  1. Interesting...according to the link below, Sox are 4th in team salary and many teams are in the $120m range. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/salaries
  2. Of course he was cool, approached by a southern belle like yourself, who wouldn't be?
  3. Personally I don't find his comments insulting, I've always tended to view his remarks as part of the show. At the same time, everyone knows that the Sharptons and Jacksons of the world are listening and waiting for a chance to to pounce. Guys like Imus keep giving them opportunities, and that is what pisses me off more than anything. The PC crowd revels in their demise and if they want to stay on the air, there are limits. All of the charitable activity in the world doesn't get a guy off the hook when he goes where Imus went...unfortunate...but that's the way it is.
  4. Still don't understand why a guy who knows there is a target on his back already would say stupid s*** like this. Does he wanna get fired? Does he need the attention? WTF?
  5. That was his defense, yes. Not sure I believe that his intention was to point out the plight of the black man...I feel like this might have been an explanation he fabricated, knowing he was in trouble and knowing the stats were on his side.
  6. Is this evidence that he truly is a racist/bigot? Or does he think this is the way to successfully run his program? Or is Imus just fkn stupid or devoid of self-control? I think it's a combo of #1 and #3...he's a bigot and he can't reign it in for the good of his program. What a douche.
  7. I think he meant Cano is starting to smoke a bowl.
  8. I think that was sarcasm, tongue-in-cheek humor. Well, either that or this guy's a bigger f***ing idiot than originally thought.
  9. Try Centerfolds on LaGrange St....bring your wife or girl, she'll love it.
  10. Because when you're paying a guy $8m, you choose the path that is more likely to result in him playing for you this year...provided it doesn't adversely impact the player health-wise...and I'd submit that Schilling is no worse off than he was before the failed rehab attempt. The cost to Schilling, IMO, was simply delaying the surgery by 6 months, an event of little magnitude, given this would likely have been his last year anyway. And I'd submit hsi long term health/quality of life has not been adversely impacted by delaying the surgery.
  11. righteous bucks.
  12. In what way was Schilling harmed? By giving him a chance to earn his $8m? With surgery there was less chance he'd pitch in 2008. Probably true. Meanwhile, the probability of a successful 2008 return after surgery was likely 0%. IMO, the combination of minimal adverse impact to Schilling via the rehab route and the potential that rehab could allow him to contribute to the 2008 Red Sox made the chosen course of action appropriate. Nicely done, FO.
  13. Here is how I see it: Sox invested $8m in him. Schill comes up lame. They want to get some production outta him and the only possible way is by having him rehab the shoulder and hopefully competing towards year end. If it doesn't happen, the team is no worse off than if he'd gotten surgery to begin with. Schilling is only impacted by the 6 months gone by since the time he could have had surger, it's not like his arm needs to be amputated now because he threw a bit. What some of you folks seem to be saying is that the Sox had an obligation to forego any return on their investment by handing him his $8m and shutting him down so that he could get surgery immediately and potentially sign elsewhere in the future. What about the FO obligation to the Sox ownership group, it's players and it's fans to put the best possible team on the field? If the Sox front office was manipulating him, Schill could have said FU and gone the surgery route anyway, and gave his $8m back.
  14. So the "cost" to Curt was that, had he undergone surgery in the spring, he'd have been potentially able to pitch early 2009. I suppose that might be enough of an issue to result in some resonating frustration for Schilling. On the other hand, as I've said before, he did get $8m for his trouble.
  15. With surgery Schilling likely doesn't pitch in 2008. With rehab, he likely doesn't pitch in '08, but there was a glimmer of hope. So what damage has been done, other than the Sox paying him $8.0m for nothing? If Curt wants to continue his career, can't he have it done now, start rehabbing over the winter and maybe pitch for someone in 2009?
  16. Good post. Meanwhile, Curt continues to cash checks as he collects his $8m. IMO, the Sox did what an organization paying out $8m should do...try to get some return on their investment.
  17. Did they wave the white flag yet? (Jeez, I'm a reprehensible SOB, but couldn't help myself)
  18. Ahhh, Tiger is like Nomar...body breaking down cuz he was using PEDs. Kidding.
  19. It's just about time they get rid of the aluminum and composite bats. With the size and strength of the players and the bat technology, someone's gonna get killed and games are becoming to offense oriented. Excuse the tangent coming at ya, but even in L.L. it's gotten to be a joke. My son is 12 and on the all-star team for our league...he's about 72 lbs. We have 8 kids who will turn 13 before the all-star tourney is over (thanks to a stupid age change which said anyone turning 13 after April 30 could play that season as a 12 yr old...makes no sense). 6 of these 8 kids are big, like 130lbs or more. I graduated high school at 145! We have one kid, 5'8, 155 lbs., another is about 5'6", 200+ lbs, and our best pitcher is 5'5", 180. These kids are swinging composite bats and hitting balls outta the park on check swings. Too big and too strong for the 60 ft. diamond, especially given the equipment they use.
  20. So I'm guessing Hank will go to the media and say "see, if Colon didn't have to bat, the Sox wouldn't have lost Colon, it's all the NL's fault, blah, blah, blah?" Nah.
  21. CC's "suit"ors...better have a lot of material cuz he's a fat f***.
