  1. Good for him, nice to see him having some success in AAAA.
  2. I'm following via yahoo gamecast, so I could be behind but I'd go right after Papi. Guy I would most want up now? Lowell.
  3. If Dice-K was going to have a bad day I'm ok with it being today, since he'd have to be throwing a shutout thus far to have the Sox not be behind. I imagine the pitching staff is getting a bit frustrated with the offense lately. It's fkn aweful right now.
  4. If this team would start scoring some runs I wouldn't have to start thinking about a Xanax refill.
  5. Great description GOM.
  6. When the Yanks played briefly at Shea, our family was there to see a Sox-Yanks game. As we approached the park, Rizzuto walks by and says hi, so my brother says "Mr. Rizzuto, can I have your autograph?" Rizzuto says "sure sonny" (in that well-known tone of his) and signs for both of us, pats us on the head and thanks US. RIP, Phil.
  7. I remember Andrew Dice Clay doing his stand-up, talking about picking up girls. He said he goes for the big ones...and thinks "no one has even THOUGHT of fkng that...I'm gonna make her mine," as he lures her back to his place with promises of bon-bons and chocolate kisses, greases her hips to get her through the door, etc. How could someone not see the appeal?
  8. If the Sox were overtaken by the Yankees in '07 it would not come close, for me anyway, to 1986 or 2003. In 1986 I was well old enough to feel the true pain of that collapse. 2003 was the most suffering I've ever felt from a sporting event...bar none. A collapse over a longer period of time, which happens consistently, but gradually, doesn't hurt like the sudden collapse does. But then you Yankee fans know all about that, so I'm preaching to the choir.
  9. but you did say most of us would have laughed at the possibility...thinking something is not possible is tantamount to believing it impossible. Anyway, semantics aside, my point was that those who've been Sox fans for a long time never get comfortable with any lead and I believe that sentiment was echoed loud and often in this forum a couple of months back.
  10. Even the Sox announcers yesterday said it almost seems like Francona is forcing the issue...they felt where Okajima might have been counted on for multiple outs prior to Gagne's arrival, suddenly Oki's role has shifted somewhat. So instead of Gagne becoming a complimentary piece to what was already in place, they're feeling like he's being slotted in and other, to-date very successful performers, are having their own roles adjusted.
  11. I tend to disagree that "most" would have though that scenario impossible. It depends to a degree on the age of the individual and their experiences as a Sox fan. Anyone old enough to remember, vividly, 1978 and everything since, would have said it's not over till it's over. Personally I never counted the Yanks out and said more than once that this will be a race before it's over. Unfortunately it looks like I was right.
  12. Funny you mention the start of the "playoff push ." On the Sox day off last week, being up 6, I was out with a buddy having a few beers and said it feels to me like the push starts tomorrow...it just seemed to shape up that way. That being said, to have two devestating losses against the O's really hurts. I'll be honest, year in and year out I fear the Yankees, no matter how far out they are, no matter how bad they play at times...probably a product of growing up in the New Haven area where tons of Yankee fans were constantly breaking our balls, unprovocated of course and seeing many a collapse. However, as constituted I like this team. The piitching staff is still one of the best, I feel the BP will right itself, and I have to believe some of the clutch hitting we're accustomed to will come back into play. I'm cautiously optimistic, and yeah, I'm looking over my own shoulder, but I'm on board.
  13. A Yankee fan said to me at work "I can't wait for ARod to break Bond's record, then it'll be owned by someone who didn't cheat." I asked how do you know he is/will be/has been clean? How do you have any certainty that a guy did not/does not juice? I trust none of 'em and figure those who do juice are just trying to keep up with their competition. Personally I don't really blame them if that is the prevailing environment of the game.
  14. I'm thinking there'll be some minor injury issues which will cost them a few games and they end up about 49-33.
  15. you fkn heartless prick.
  16. How many wins ya think they get this year? They had a whopping 24 last year, although it should be noted that they tanked it down the stretch...so maybe last year they were a true 28 win team. With the losses and additions how many games do they win this year? I've seen a few predictions of as many as 60 wins...and laughed. I've seen many predictions of 55 wins...and I remain highly skeptical. I've seen predictions of 50 wins, too. 50-32 is a win % of .610, that's pretty fkn good. And in '06 there were only two teams in the East with 50+ wins. So how many wins do they get?
  17. And after those three and Rondo they probably have one of the WORST rosters in the entire NBA. Depth is important and defense is important. The Celts have to little of both.
  18. "lure of a possible championship" sorry, this team is still flawed and will not contend for a title, not as constructed and not with Reggie Miller.
  19. Seems Aaron is only remembered for the HR's...what often is forgotten or unknown is where he ranks in other categories: #3 in hits #1 in RBIs #1 in total bases #4 in runs scored with a career .305 average not too shabby
  20. Personally I trust none of MLB's players, from the stars to the fringe players...and that includes the three guys you mention above. Bonds was 10 times the player McGwire and Sosa ever were, and when they started bashing HR's at record pace, I think that really pushed him to outdue them, at whatever cost. I think it would be naive to not at least consider the thought that ARod could be exhibiting the same behavior.
