  1. Boyes absence doesn't directly lead to signing Ryder and the B's certainly were not "forced" to sign him. IIRC, Ryder played for Julien in Montreal, so that connection likely influenced him being with the B's. Ryder had 2 consecutive 30 goal season before last year, in which his role changed significantly. The returns so far on Ryder are not spectacular, not for the $ he's being paid. However, that signing has nothing to do with the trade of Boyes, per se. You might argue that it has more to do with Glen Murray falling off the map. BTW, Ryder is a +7 thus far, so while he's not lighting the lamp, he also is not killing the B's with crappy defense and lousy effort.
  2. Wow, no Jetesy this year, eh? 'bout fkn time they woke up.
  3. My point...or points...were two-fold. First, I was wondering who you thought would offer the $ you were suggesting he'll get and also I was asking you to clarify how many years you thought he'd get...you didn't answer. Second, I was questioning the prudence...not the likelihood...of such a deal. IMO, offering Manny something like $22m per yr for 5 yrs is a mistake for any team. It's not a matter of me liking such a deal or not...I could not care less...just think that's a ridiculous use of resources that could be utilized in better ways.
  4. I'm not convinced that they will be better next year. They had a lot of guys perform at very high levels...higher than anyone expected...some may revert to their norm.
  5. $100m? Over how many years? Any hunch as to who'll offer that? If someone gives him a 5 yr deal, you're talking about a 41 yr old player making $20m plus. While I'm sure some team is going to pay huge $ for him, once again I don't see the value, certainly not in a $100m + contract. Regardless of what a great hitter he is, who's to say he won't quit on his new team, too?
  6. funny, i wasn't just thinking the same different thing.
  7. That's a huge pick up. I was almost wondering if you were the GM for both teams and were screwing one team for the benefit of the other!!! That, IMO, is an extremely lopsided trade. As far as Brodeur going down, I think I'm less "lucky to be in 1st" than I am happy that I went after 3 good goalies in the draft and held off on trading one of them. Now I need a huge season out of both Lundquist and Thomas. No doubt, though, losing Marty was probably the biggest loss for any team in our league so far, since acquiring him in the first round meant foregoing so many other talented players. Bad break for me...we'll just have to let it play out and hope for the best.
  8. If you're talking about the Dallas game, damn right. I have no respect for players like Avery or Ott. Stickwork, dirty hits, always chirping, yet when challnged by a fighter they usually back down. In the B's game, they were disgusting and when Ott was being pummeled by Thornton no one on his team cared. In fact as those guys got bounced from the game, you could see the disgust on the Stars faces...I think they don't respect their own players. Avery finally dropped the gloves...against Ference! What a tough guy, eh? B's beat them in every element of the game. Love to see that.
  9. Wideman is actually playing very well. He is far from sucking. Boyes was given sufficient opportunity to succeed here, he showed flashes, but his level of consistency was weak, and his work ethic was in question...took too many shifts off, played no 'D' in his 06-07 year, as witnessed by his -17 +/- rating. It was a good trade for Boston, Wideman has given this team more than Boyes was giving them. What Boyes does outside of a B's uniform is of minimal importance at this point. The B's could use a D-man like Rafalski who can skate and lug the puck out of their zone. They do stuggle at times on the tansition game.
  10. Youk lead this team with 29 HRs in 2008. While the Sox still scored plenty of runs, I'm wondering in their Tex interest is in part due to fears of diminishing returns from Ortiz, and the desire to have a true basher in the line-up. I've not discounted the idea that they may not be all that interested in Texeiera and are intent on driving up his price.
  11. My choice would be Youk. Good combo of power numbers and average and OPS...combined with his fielding prowess, he's the MVP, IMO.
  12. Lincecum, best overall statline, IMO.
  13. Why do you need a slugging 3B? Ya have one already.
  14. Damn! At work they've boxed us out of any fantasy leagues, can't get in...and at home our internet isn't fkn working. WTF?
  15. poooooo-holez
  16. Was it his sparkling eyes or big hands that fueled your desire? Kidding, just kidding.
  17. Hey, speaking of Washington, anyone know the under/over on Nick Johnson's games played for 2009? 30/32? Something like that? Ya know, the guy played 38 games last year...he hit .220 but had an OBP of .415...pretty f***ing amazing, albeit over a short period of time.
  18. Timmy Thomas...back to back shutouts. He's one of my fantasy goalies (Melrose Mullets), and the way he's playing...and the way Manny isn't...I could be looking at him starting 65% of the games this year. Even a .500 winning % would mean 25 or more wins...not too shabby. I have the "good" problem now of not knowing which guy to start and having, at least once a week probably, a good goalie riding the pine while the other two play. May have to move one at some point.
  19. IMO, the Bruins still need a big time...and I mean BIG TIME...goalie. Thomas has performed admirably but he is no Brodeur/Lundquist/Luongo. Neither is, or will be, Manny Fernandez. Rask? Not sure, he's still only 21.
  20. I'm Melrose
  21. Timmy....he's my 3rd goalie on my fantasy team...nice to get a W and a SO from him this week.
  22. Upset at a patron's comment about the Sox? I'm callin' ******** on this one...in fact I think we all know what the truth is. Joba was really upset at the fact that the dancers at this backward-ass establishment in Shittown, Ne. wouldn't give him any play, thought they were too good for him...here's the dancers in question: The first girl to break his heart that night: http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t114/joyride161/HideousFatHickWoman.jpg Then came this beauty...she declined his advances and sent him nearly off the edge: http://boortz.com/images/funny/redneck_pics_tattoo2.jpg Then, once this dancer turned him down, it was all over. I realize it's not a girl...so did Joba...but he still thought the guy had a helluva set of tits: http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:WZZnpqEhdkfoVM:http://www.breakitdownblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/fat_redneck.jpg
