  1. ya gotta be f***in kidding me. in some eery way I'm having flashbacks to Schiraldi
  2. i dunno...will Hissey fit? (get it? hissey-fit?) nothing? no? not even a titter? tough forum.
  3. Lowe, Billingsly, Kuroda, Maddux? Not awe-inspiring. While I'd take that match-up, gotta win this series first. Sox are far from a lock to play in the WS.
  4. Wait, perhaps a better comparison is Jason Marquis, 2004 World Series, when Ortiz nailed him hanging off third indecisively? Whatever the case, bad baserunning, but a tremendous reaction by Youk to even put himself into position to make the play.
  5. Agreed. On a side note, I was just looking at what other SPs were FAs in 2010 (some with team options) and they include: Bedard (don't like him) Duchscherer (like him as a lower in the rotation guy) Harden (not sure) Cliff Lee (great 2008) Brandon Webb (like this kid a lot..but he does pitch in AAAA) Some of these guys won't stick with their current teams until FA, IMO, and might be available through a trade, but again, for someone of Webb's caliber, a team will have to pony up some prospects and potentially some MLB talent as well.
  6. Quinny, is you're user name last-name related or did you perchance go to Quinnipiac U? I ask because in another forum there was a guy named Quinny U who, obviously, went to Quinnipiac here in Ct. Just curious, not stalking or anything.
  7. Not sure I understand the sentence above. You later intimated that perhaps a 4-5 year deal in the range of $17m-$18m per year will get done for Beckett...I'm of the mind that giving Beckett that kind of money likely precludes the trade for a RH pitcher from the NL who's contract calls for $15-$17m for 2010-2012. Are you saying the Sox would do something like this regardless of BEckett's status? Or that you believe the Red Sox will not look at Peavey regardless? Not sure where you're coming from.
  8. I didn't make the line-up. :dunno:
  9. Isn't Matthews a switch? Edit: He is a SH and in 8 plate appearances vs. Lester is 3 for 6 with 2 dingers.
  10. Heard this as well. Not sure how that would fly in Boston, given his contract looks like this: 2008 salary: $6.5 million 2009 salary: $11 million 2010 salary: $15 million 2011 salary: $16 million 2012 salary: $17 million Assuming Beckett remains healthy and effective, you're potentially looking at him commanding similar money in an extension...and Peavy aint won s*** to date. Meanwhile Brandon Webb is looking at $6.5m for 2009 with a team option at $8.5m for 2010...well below his current worth. I think there is strong potential for him to be moved before the 2010 season, as the D-Backs, with a current team payroll of approx. $66m aren't likely to pony up 1/4 of their payroll for one guy. With all this in mind, while the focus is on Sabathia, Sheets, Burnett, et al...there are viable options to improve/maintain one's staff over the next couple of years, but it'll cost some scoot...or, in the case of Peavy and Webb, some prospects.
  11. agree 100% At this point in his career, at his money, I wouldn't. In terms of his overall career, I'd have been happy to see him in a Sox uniform all those years, no doubt.
  12. I'm guessing by "you" you're referring to others who seem to revel in articles, statistics, data and opinions that depreciate Jeter's perceived value? If not, let me remind you, in case ya missed it, I was the guy who posted that I'd have liked having him play for the Sox all these years. As for your list of reasons for the fans mistaking Jeter for a great fielder, I think you're giving them too much credit...I think the casual fan, the true band-wagon homer, the classic "I love the Yankees for 26 reasons" type of fan, gets more from the media, Kaye and Sterling than they can figure out on their own...they are much more influenced by the ballwhashers than by their own eyes, IMHO.
  13. The stakes are so high, and at least a split is so important, I'm not sure his status matters; in other words, if they lose the first two, the Angels have to pretty much play themselves out of the series in order not to take at least one of the next three. Silver lining might be that the Halos have proven that to be a skill of their's.
  14. I'd certainly have been happy to see him in a Sox uni all these years. Good player, class act, although the fist pump could go. What I think some fans object too is the constant ballwashing by the NY media which leaves many, particularly less knowledgeable Yankee fans, thinking Jeter is actually a great defensive SS, which is far from the truth. An acknowledgement of this reality by the Bronx throngs might quell out-of-towners distaste for Jetesy.
  15. Well, Hank is at it again, crying the blues and complaining...so I thought that perhaps Hank has earned himself a thread of his own here for the purposes of tracking his ridiculous whining. The latest (from sportline.com): On Revenue Sharing: Authot's comment: So the Yankees are out of the playoffs because of socialism. Check. On the Divisional Setup in baseball I guess he'd prefer to go back to the pre-divisional days, where the Yanks outspend every team in the A.L. and then, by winning the regular season pennant, move directly on to the WS? Being stuck on 26 looks to be hard to accept. On the Playoffs Ah, Fredo...thanks for the fodder.
  16. Yeah, ok, maybe, but he's so pretty.
  17. Seems there's a discrepancy between what he told friends vs. what he told the Yankees? In Boston that'd be a huge deal, with some jackass writer going off with wild assumptions about friction and such.
  18. I never really know what to believe or not when it comes to the behind the scenes in sports. For instance, from various sources: August, 2003 - Manny expressed in an ESPN interview that he would like to play for the New York Yankees. July 2005 Reports were...that Ramirez had asked to be traded, and Red Sox president/CEO Larry Lucchino confirmed it at the time, citing that the left fielder was disenchanted with the lack of privacy that comes with playing in Boston. Oct 2005 - According to Saturday's Boston Globe, Gene Mato, a representative of Ramirez, communicated the request to Red Sox owner John W. Henry that Manny be traded. Misrepresentations? FO attempts to make Manny look bad? Or accurate journalism? At any rate, Manny was not moved until such a time that he had to be moved (and apparently wanted to be moved) and for that I am pretty grateful, since it meant seeing him hit on a regular basis for an extended period of time.
  19. I'm of the opinion that the demand you refer to above has a lot to do with not wanting the option picked up so that he could get a longer term, guaranteed contract at substantial value vi afree agency NOW, while he is still healthy and producing, rather than later when his value may have diminished. I think it's a shrewd move on his part. Even if Manny signed a 4 yr $48 m deal this offseason it's still $48m gauranteed vs. the $20m option and a potential decrease in his market value...plus, if you're right, it gets Manny out from under these pricks who malign him...it's an absolute win for Manny.
