  1. das...I agree to a point that Jeter isn't 100% thrilled with ARod's success. by the way, how old were you when you dropped out of school?
  2. ??? You'd prefer he did it with his glove?
  3. Wow, never was confronted by that dilemma...so I guess we'll have to take your word for it. By the way...which one was worse?
  4. JD Drew...damn, sometimes I think this fker is made of wood or something. Who's his Dad, fkn Gepetto? Unlike Pinnochio, Drew doesn't have a lieing/growing nose issue. No, with JD, it's that the more he falters the less he seems to care. On a good note, after Drew scored the go-ahead run a couple of nights ago I actually saw him clap...like three times...clap, clap, clap...and there was almost a hint of an expression on his face. Could the Boy Made of Wood (BMOW) actually be coming to life? And who is the "Jiminy Cricket" that may be influencing this puppet of a man? Only time will tell. (By the way, in the original version of Pinnochio the boy is hanged for his many faults.)
  5. Good point. It's tough to weed through all of the variables that lead to team success in an effort to pick out "the best" of all time at any position. Staubach had great teams and coaching. So did Montana. So did Bradshaw. So has Brady for that matter...they win because they are a great organization, not just because they have a great QB. Still, the bottom line is they win. I could not give a rat's ass about career numbers. Show me how a guy does at crunch time...and the three guys you mentioned above are right there as the best of all time when the game is on the line.
  6. When does he become a FA? The Yanks will be all over his ass given his success against the Sox.
  7. Kazmir looks like he put some weight on recently. Looks more solid, thicker...even his face looks fuller...Creatine?
  8. If/When Favre overtakes Marino in some career stats it means he'll be equally overrated, that's all. Records of longevity are not the best measures of talent or worth...especially if you agree that it's what a guy does at crunch time that counts. Emmett Smith, Payton, and Barry Sanders top the career rushing yards list...are any of them better than Jim Brown was? Roger Clemens has the most CY's in history, is 2nd in career K's, 8th in wins, etc...but is he the guy you want to toe the rubber for ya in a crucial game?
  9. Fields and his 100+ K's and .288 OBP? right, there's a ROY for ya. Arguably Delmon Young is having a better offensive season than Fields (!2 HR's 81 RBI's). I think the award is Dusty's.
  10. Should be...but considering Jeter won back to back GGs ya gotta wonder if he'll be properly recognized.
  11. Not surprised in the least and it wouldn't have mattered who was named. With the money and ego implications I trust none of 'em, and that goes for ARod. Whenever I hear "I can't wait for ARod to break Bonds record cuz he's clean" I wanna slap whoever is speaking...how the fk does anyone know if he...or anyone else...is clean? Not for nothing, ARod does look a lot bigger than he did just a couple of years ago...and it ain't the pinstripes (because I believe vertical stripes have a thinning effect!).
  12. agreed. all it's gonna do is give fans of other teams more reason to bust our balls.
  13. What? No votes for JD Drew? My vote would go to Lowell.
  14. So when the music's over, When the music's over, yeah, When the music's over Turn out the lights, Turn out the lights, Turn out the lights.
  15. yeah, just terrible. wouldn't want to see that. heh, heh, heh.
  16. And I’m Heart break runaway I’m on the fast track toward the interstate I’m leaving this place without a minute to waste No looking over my shoulder It’s over
  17. I agree he was probably trying to back Youk off because Youk does tend to dive in, a la Jeter. That's why I don't see why some Yankee fans get worked up by Jeter getting brushed back...and I don't have an issue with Youk beiong backed off. But to claim that two pitches in a row "slipped" is pretty lame, no? My point was to step up and say I was trying to pitch him in...if you wanna say it got away a little bit, do so, but don't expect anyone to believe you were trying to throw a strike when two pitches ended up over Youk's head. As I mentioned ealier, if I recall, Francona was answering a question within the context it was asked...it was not some off-the-cuff remark...it was solicited and he responded without saying that the kid threw at Youk but to say if he was trying to get our attention, it worked...simple as that. You all are reading way more into it than necessary. And as far as the "c" issue? Please, I'm sure Pedro and other Sox pitchers have been called names like that or worse...this sport has been around a long, long time, I doubt the "c" word was used for the first time in this particular game and I doubt it's the worst thing ever said. In fact the more I think about folks being upset about it, the more it makes me laugh...whaddya all want Beckett suspended??? It's fkn silly I tell ya, silly.
  18. My comments on your points: 1. There have been...personally I've thought his command was pretty decent. 17 k's and 3 BB's going into yesterday's game...that doesn't sound too wild to me. 2. Not sure what he was thinking...maybe he was reacting to the whining Yankee fans who are constantly complaining that Yankee pitchers dont't retaliate? Perhaps he was reading Torre's comments from the past several years complaining about Sox pitchers hitting Yankees? Maybe the heat of the rivalry was getting to him and he felt buzzing Youk was necessary to be a team player? As I said earlier I don't think he was trying to hit him in the head...I do think he intentially went way up and in. 3. It is quite possible he was juiced up...but I don't think the ball "slips" outta your hand twice in a row over a guys head at 98 mph because you were juiced. As for player comments, how the hell would anyone know everything that is said in similar situations in the pastt? Do you truly believe Beckett's comments were out of the ordinary? You seem offended by his use of the "c" word...do you think the Yankees were as well? I remember plenty of times when a Red Sox pitch went up and in that the Yanks were on the dugout steps yelling...and I'm guessing a lot of similar things are said in the heat of battle...big deal. As for Francona, I thought his response to the question he was asked was fine. He was asked if he thought the kid was trying to hit Youk or come inside to send a message...his answer was a direct to response to that question. Based on Torre's comments on similar situations in the past I think he'd respond pretty much the same way. So with this part of the issue you're making something outta nothing. Oh, and I would not be surprised at all if Torre did not grab the kid and address his intentions as you suggest.
  19. If Chamberlain wants to be a tough guy, then play it out all the way. First, you want to hit a guy, then fkn hit him, get him in the butt or hip or something. And then tell the media "no comment" or admit you were trying to move him off the plate. Not Joba. His comments? "I'm trying to get on top of a couple of pitches and they slipped." Uhhh, right. Two pitches in a row "slipped" and went just above Youk's head...at 97-98 MPH? I'm not saying he was trying to hit him...but I think he was trying to send a message. And for a guy coming into the league who wants to have an impact in this rivalry, he's certainly gotten himself on the radar screen...albeit without exhibiting any true "balls" (as someone in this forum credited him with) by throwing TWO pitches over the head and saying they "slipped." The guy has spotential to be a force...wish he were in our organization...but he's got a lot to learn in terms of how to play the "game" beyond the game itself.
  20. Pretty funny.... http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/tampa/part1
  21. is this code? are you saying take the over? do you have some sort of inside info and this is how you get it out to your peeps?
  22. Is it me or is anyone else wondering if JD Drew will ever look like he cares?
  23. Good point, ORS, the Damon 2 RBI single was a seeign eye hit, as was another hit that inning. Manhandled? right. On the other side of the coin, and I'm not doing a woulda, coulda, shoulda, the Sox hit some balls very well that were caught. It's all part of the game.
