  1. They would be good, but the best team ever? Cmon now, I dont think its enough to get back into the AL East, let alone the best team you have ever seen.
  2. Theo has been outbid by amounts that make him look cheap
  3. Per rotoworld, the Yankees are looking into signing Ben Sheets or Justin Duchsherer. If we signed Sheets, it would be with the intention that he has a SP role locked up. If we signed Duchsherer, it would be an overall depth role since he is a pen or a rotation arm depending on his health. I have said all along that you need 3 reliable arms in your rotation. We have them, getting Sheets or Duchsherer are fine options to throw against the wall and see what sticks. I'd much rather have Sheets though
  4. Wow, that would be quite a coup. Lackey to the #3 spot solidifies that rotation something fierce and it opens the sox up to deal for AGon. Lester, Beckett, Lackey, DiceK, and Wakefield is a pretty nice top 5 IMO.
  5. Halladay, Lee, Hamels would be a hell of a top 3
  6. In no way, shape or form should someone guarantee him $5 million. He was a very good pitcher. But he's status post major shoulder surgery AND was a guy who relied on one pitch's speed, sink and control. If anything is off at all, he's meat.
  7. I see your point, but, think about it this way. It wont be park neutral for either of those players. Gonzalez will be going to one of the more difficult parks for a left hander by dimensions and Holliday or Bay would be playing in one of the best parks to hit as a right hander. Just a thought.
  8. Does it really make a lot of sense to pass on Bay and Holliday while spending 3 top prospects to get Gonzalez then pay him like Holliday plus. Doesnt make much sense Player A- .277/.376/.529 for an OPS of .905 over the last 2 seasons Player B- .325/.405/.555 for an OPS of .958 over the last 3 seasons Player C- .279/.371/.519 for an OPS of .890 over the last 3 seasons A is Bay B is Holliday C is AdGon The reason why Bay's analysis is over 2 yrs is because his 2007 was a career low season that was completely uncharacteristic. The difference isnt much to be honest with you, and two of those guys could be had for money alone. The guy with the lowest OPS of the three would cost prospects and money. It doesnt make sense
  9. Children, play nice. So, it looks like Bay is a goner. Some team has apparently offered him 5 yrs and we all know that the sox are now the highest AAV for Bay. It doesnt even look like they are trying at all to retain him.
  10. I bet he gives Boston the right of last refusal. That being said, SF would be a good place for him. Good pitching, a weak division and a 1-2 of him and Sandoval could be very, very nice.
  11. Nady is not a good defensive outfielder. He might be just what the doctor ordered for the sox though. In that stadium, he could be a 25-30 homerun hitter
  12. I dont think he has any intention of giving Boston a hometown discount. Hell, why should he? He's been underpaid per the league norms for the past few yrs and this really is his last chance to strike it rich. He will get 5 yrs from someone, and if I were him, I'd hold out until I did. Maybe he should give the red sox the last right of refusal, but that makes good business sense since the sox are in the second best baseball market in the world. Bay will end up with 5yrs $80 million or so.
  13. Someone will offer him 5 yrs, even if it is a vesting option. The longer the sox wait on this one, the more they are going to get burned. They have an absolute dire need for a middle of the order bat and they might be letting Bay go for a couple million dollars here or one season there. It isnt good business for an extremely big business baseball team
  14. Span because he gets on base more. The entire job of a leadoff man is to see pitches and get on base. Span does that much better than Ellsbury does
  15. Boras is doing his usual posturing, but this time, he has absolutely no leverage. Everyone knows that Damon is not what he used to be and that he really is perfect for only one team, and that's NY. But the Yankees dont absolutely need him and they have other FA options that they can turn to. The Granderson trade changed the entire landscape of the offseason with our OF and DH spots. Hell, if I was Cashman, I'd pull all offers on the table and make a 1 yr $8 million offer to Matsui, Cameron, and Damon and see who bites first.
  16. I just dont see Beltre over Lowell enough of an upgrade to justify eating 9 million and then offering 10+ mil per yr for Beltre. His defense is very good, but he doesnt fix their gaping hole in their lineup.
  17. Lee, Halladay and Hamels would be a hell of a top 3
  18. I know that he has a .900+OPS vs lefties throughout his minor league career. That and he plays good D and has some speed. All I am asking him to do is continue to hit lefties. If he doesnt do any of that in ST, then send him back. But right now, I think he is the best option in the system for the OF vs left handed pitching. Especially since we sent Duncan packing and since we added a guy who cannot hit lefties at all.
  19. He isnt. If Matsui and Damon come cheap, then this kid is going back to LA no questions asked
  20. a700s point is valid though. If the sox are cutting payroll, why dont they drop the price of a ticket so that more true diehard fans can go. Lets be honest, the crowd at a sox game is nowhere near equivalent to a 36,000 person sample of New England fandom. Most of those bastards are on the phone or having a conversation and not watching the game. When I am watching a yankee game, I hardly talk to anyone until the commercials are on, and if I am talking, it is about the events of the game itself.
  21. Beltre is a ticket to mediocrity. You lock up that versatility that VMart and Youkilis give you by buying Beltre to play 3b and you do it for a marginal benefit while spending lots of money in the process. Beltre is a Boras guy, he's getting $10 mil a yr or thereabouts for 3+ seasons and you then deal Lowell and eat $9 million. Is having Beltre really worth $19 million in 2010? I just don't get it.
  22. Typically, Shaug is a douche, but he is 100% spot on for this one
  23. As it works out right now.... Granderson is starting CFer vs Righties Swisher is starting RFer when he isnt DHing Cabrera is starting LFer vs righties and starting CFer vs lefties Gardner is the true 4th OFer/defensive replacement for Swisher and pinch runner Hoffman is starting LFer vs lefties They all have a role. Now, there are two rumors hitting the mill. One is that Damon will be back with NY, which will bump one of the OFers out since Damon will play some ball in the OF. That likely makes either Cabrera or Gardner expendable. The other is that Matsui will eventually resign. That shouldnt change much but it would take away from the flexibility that Girardi has wanted
