  1. I'm pretty happy I'm a fan of the Spurs, Red Sox and Padres from my time living all over the US. (Used to like the Celtics before they got Garnett, back in the Al Jefferson/Ricky Davis/Antoine Walker days). It's nice to have a diversified portfolio. Padres aren't too good currently and the Sox are finding ways to disappoint right now.
  2. I actually stopped watching after the 6th inning. "Doubrant is dealing and the Sox are up 9. I'm going to go run my errands now...it looks like this game is over" I am a fool.
  3. I actually didn't even think of that. I have Gameday up but can't see the game. Anyone on the Sox get robbed of a hit or anything?
  4. If that's the case, I'd just like to share the roster on my MVP Baseball 2007 team (yes I know that game is old but I don't have any new gaming consoles). 1 - Curt Schilling 2 - Pedro Martinez 3 - Tim Wakefield 4 - Derek Lowe 5 - Josh Beckett I have an interesting AAA team too 1 - Matt Clement 2 - Jon Lester 3 - David Pauley 4 - Clay Buchholz 5 - Michael Bowden Rosters are current as of, well, 2007
  5. Are you guys talking about a video game, fantasy league etc?
  6. Beckett needs to just lob one under 70MPH at Beltre. I remember some Yankee pitcher struck Beltre out on 3 straight slow pitches. Is there something wrong with the ump's strike zone? MLB gameday is showing Beckett tossing em in the bottom-center of the strike zone
  7. Nick Green count? I always liked him. He had one awesome play that I'll also remember where he fell over and still made the strong throw to first. And of course, he could pitch a little.
  8. I agree with you. And since I moved to San Diego from Boston, I've begun following the Padres. It hurts to like a team that just isn't good but the Red Sox are far from being in the MLB's basement. And there's always a chance the Sox get Oswalt right? In the middle of the season, or they could pull some trade to energize the team like they have in seasons past with Victor Martinez and Jason Bay.
  9. I said B. I know I'm usually not too hard on the team or management but given the constraints BC had, I think he did alright. For the people saying the team is no better than at the end of last season, I don't think there was much hope of re-signing Papelbon. Whatever his reason for leaving, be it to get the taste out of his mouth of blowing that save to the Orioles to getting more money, it would have been hard to keep him. Ortiz had such a good season, I would have wanted him around again anyway. And I don't like the Scutaro trade, but I'm holding off criticism until Aviles or Punto show what they bring to the table. As a financial analyst, I understand what Cherington was going for. By signing all these "pitching reclamation projects", he's diversifying the risk in hopes of finding some sturdy starter in the backend of the rotation. I can't really blame him, considering in recent years how disappointing it can be to throw all your money at one player. I don't feel as confident as I did going into last season, but who could have foreseen Carl Crawford and John Lackey struggling as they did?
  10. To be fair, if I were him I'd want that under wraps too.
  11. So Tek gets a job in the organization if he retires. No similar offer for Wake?
  12. I liked Scutaro a lot. He was probably the best hitting SS the Sox have had in recent history unless I'm forgetting someone major. I really do hope the Sox get one more proven starting pitcher. But I like them stockpiling guys that can fill that last spot.
  13. I actually agree with you, but I have a bias. I always liked Crisp, and if he's an affordable acquisition, I'd go for it. At the very least, he is a reliable pinch runner. This is all incumbent on his willingness to accept such a role with the team.
  14. If he put up Scutaro-level numbers from this past season next year, I'd be happy.
  15. Near the end it was clear the Red Sox wouldn't have prospered in the playoffs anyway. At least, that's what I'm telling myself to make me feel better. Their pitching just wasn't playoff-calibur.
  16. This definitely sucks...but that's how sports are I guess. The silver lining is this team gets a wake up call and maybe Crawford comes back next year.
  17. It wasn't as satisfying seeing it happen on MLB Gameday but I'll take it. Awesome finish!
  18. I agree. It may suck for him to bat in the 6th spot but he hasn't shown to be deserving of a spot higher than that.
  19. It's not that bad. There was some team not too long ago that was up 3-0 in a playoff series and then lost the next 4 games to the eventual world series champs. Now that's bad...
  20. I'd rather have Wake starting and Aceves relieving as well. Maybe even combine the two for a start; if Aceves throws a fastball at 92mph after Wake's thrown 5IP of knuckleballs, it probably looks like a 100mph fastball.
  21. I'm with lasitter on this one. If Wake wants to come back, and he remains cheap, I think the value of having him on hand is well worth the 1 roster spot. As others have pointed out, he's done better than Miller, Weiland and Lackey. It's true, having another player on the roster just so he can catch knuckleballs sucks, but if Salty can consistently improve his fielding, Wakefield is good insurance. I can't remember a year in which injuries haven't hurt the Sox big, most nightmarishly 2006 I believe.
  22. Can the Sox send Miller and Atchinson down? Also, why would you cut ties with Bedard? Isn't he a quality-start machine? Yeah he gives up walks but he keeps teams from scoring 5+ runs. At the very least, Bedard as a #5 option is good. Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, (Blank), Bedard
  23. I didn't get to catch the game. Can anyone tell me what rivers last pitch looked like? I caught the first game of the series a few days ago and Rivera got some generous calls on pitches outside that even YES commentators found to be lucky.
