  1. Rays are on Wake tonight
  2. Hughes is throwing 93-94 on the toronto gun and 95-96 on the gamecast gun. His curve looks pretty good too. I just wish this kid wasnt gunshy. Walking Adams was just plain dumb and leaving a cockshot to Rios on 0-2 was also stupid. 30 pitches after 1, the kid better get through next inning unscathed.
  3. worse than steroids in terms of competitive balance. The Jets should get a 2nd round and a 5th rounder for this.
  4. Cora is one of the worst offensive players in baseball. So is Lugo at this point. Its like debating whether to be kicked in the nads with steel toes three times or have your balls locked in a vice for a minute. Both suck and leave you in pain.
  5. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw smart and sentense in a sentence.
  6. I dont even have to try to get under your skin, do I? We all know that the sox offense has been a mystery this yr. Enough strength to stay among the elites, impotent enough to look very poor against even mediocre pitching. Your pitching and our horrible start has held the lead. Your offense struggling isnt too much of a surprise.
  7. What a wonderful lineup. This can go to show that without Papi and Manny, this team doesnt hit.
  8. having 6 against Baltimore when Bedard, Guthrie, Ray, and Olson are out and Trachsel is in Chicago can only be good for us.
  9. .267 7HR .492SLG in 21 games with Washington. He is hitting the piss out of the ball
  10. Sounds bad, really, really bad.
  11. It may be weeks to months before we know the density of his paralysis. Tragic story. Good luck kid. It is so crazy to see a top notch, professional athlete become an invalid in a moment. Reminds us all of how fragile even the most built, monster sized athletes truly are.
  12. I think this can partly be blamed on Francona for riding this guy into the ground in some cases. If they really wanted to treat him like a rookie, they never would have let him continuously surpass the 110 pitch mark and even make it up to the 133 pitch mark of earlier in the yr. And I do think this guy builds off this season and comes back stronger, but for this season alone, I see a lot of frustration and confusion in him. And that reminds me of when Javy Vazquez came to NY, lit s*** up early then fizzled late. And we all know how that ended.
  13. I was caught up in the moment, umpires are a part of the game and should never be removed. But, should the game go automated with instant replay or a laser level strike zone, then there would be no bad calls. Nobody could argue.
  14. it really is going to be interesting to see. He has imploded something awful of late, and I think even the most staunch of sox fans has to question how he will fare in October.
  15. Schilling has shown in a small sample that he is reinventing himself on the fly. If he can transition effectively to the finesse pitcher that he has become and he doesnt get overly caught up on being a power pitcher, then he could remain effective. But lets not get carried away, his 17K's in 37IP shows exactly how far he has fallen. He's not a power pitcher anymore. Not even close. He doesnt have swing and miss stuff anymore either. He is not the kind of guy who can take the bump and say, "Just give me one run guys" and he'll take you to victory. He's more like the guy who can give you a QS if needed and your offense will have to do the rest. Kinda like Clemens, except healthier at this point. Should be an interesting playoff series if we meet. Dmats was the big equalizer between our staffs. With his struggles, your rotation is suddenly very thin. But with an easy schedule and a 5 game lead (in the L column), it wont hurt you in terms of the races. For the playoffs, you better hope Manny is healthy, cause you will need to score.
  16. The true indicator of a pitcher being tired goes back to number one. If he is locating his fastball like he typically does and has similar velocity to his typicaly speed, then you know he isnt tired. And I dont think there is anyone out there who will say that his location or velocity have been normal over the past 3 weeks. The guy is tired. He is not used to throwing this often or this deep into a season. He typically threw every 6th day for 140 games in Japan. Over here, he is throwing every 5th for 162 and playoffs. This is likely something he will adjust to over his career, but right now the guy is absolutely spent. And this may not be something he recovers from this season.
  17. ARod is en fuego. 4 games up in the WC while we are surging.
  18. There must be something to this pitcher's adjustment from Japan to america. About one week ago, following DiceK's previous debachle, he was quoted as being "exhausted mentally and physically". Then, just to show that he wasnt joking, he throws his shortest and worst outing to date. DiceK is in a free fall, and it may not be one of those "spells" that guys like Pettitte and Wang have gone through and then righted. This looks like it is exactly what he said it was, sheer exhaustion. If this continues, the sox will be going into the playoffs with one of their biggest advatages being neutralized, the depth and effectiveness of their playoff rotation. Should be interesting to see if he rights the ship, but this guy looks very much like Javy Vazquez circa 04.
  19. the Orioles flat out suck right now. Cannot wait to see them face us, they are a dead team a playin.
  20. YANKEES WIN!! 3 up on both Seattle and Detroit in the L column with 2 more in KC while Det and SEA get to battle it out. We should start rooting for the M's, as I think they are most likely to tank after this series. Detroit may be a tough one if they get going.
  21. Kennedy pitched rather similarly to his first game. Awful first 2 innings, dominant after that. Surprised they pulled him at 81 pitches. Farns looked good, good to see Dr. Jekyll today. And Joba was solid as well. Its up to Mo to shut em down. And y228, you are right, we have been awful w/RISP. But we are in a position to hand a lead to Mo, which is all you can ask for.
  22. especially after that call on Cano with the bases loaded and a full count. That umpire should be fired on the spot, that ball wasnt even close. Cost us a run at least.
  23. once again, Gom shows why he is about as useless as nipples on a dude.
