  1. Cashman's only two recent "mistakes" were the Ellsbury deal and the Stanton deal, and the Ellsbury deal was a Boras to Steiny/Levine deal. The Ellsbury deal actually was the impetus for Cashman to get more power. Listen, the cost to get Stanton was the reason we got him. The only issue is he started to get hurt. After his first season with us, his deal looked like a steal. He is still young, so I would wait to decide on his deal until he has a full ST
  2. Nobody is off limits, especially for a team staring at a profound rebuild. The fist thing the sox need to try to do is shed cost. But if they can deal off a star and get the groundwork for a rebuild/new core in return, then you gotta take it
  3. Chavis reminds me a lot of Steve Pearce. I think the likelihood is he ends up a platoon power position player with enough positional variability to be a crack utility guy at 2b or 3b. But he needs to cut his swing down a bit and make some more contact. His strike zone is laughably predictable. You cannot throw him soft and down. If you throw him heaters in the upper part of the zone, he cannot hit them
  4. With Paxton not right and now on the shelf, the Yanks are looking hard at starters (shocking). The crazy thing is, they arent using the top prospects sitting in the alternative camp! Schmidt, Garcia, or Gil. The first two are big league ready, the last one maybe a year away. But the lack of willingness to use these guys is absolutely puzzling to me. No point in throwing JA Crap out there. I have no issue using JMont behind Cole and Tanaka, but we have to start using the kids. If we do not add a starter, I would want to see Schmidt come up, Loaisiga get a long look as the 4 and roll that way
  5. You don’t hire Bloom and tell him to start signing shiny objects for 2021. When you hire Bloom, you do so with the understanding and trust in his process. The Sox are terrible. The Sox farm is pretty terrible. They’re very, very far off from being championship caliber, and if the Sox spend themselves into mediocrity for 2021, they’ll have done themselves no favors. Being in purgatory between the bottom 5 and the PO contenders is punished in baseball more than any other sport since after the top 5, the talent in the draft is a total crap shoot. Outside of the fluke year of 2013, the Sox championships have been either built directly with home grown stars or built by dealing off home grown talent. You cannot be a champion again until you build the farm back to a venerable spot. Under Bloom, I expect the Sox so be abjectly terrible in 2021. By 2022, they’ll have built the farm into the mid teens range and will start to have some equity to trade for some real talent. By 2023, the Sox will have a top 5 farm system with a home grown core and tons of money to spend. By 2024, they’ll be title contenders again. 2019 is the Yankees 2012. It took 5 years before we saw an LCS and a complete turnover of the team. I’d expect more of the same with a similar team. Old, broken down, expensive and terrible farm.
  6. There is zero need for Holt. You’ve got a month left, best to see if Arauz can catch fire and be a real solution for 2021 or if you need to get a 2b of the future for 2021. You can always bring Holt off the scrap heap this offseason
  7. Stanton is definitely looking like a bust at this point, although with 7 years on the docket, it might be a bit premature. 150 games in 18, oft injured in 19 and now down with a soft tissue injury in a rapid reboot of the 2020 campaign. So long as nobody gets a 2021 season injury this year, it should be viewed as a clean slate. The degree of injuries this year have been massive and due to the short season, most are of the season ending variety. Now in terms of the Yanks expenditures for 2021, I disagree on the pitching staff. Tanaka will almost assuredly be had for less than his current salary and I’d be shocked if he’s gone to a different club. Paxton is a goner. Happ is a goner. That leaves a rotation of Cole, Tanaka, Montgomery with Severino heading in as a reinforcement for the late second half. My bet is one of the kids steps up for 2021 and the Yanks sign a veteran on the cheap to fill a hole til Severino is ready. They’ll need to extend some pen arms and keep the checks and balances clear for re-signing Lemahieu, Sanchez, Judge, and Torres
  8. Pivetta is clearly a big league quality arm. I do wonder if he’s best served as a reliever long term. Maybe Bloom sees him as a bulk guy following an opener. Seabold sounds like the righty version of Beeks. Control, command guy with average K rates and solid walk rates. Seems almost like another bulk type guy for Bloom. If you look at the Rays from 2019, there were only 3 real starters. Glasnow, Morton, and Snell. Glasnow and Snell spent a lot of time on the IL. Chirinos ended up in the rotation later in the year, but he was a very effective bulk guy. Yarbrough made a living out of it. Beeks was very good at it. This is how be broke starters into the big leagues. Now for Bloom’s position to work, he needs to develop effective openers. Right now, the Sox don’t have any. You will. This deal is very Bloom-esque
  9. Britton to the IL Gleyber left the game today with a hammy strain. Paxton has forearm discomfort and is getting an MRI. The Yankee injury brigade continues its march
  10. 2021 draft order will matter a TON to you in 2021. If they don’t alter the rules, I think the sox are going to be the 2nd team selecting
  11. John Henry has learned that there’s no sentimentality when it comes to building winners. The Sox won 4 titles with 4 vastly different teams.
  12. That’s not written in stone. From what I’ve read, the MLBPA granted the commish the right to alter the 2021 draft if the season was less than 81 games. As to how it’s altered, nothing tangible. The most likely scenario is not an alteration of draft order but a shortening of the draft to 20 rounds
  13. Hunter Greene is not MLB ready. He had TJS in his first full MiLB season
  14. The Yanks won 5 titles with an offense first, negative D SS, so I disagree there. The Yanks aren’t going to be in on Lindor. The Yanks will spend to improve their rotation and keep their core.
  15. Bloom is not a masterful drafter. He is a masterful trader. Look at the Rays “starters”. Snell was there before he took over Chirinos was in the farm before he took over Glasnow was acquired by trade by Bloom Beeks was acquired by trade by Bloom Yarbrough was acquired by trade by Bloom Their relievers have the same spin. Very few get drafted by the Rays and make it up to the majors, but the Rays have a knack for dealing off valued pieces or prospects and winning the trades. Bloom is an expert trader
  16. I’m reviewing his contract and yes, it was team friendly, but no, it’s not a full 6 year $120 mil contract. Bogey gets a NTC this year AND has an opt out after 2022 when he will be 29 years old. Clearly, with his level of play, that opt out is a near certainty unless he gets injured. So with only 2 more years of control remaining and the Sox in a spiral, I think Bogey is less a foundation piece and far more likely to be a trade piece. Rosenthal may be right. If you’re rebuilding, you cannot have one of your most marketable and valuable trade chips choosing his destination
  17. I think he realized his needs were to acquire as much talent as possible. Downs can be flipped for pitching
  18. It’s going to be really hard to compete in 2021 with what the Sox have. My bet is they add to the SP via a FA acquisition as Sale insurance. I also assume ERod ends up a deadline trade casualty as he really cannot be dealt in 2020 and is only under contract for one more season. The biggest acquisition the Sox will make will be via the draft. Strange times when it’s highly possible the guys being drafted haven’t played college or high school baseball in over a year. But the Sox should have a top 5 pick, and with some deadline attrition, it’s certainly possible the Sox have a top 2 pick. You’ve got a shot at a generational talent, and you cannot miss
  19. Chaim Bloom is an expert trader. Expert. Top notch. His Betts trade was a win for the Sox, clearly, as the Sox ain’t winning s*** this year with or without Betts and they now have 4 more years of Verdugo and a top prospect to show for it rather than a comp pick when Mookie left. Bloom was given a s***** team with zero payroll room, a devoid farm and a pandemic. Cut the guy some slack
  20. If Verdugo does end up an all star talent (I think he’ll have a few AS games in his ledger), then the trade is a steal for the Sox. You cannot look at any trade in a vacuum. It’s about years of control and circumstance. One year of Betts at high cost in a year where the Sox are more likely to be picking top 5 than last vs 5 years of a future all star at minuscule cost plus a top 50 prospect. I was surprised Bloom could get what he got for Betts and half of Price’s contract. He did well. Now, you need to hope he can do the same with any shorter term assets to really burn this club to the ground and start over.
  21. My bet is you would hide if the Yanks took the title. I’ve dealt with people like you for years. I’ll outlast you, no doubt.
  22. Dombrowski did what he said he’d do. He won a title. He did not leave a caveat, but he left the Tigers in a rut they haven’t climbed out of. The Sox are headed the same direction. That’s why the Sox hired Bloom. Bloom can build. It’s exceedingly more difficult to build these days. He’s proven capable of doing it on no money
  23. I am happy, although for the rivalry, it’s best when both teams are awesome.
  24. Is that English? Your team is dogshit. Your farm is dogshit. Your payroll is dogshit
  25. Your sorry farm isn’t likely to help you as much as you think.
