    One writer's take on Bond's and the HR record...personally I think this writer is putting way too much emphasis on individual records...and having way too much confidence that other players, specifically ARod, are and always have been 100% clean.     Both are at the top of their profession. Both also have competition from Putz, Hoffman, etc. for the totally subjective title of "best closer". Yeah, the leagues are different, each closer's situation is different, manager's use of the closers are different, their ages are different, blah, blah, blah. All that matters is the here and now...and right here and now I'm pretty happy the Sox have Papelbon. I couldn't care f***ing less what Saito does or doesn't do for LA...unless the Sox are playing them at some point.

    problem is money talks, even in the big house...there are ways of ensuring relative "safety" and i suspect Vick's $$$ would buy him some protection.

    This is the one and only part of this case that concerns me. A criminal can repeatedly rape a child and get a lenient 3 year sentence because his Daddy used to call him names and hit him. A thug can rob and execute, mob style - -in a restaurant alley, an innocent citizen, then cop a plea and be out in less than 15yrs. First-time gun-crime offenders (i.e. armed robbery) can often be out in 2 years because...well...it was their first time, and heck, they didn't actually shoot anyone. But if you ruffle the puppy's fur, you're fckd big time. What's more, I can't tell you how many people I've known or met who treat animals BETTER than they treat other people...including their own family. It's sickening.

    Sean, what's a Congressional Rep? I'd gladly sniff Regfrigerator Perry's game-used jock before I'd watch: Survivor, or 911 Nanny (aka "I'm A Fkn Loser and Can't Control My Kids, Whom I Shouldn't Have Been Allowed to Have Anyway and I'm Amazed Anyone Fukked Me In The First Place"), or Danny Partridge's dysfunctional life story, or that black dude with the clock around his neck, or Dancing with the Has Beens Liuckily it's summertime and we're busy with L.L. and such. Come fall I'm gonna need to re-subscribe to Comcast's On Demand so I can get quality programming...ok, yeah I mean the skin flicks and such.

    this will impact the price of the other big name outfielders becoming FA's after the 2007 season...$18-$20m per through an extension would be huge money.

Of acquiring the soon to be 33 yr old with 11 seasons under his belt, Ainge says: "This is something we've been talking about for a year, to try to take advantage of this window of opportunity with a player that we think is one of the best Celtics that's ever put on a uniform in Paul Pierce," Ainge said. "We want maximize his career. We want to surround him with more veterans and more talent. And that's what we've been trying to accomplish" By "maximizing Pierce's career" does he mean a first or second round playoff defeat is acceptable?

    Biased? no, the guy wouldn't throw out a statement like that just because of his bias. Premature? Yes, takes balls to make a statement like that and all too often it comes back to bite a guy later. I don't see any need for a statement that strong.

    The All-star voting, and thus the game, are a joke. I only care after the fact...i.e. if the Sox were to get to the WS, then I care who won. Otherwise MLB can shove the fkn game up their collective ass. Anyone know if Chris Spermin is doing the HR derby? Damn I can't stand his call of it.

    C's front office is rudderless. Completely fkn rudderless. What happened to "building" a championship team? This is a quick fix that will make the team better in the short-run but that's about it. I find it very hard to get excited about the Celtics potential rise from the cellar to mediocrity. Now yes, if they add another player at or near Garnett's level, they'll be poised to win a round or two in the playoffs, but still, they're not going to be good enough or deep enough to truly contend. Way to go Ainge. Way to cave in to Paul Pierce, or were you simply trying to save your own job by rising up to the ranks of the also-rans?

    Joke or not, my point was that there are SOME OFs who would have made that play, however we have what we have. I'll take Manny's bat over that ball being caught in June.

    A number of OF in the league would have caught that ball. But they weren't out there and it is what it is.

    Problem with Beuhrle considering an extension is that if they get close to a deal but DON'T pull it off, it sort of sets a target on his $ if he ends up going the FA route. It's not like no other teams will know the $ that were on the table in any proposed deal. That s*** would leak out faster than the drool from my mouth if Jessica Biel's bare ass were hovering 10" from my face.
