  1. The key here, IMO, is to maintain a comfortable lead in the wild card race, thereby allowing Tito to rest some guys and, hopefully, peak at the right time, i.e. right at playoff time.
  2. :dunno: I didn't have one. I made a statement, you asked a leading question, I answered it and you had an issue with my answer. This is actually pretty comical.
  3. Wait, is it really considered "dissapointing" if we're all really glad about a specific team's struggles? I've changed my mind..in terms of the Yankees, I think they're my least dissapointing team.
  4. Back in the day I'd be afraid to face Izzy Alcantara cuz he might knife me if I struck him out.
  5. Tigers Yankees
  6. I do not do it, myself, but I don't object to others doing so. Why? While I am somewhat religious, I don't feel I've earned the right, in terms of upholding my supposed religious obligations, to ask God to bless someone. Not sure if anyone remembers the comedian Red Skelton...he had a TV show where he'd sign off and say "Good night and may God bless." Once he was asked why he doesn't say God Bless You and I think he replied something to the effect of "who am I to tell God to bless someone. I kinda feel that way, that it's not my place.
  7. Personally I don't like the GBA break in a BB game. I find it shallow and self-serving of the organizations that employ it. Wanna play America the Beautiful? I'm all for that. Or hell, how about My country Tis of Thee, or fkn Yankee Doodle! To me GBA is a religious work, not a patriotic song.
  8. What makes you so sure that it's his decision? If I'm the Sox, I'm getting this thing checked out thoroughly because there is too much at stake...in terms of winning and in terms of $$$. You f*** this guy up by running him out there with a vulnerable arm, and you not only lose him for a playoff run, maybe you're paying him $10m next year while he rehabs from surgery. Can't play around with this thing.
  9. So we're now discussing Drew's ability, or inability, to stay healthy in the Kotsay thread? Let's sum this up... - he's a good player - he's had himself a nice year - he helps this team offensively, particularly with his strong OBP - he's a professional and exhibits some class on the field - And there are valid concerns over his inability to stay healthy, regardless of whether it's a HBP, a cramp, a pull, a tear, a disc, etc.
  10. Pretty fkn bogus if true. Can't pee during God Bless America? Never heard that one. When I was at an Guardians game a couple of weeks ago, several Guardians fans in frot of us left their hats on during the National Anthem. No one said a word...yet to me that is more disrespectful.
  11. I was anticipating that no extension was going to be offered until they saw how he comes out of the gates next year. 2008 Josh Beckett doesn't equal 2007 JB and I suspect before giveing him $13-$15m per year for the next several years that FO was going to wait and see...now they have no choice. As far as signing a FA until Beckett comes back, assuming he misses significant time, unfortunately what you get for a SP when you try to sign short-term is not going to be a Sheets/Sanathia, etc. as those caliber guys will be signing long-term deals. There's always the possibility of trading for someone who'll be a 2010 free agent and whom their current organization is sure they won't be able to resign....but that means moving prospects. Brandon Webb, anyone?
  12. Then give it to him.
  13. What would deflate them more than their closer giving up a dinger to Youk right here?
  14. Jetes may have gone on his own, no?
  15. Haven't looked through this thread so not sure if anyone mentioned this... Last night they show Nicholson in the crowd with the Yanks hat on and Remy or Orsillo comments on how he's always rooting against Boston...then they bring up the Lakers and one of them says "yeah, how'd that work out" or something like that, and they chuckle. Pretty funny.
  16. A lot of this thread has touched on the lack of a deal by the Yanks and Sox for Santana. The Mets needed a big performance out of their ace last night. Did they get a huge, September-like performance from him? I'm not sure, didn't see the game, but the stat line looks decent. While the BP held on, given their BP issues, I'm not sure 6 innings is what they were looking for from Johan. So would you guys call this a big money game by Santana?
  17. Go easy on Cash...he did have the sense to get rid of Nick Johnson who's injury history makes JD Drew look like Lou Gehrig. Actually I always liked Nick Johnson, good 1B, good OBP with a ton of potential but can't stay on the field.
  18. VA, shame on you. That's two consecutive posts in which you've highlighted ARod's struggles in the clutch. Given the boos he received, dontcha think the poor fella needs some support? Like, a little love, or a long-distance forum-hug? Give 'em a break, for heaven's sake.
  19. Pavano is pitching?
