand, I was just making sure that the gloating Brennan understands the score here.
  23. Dude, your team is a complete embarrassment and you're still obsessed with the yanks. I love the inferiority complex. Enjoy the offseason! Oh wait, yours started 6 weeks ago
  24. Must be fun to only have someone to root against, lol
