  1. I'd take him
  2. Nobody would surprise me. But with Papi, you have a failed drug test, so you have a bit more evidence
  3. its for a PTBNL. I think this is a 40 man roster move and after the Rule V draft, NY will get someone
  4. If only he was healthy. I truly believe that his control issues were improving until he broke his foot. Ever since then, its been down hill. I still dont like dealing pen depth when you are likely to move Hughes into the rotation, but I have a feeling he is moving to open up for a FA acquisition
  5. Both are guilty. Next point
  6. NY actually has 2 MLB ready SS's, one offensive (Eduardo Nunez) and one defensive (Ramiro Pena). I dont expect either to become All-stars, but they do profile safely as MLB SS's.
  7. Bay wanting to sign in Washington puts an interesting spin on things. If he goes to Seattle, then the market for Holliday just exploded
  8. He's just negotiating. I think he will get a higher salary than last yr and have bigger incentives, but the premise will be the same. Nobody is gonna pay him more than what NY will offer.
  9. I don't think you understand the meaning of the word "paranoid." Listen, these guys took roids and got caught. ARod, Giambi, Manny, Papi, Pettitte, Sheffield, whatever. Saying that the test was wrong instead of just accepting it is immature and naive. When you get older you might understand.
  10. And that is why you are gullible
  11. you really are willing to give Papi a pass here? Wow. Gullible
  12. Andy gets by on the cutter and his location. Good velocity is nice, but unnecessary in how he attacks hitters. If he still gets the movement he was getting on the cutter and if he still has the location, he'll be good again as our #3.
  13. Gom, Posada is not a FA after next season. He signed a 4 yr deal.
  14. It depends on need Gom. If NY is getting tighter on the payroll strings, then it likely wont stop after this yr. And to have 3 starters locked up long term for an AAV of $59.5 million, then you cause them to have to tighten the belt a little more. I'd rather have some flexibility. Also, the urgency is gone. We have a very solid top 2 in the rotation with a true blue #1 ace in CC. We still have a lineup that can mash with and probably better than anyone and we have a farm system which has started to produce. The flexibility will be key. Now, at the same time, our contingency plans are going to need to be there as well. If Pettitte retires and Lackey signs with Boston, then a 3rd pitch is a definite need. So the trade market will need to be scoured. Overall, I would rank the 4 prospects as follows: Montero, Hughes, Chamberlain, Jackson and would be very, very reticent in moving Hughes or Montero. And I would have to be blown away to deal Joba in both return and need. Right now, that need isnt there and I am not sure about the return. Also, why not just sign Lackey. That takes all the pressure off. He's younger, he'll only cost a draft pick, and he's pitched well in the playoffs.
  15. Yes he can. The problem is, the guy is probably the worst fielder in the history of yankee minor league baseball. He's a DH in our farm system, meaning he is perpetually blocked. If the DH spot opens at least a little, then he could get his one shot.
  16. Heyman and Olney are contradicting themselves. I still say, let the sox get Halladay and we need to f***ing sign Lackey.
  17. You are probably right, I think Damon is most likely since Girardi made it very clear that he wants the DH spot to be flexible. That might open a spot for Miranda when all of the guys are in the field. Its about time to see what he can do.
  18. Hence why I thought resigning Matsui or Damon + a trade was more prudent. I knew we werent players for Holliday or Bay. This kinda confirms it. This also makes a deal for Halladay very unlikely. As it stands right now.... Lineup: SS- Jeter 2B- Cano 1B- Teixeira 3B- Rodriguez C- Posada RF- Swisher CF- Cabrera/Gardner LF- Jackson DH- Miranda I expect that to not be our opening day lineup, but that's the most likely scenario I can see. Potential black hole at the bottom with a solid 1-6.
  19. Iglesias may be the SS of the future, but you wont know until he gets into A or AA next yr. If he comes out and hits like Mendoza, then you're gonna have to temper your enthusiasm a bit. He has to prove that he can carry the stick before he gets into the equation for sox SS
  20. Marco Scutaro, at 33 yrs old, set career highs in... BA, OBP, SLG, OPS, HR, BB, tied in RBI, SB, and doubles. And his line was .282/.379/.409, which is solid, but certainly not something that you'd expect to be a career yr from the hottest commodity on the market, especially seeing as he isnt anything special defensively. Overall, it fills the hole and gives the sox some more time with Lowrie, but I think this just continues in the long line of SS flails that Theo has encountered since dealing Nomar.
  21. plus he's durable and is probably the best defensive Molina at this point, which says a lot
  22. mlbtraderumors.com 1yr 4mil deal to setup Wagner. Saito could not be offered arbitration, so the sox do not get a compensatory pick
  23. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/marinersblog/2010414546_oh_canada_mariners_seriously_l.html Mariners making a push for Bay and Harden. It would be interesting if the sox lose him to the M's and how strongly the sox would then start courting Holliday
  24. Right now, I do not want to make a trade for a pitcher. There is a plenty good option out there who is younger than Halladay, has more playoff experience and is a free agent in Lackey. Now, Halladay is undoubtedly better, but signing Halladay will require probably a 6 yr deal. Signing Lackey may be a 5 yr deal. The question you need to ask yourself is which one is better, column A or column B assuming Halladay will get a 6 yr $110 mil deal and Lackey would get a 5yr $90mil deal Column A: John Lackey for ages 31-35, $20 million less in commitments, and 2 of Montero, Hughes, Jackson, and Chamberlain Column B: Roy Halladay for ages 33-38, and you get to keep the 2010 first round pick When you look at the stats, I dont think the extra acquisition cost is worth it. Halladay's career WHIP is 1.20. Lackey's is 1.30, Halladay's career ERA is 0.40 better than Lackey's. Halladay has thrown 4 200IP seasons over the last 4 seasons, while Lackey has essentially had 5 over the last 7. Both are durable. Both keep walks to a minimum. Halladay is better, but when you consider the fact that whomever we get will occupy either the #2 (Halladay) or #3 (Lackey) role on this team, then I dont think you need to go over the deep end. C.C. changes this whole dynamic. Also, one must consider that Halladay is 2 yrs older and in all likelihood would need to have an extra yr on his deal. So the ages of acquisition matter, a lot. Also, you need to factor in the fact that dealing for Halladay gives you one year of control, so it isnt like last yr when you would have had two seasons of control. So, right now, I would not trade Hughes or Montero for him at all (since I think Hughes is going to have a very strong career as a starter and Montero is a special, special bat). Now, if Pettitte hangs em up, Boston signs Lackey, and no other tradeable options hit the market, then I would be a bit more inclined to deal for him. But my maximum offer would be either Joba + lower level prospects or AJax + lower level prospects. I would be very reticent to deal both Joba and AJax and I would pull Hughes and Montero off the table altogether. I know that wont get the deal done, but I am very wary of dealing high end talent for a mid 30s pitcher.
