  1. Other contracts: Chara - through 2010-2011 Bergeron - 2010-2011 Savard- 2009-2010 The one that catches my eye is Savard...he'll be 33 when the contract ends and likely on the downside of a stellar Boston career...33, 34 seems to be the point of diminishing returns in hockey, with some exceptions. As a playmaker/less physical guy, he may hold up, but I believe the B's will need to find their next bigtime center. This is where scouting is so important...gotta find an Iginla/Getzlaf type of guy.
  2. I believe Axelsson's contract is up after this season. He could be walking, as I don't see the B's going longer than a year or two with him. Unrelated comment: Unless I've missed an extension to one of the following, both Manny Fernandez ($4.3m per year) and Tim Thomas ($3.3m per year) are in the last year of their respective contracts. With Thomas having a career year and Manny also playing well what do the B's do next year? Both are 34 years old. Is Rask ready to contend for the starting job? This is going to be a huge offseason issue for the Bruins. If Thomas wants to stay in Boston, I'd like to see a two year deal, with Rask coming into the mix more and more and taking the reigns in 2010-11 at the latest.
  3. Actually I think those of us who have followed the Bruins through all of the recent ups and downs DO appreciate what Axe has brought to the table. He's proven to be a defensive standout in the past. When I've seen him live recently, though, he looks to have lost a step...just doesn't look to be as tough to play against, thus my suggestion that Sobotka get a shot in that role. Downside is you are taking a chance...and if it ain't broke (i.e. the B's are winning) don't fix it may apply...so there'd be some risk in trying to upgrade that function with a new guy, as you've indicated. As for Yelle? He plays that same basic role, only IMO he plays it better than Axe at this point. Glen Metropolit is another guy I'd have suggested for the Axe role had they retained him. I'll cut Axe some slack for now and we'll see how he goes...my gut still says that he's approaching a point of diminishing returns.
  4. He ate Brian Cashman?
  5. someone who takes a nap with someone else?
  6. I understand what his role is and I think at least 2 other players can play it just as well...and offer a little offensive pop when the opportunity arose with some physical play to boot. IMO Axelsson is not the defender he was in the past either...but that's just my eyes speaking. Axe scored 10 goals in 59 games in 2005-2006, 11 in 55 games in 2006-2007, and 13 in 75 games last year. He has 1 this year in 27 games and is a -5. Just have a hunch that his days are numbered, as someone younger, faster, stronger will likely emerge in his role.
  7. Given the chance to play Axe's role I think both Sobotka and Nokie could handle it well.
  8. hmmm....I wish the best for him and hope this is accurate....but the timing makes me wonder.
  9. I'm glad you mentioned this because I thought the same thing. True...Axey showed some occasional O in the past but he's fallen off big time. Was always more of a defensive forward anyway, but now, in today's world of two way players, he's not really relevant. I can see a day not far from now where he's expendable.
  10. That he was given a pass to me really showed the supidity and hypocrity of teams, fans and the media. First he didn't do it...then he did it, but only twice, or something like that...then when he found out they had proof he did it more than twice, he upped his estimate...he coulda just said "yeah I did it...how much?...uhhh, equal to the lowest amount of times anyone can prove." Total f***ing lieing piece of s***.
  11. As example said: "Go ahead everyone, lambaste me, remind me that it is the owner's money and that they can spend as much as they want. Remind me that the Sox spend a lot too, blah, blah. That's all true; but no other team opts to spend above and beyond the luxary cap over and over, without regard for it and the blatent inefficiency that doing that reveals. " You conveniently ignored that he acknowledges that the Sox are one of the higher spending teams. Worse, however, is that you ignore...or simply don't understand...that the gap between the Yankees and everyone else absolutely dwarfs the advantage the Sox, Mets, Tigers, and teams in that $100m-$140m range have over the rest of baseball. Just using 2008 as an example, the Yanks had a payroll $76m higher than the Sox. Hmmm, let's see...that kind of coin can get you 4-5 AJ Burnetts or 3+ Sabathias...but "the Red Sox spend a lot too".....that's horseshit.
  12. Someone tell that kid it doesn't matter how he spells as long as people know what he was trying to spell..so he can stik that trofee up his buttox.
  13. Guys, I'm thinking of getting rid of Jim Rice's picture...what do you think of my new aviary: http://z.about.com/d/golondon/1/0/a/M/-/-/aviary.jpg Or should I go with the following avocado? http://heim.etherweave.com/weblog/archives/AvocadoPhoto.jpg Or, perhaps, would this avocet be appropriate? http://www.naturephoto-cz.com/photos/birds/eurasian-avocet-39210.jpg

  15. So you're saying that he dodged some bullets by guys not accepting some offers and by a guy exceeding expectations? Some truth to that I suppose. The win with Ortiz, though, I think shows good scouting by the Sox scouts, not luck. With regards to Pedro, I kind of think that the 3 yr offer was made deliberately below what he could get on the market, so that if it was big $$ he sought, he wouldn't sign, yet they'd have made a reasonable offer that if accepted wouldn't handcuff the organization long-term. Nomar...I actually agree...Nomar and his agent's greed were a blessing in disguise.
  16. OK, genius, I apologize. So enlighten us as to how he is so lucky?
  17. Good matchup, bro. Pavol Demitra paid dividends this week. If not for Lundquists 8 goal effort I mighta done some damage, but it's good to have a close one too. I just checked my matchup for this week. For the week my opponent has 48 active players...I think I have 42...that can make a difference.
  18. Great first post, seeing as there is no way to go but up from here. Nicely done...set the bar low from the outset. "avitor"...right.
  19. Posted this on speculaiton a few weeks back but with this most recent signing, it's official: If the Yankees do not win the World Series in 2009 it will be one of the greatest failures in the history of professional sports. There is no way they should not win it. Any additional big name signings will make anything short of a title that much more of a failure. It's almost like bringing a shotgun to a fist fight. If they do win it? Big fkn deal...they should have.
  20. Quite a shopping spree that would be for the '08 season....Sabathia, Pettite, Sheets. These f***bags would be tough to beat if all stayed healthy.
  21. $200+m payroll and a new stadium in 2009 and coming off a year that in which they failed to make the palyoffs (that's the failure part) and having no pitching staff (that's the desperate part as it relates to CC). Red Sox enter 2009 in better shape pitching wise (that's strength) and with some solid arms in the waiting and a reasonable offense with or without Tex. Also, remember, the culture behind the Sox and Yanks is different. The Sox can not win it and it's not the end of the world, there's long-term goals to address as well...the Yanks don't make the playoffs and they'll run out and spend more and more and more. Again, desperation. By the way, on the keyboard, the "e" is nowhere near the "i" and the "o" is a long way from the "a" ...doesn't look like a typo...so I think your "rediculas" is a ridiculously bad attempt at spelling a 5th grade word, Troll.
  22. Rician blast...Jim Rice was my farite player when I was growing up. I remember watching a game and he ripped on off the back wall in CF and the announcer referred to it as " a Rician blast" this the name. Guess I hit a nerve with BOY, eh? Truth hurts, I guess.
