  1. What is it with you and your hate for Posada His line from 2009... .285 22HR 81RBI, .363OBP, .522SLG for an OPS of .885 which was third best on the yankees behind Tex and ARod. He belongs in that role
  2. So, to recap. NY saves about $1.5 million by moving Bruney and spends $5.5 mil in 2010 on Granderson (albeit the AAV is around $8 million since he makes $10.5 million in 2011). Thats an increase of $4 million for 2010. Here's the lineup up to date 1. Jeter SS 2. Granderson CF 3. Teixeira 1B 4. Rodriguez 3B 5. Posada C 6. Cano 2B 7. Swisher RF 8. Cabrera LF 9. Miranda DH the lineup is looking better, especially when you consider the likelihood that Montero is in the DH role come mid-season
  3. The rumor is that NY struck a deal with Washington that is a bit sneaky. Washington is going to select one of NY's players and then return them to NY thereby circumventing the rules and allowing the Yanks to keep a player off the 40 man for another season. Its an interesting idea. There are three guys who fit that category. George Kontos being one, since he's a post TJS player, he can be stashed on the 60 day DL by any team that so chooses. Kanekoa Texeira is another, a swing guy with a good sinker/slider combo that is being considered a high likelihood to be taken in the Rule V. And the other is Grant Duff, who had been throwing as high as 99mph as the season ended, but inconsistencies in both control and secondary stuff made him too unreliable to place on the 40 man. Its an interesting idea. That being said, I'd much rather take the best talent available and then go from there
  4. He had a subarachnoid bleed that was not major. Major subarachnoid bleeds do not recover like he did. He was lucky, but I am pleased that he recovered like he did. I am glad he left on his own terms. He brought a lot of info to the table, most of it biased and wrong, but probably less wrong than the next guy. So be it, that's the age we live in today. Maybe we can get a former NY Post hack in there so we dont have to listen to the Red Sox love day in and day out
  5. One thing this does do is open up our 40 man roster something fierce. Bruney first, now with Grandy coming on board and 3 more going off, we will have 3 open spots without changing a thing.
  6. not including Dunn makes this deal more palatable since Dunn now slots in as the second lefty in the pen. I dont mind giving up on Coke at all since he was looking at a DFA if he didnt make the team. Jackson may or may not become better than Granderson. If Granderson starts to hit lefties to the tune of a .700OPS, then I agree, this is a steal. I am kinda shocked that NY gave away Kennedy as a throw-in. All this time spent trying to recoup his stock and he still goes as a tertiary piece. This is still a lot of talent going Detroit's way, and like I have told Gom many times before, watch Kennedy become a good starter in the desert.
  7. I dont think you can sit back and say that he will give you X, Y, and Z. Know what I mean? He's given a half season's worth of average performance. Thats not reliable. He is still very much a crap shoot for 2010 as is Joba and Hughes
  8. a previous report had NY getting 2 prospects with Granderson. Regardless, from an organization standpoint, I dont like the move. From a 2010 standpoint, this is a great move.
  9. It might be Aneury Rodriguez
  10. You need to separate the defense from the offense IMO. I would rather have Granderson in CF due to his increased range, especially if we have a tank in LF. Melky is an average to slightly below avg CFer when you go by UZR and IIRC Granderson is better than average, so it makes sense to use Grandy in CF.
  11. As constituted right now, the sox are a team that is a contender, but not the favorite for the WC IMO. Their offense has a major hole without Bay. They lack a 3rd reliable pitcher in their rotation. And the defense is below average. Too many holes. Any improvements over the current team, though, brings them into the lead in the WC IMO
  12. There is definitely a precedent with Buchholz. Theo skipped high A altogether with him and put him in Portland. Kelly could do that, but the big issue with Kelly is his IP limit. I highly, highly doubt that he sees any time in the bigs in 2010. Two reasons. By the time he would see time, he'd be at his IP limit, which will likely be in the 150IP mark. And two, Kelly doesnt need to be put on the 40 man until after 2011. Why eat up a spot on the 40 man for a big offseason after 2010 when he could not be on it and still be protected?
  13. Looks like Cashman is putting the kaibosh on this one for now. The overall net net would be.. Yankees giving up: Austin Jackson, Ian Kennedy, Phil Coke, and Michael Dunn Yankees getting: Curtis Granderson and 2 prospects not named from Arizona I understand the logic behind passing on him. Internal discussions have Jackson as actually a more complete player rather than a platoon player and giving him up plus 2 lefty relievers and a top pitching prospect in Kennedy is highway robbery. Also, Granderson strikes out a ton and has never hit lefties well at all. Now, it depends on who the two prospects were, but I see why they passed. Its also very easy to bash the Yankees on this one. Granderson was an automatic out vs lefties in 2009 but he did have one season (2008) where he wasnt completely abysmal (.739OPS). Also, he provides above average D from an up the middle position and adds speed as well. Plus, he hit 30 homers in the spacious Tiger stadium. A move to NY could have seen him hitting 35 or more homers from the top of the order. Regardless, I figured that we'd have to go with Jackson plus prospects to get Granderson. Personally, this is about what I expected. And I can understand those who bash this passing and I can understand why we passed. I also dont think we are too far off. Instead of Kennedy, maybe put Kontos who is recovering from TJS, or Ivan Nova into the equation and you probably have a deal
  14. Exactly. There is an interesting name out there that could throw his hat into the ring. Koby Clemens is eligible. He was moved from 3b to catcher and was absolutely nasty last yr, granted in a hitters league. .345/.419/.636 with 22 homers as a 22 yr old in A+. But I doubt they pick a kid who hasnt played in AA yet who plays a position that our farm is the deepest
  15. I dont think there was much debate. He has a ton of work to do just to become an MLB potential position player while he's incredibly advanced for his age at the pitcher's position
  16. Johan Santana and Josh Hamilton say that you're wrong
  17. You are correct. That protection is provided unless a deal is struck to put that player in the minors or until that player is returned to their original team
  18. It depends on who they select, but the yankees essentially get their pick of all minor leaguers not on the 40 man who have 3 or 4 yrs of MiLB service time
  19. and I am fine with that. But to beat that, someone would really have to rape their farm incredibly.
  20. Thats the absolute maximum I would offer assuming we lose out on Pettitte and Lackey
  21. Bay will get offered more than 4yrs for $60 mil. If the Red Sox are intent on having a 30HR 100+RBI LFer/DH, then they better be willing to pony up.
  22. Well, minimal is in the eyes of the beholder. I wouldnt go any further than 2yrs at $6 mil per
  23. It is interesting seeing DeRosa's name come up especially since the Granderson rumors are gaining steam. DeRosa is a guy who could start at 3b for a bunch of teams, but in all likelihood, is more of a platoon guy on a championship squad. His wrist injury will likely limit his suitors as will his age (he'll be 35 prior to ST). But here are a few things to keep in mind... NY seems to have a hard on for Granderson, a player that the Tigers seem to be trying to give away. In Yankee Stadium, Granderson could have a field day. But Granderson is abysmal against lefties. Now, if Granderson is in center, you could always platoon him with Melky, but how will you improve that dropoff in production when lefties are on the hill? Enter DeRosa, who has a .900+OPS vs lefties last yr and hit 10 of his 23 homers vs them. Plus, DeRosa could actually start 100+ games anyway since he could give Cano a breather at times and could probably be pencilled in to the 3b role once a week while ARod DH's. I like the idea, if the cost is minimal.
