  1. This game was Thomas in a nutshell. Fantastic for 95% of the game, lets in a softie in the 1st and has terrible position in the SO. For f***s sake, though, why was Recchi on the shootout team tonight?
  2. Why yes, your spending binge was just a tick shy of 3x what the Sox spent in the 2007 offseason. This isn't apples to oranges, it apples to f***ing pot roast
  3. You never answered my question, Gom. Does this title feel more hollow than the others?
  4. The fact that the Sox were 4th in payroll this season means nothing to you? The fact that the Red Sox were closer to the San Diego Padres than the New York Yankees means nothing to you? You want objectivity yet cannot produce it yourself.
  5. What's hilarious is that you think the two situations are comparable in the slightest. I love how everyone but Yankee fans realize the posting fee does not count as salary...and I love the fact that when you realize this you figure out that the Yanks paid more for Teixeira OR Sabathia than the Sox did for all three, in a better economic environment. Quite hilarious indeed.
  6. The same reasons people think SD is going to trade Gonzalez
  7. I find that surprising. What makes this championship special, in light of spending half the free agent dollars allocated to players last season? Anything less than this would have been a complete failure. So, weren't they really just maintaining what they were supposed to do?
  8. Hahaha
  9. Something tells me Cashman won't make the same mistake Theo did.
  10. I won't bother reading this thread. I'll ofer my congrats to the Yankee fans on the board, but I guess my question is does this feel a bit hollow to any of you? At all? I'd be interested in hearing some of the opinions...
  11. So, you're advocating throwing big money at Savard, who will also be entering his mid-30s to a very large contract, which will further their inability to lock up young, high-potential talent. And as I type, a weak, soft goal against Thomas. Who couldn't have seen that?
  12. Um, yes, it did. There's simply no way to justify giving a 35 year old goalie a 4 year deal with a $5m cap hit. The whole "Rask is inexperienced!!1" argument holds no water with me because you could sign a veteran on the cheap to split time with him. I've said it a million times, Thomas earned his money, it just shouldn't have been the Bruins who were paying him because they were so close to that cap and their real strength of last season, their depth, would be severely compromised. And hey look Trent Whitfield is playing in games for the Bruins this season.
  13. THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU SAID THOUGH JFC WHY IS THIS SO DIFFICULT TO GRASP
  14. No, management made the choice when they signed Thomas to that terrible, terrible contract.
  15. f*** that blow it up
  16. The Thrill is back tonight. Think this team could use him instead of Thomas?
  17. When proven wrong, get indignant. Chris Paul signed a contract worth 4/68. Chris Paul is a max contract player. Are you telling me you'd pay Rondo Chris Paul money? If so, the argument's pretty much done. You do know what eFG% is right? How it accounts for the difference in worth of a three pointer vs a two pointer? And how guard who get paid $11 million should typically be able to shoot the outside shot? There's not point in talking about them because they have no impact on the Celtics now or going forward. Why waste the time discussing them? You can draft a point guard. Why not bring in a guy like Raymond Felton with the MLE and try to sign one of the bigger name free agents in the 2010 offseason?
  18. What? Jason Bay is beyond terrible.
  19. Let me slow this down for you, because it's clear you just don't f***ing get it. Rondo would be the point guard through the end of the season and then you could find his replacement in the offseason. There are a lot of good young PGs in this league, and replacing Rondo with one of them for far less money could prove to be a wiser investment. You're obviously not as big of a Celtics fan as you make yourself out to be, otherwise you would know Gabe Pruitt isn't on the team anymore. So, if Rondo was holding out for a max contract, you would be an advocate for signing him, right? Because that's what it means when you say you want a player at any cost. Since the max offer you can give someone is, shockingly enough, a max contract, and you want him at any cost, it's clear you think Rondo would be worth a max contract. Logic can be so tricky sometimes... I think Rondo is a nice player. I don't think a player who is as good as you say posts a 43% eFG in the playoffs. I don't think a player as good as you say shoots 63.4% from the line when his game is predicated on driving the ball to the hoop and getting fouled. Rondo could have filled his role this season, and a replacement could be found. Contrary to what Tommy Heinsohn would have you believe, Rajon Rondo is an easily replaceable player. As for Jason Kidd, I must have missed the part where we were talking about bringing him to the Celtics...because I never advocated for that. What? "Good" players shouldn't get $11 million a season. Very, very overrated. Rondo isn't very good and takes far too many chances defensively. Really? His jump shot hasn't improved at all in the three years he's been in the league, and doesn't look to be improving at all. You'll have to tell me where the improvement is going to come from. Once again, he'd play out this season and you'd be able to use the money he'd make and the money from Ray Allen's contract to find a suitable replacement for both. Your point, for the umpteenth time, was that you felt Rondo needed to be on the team at any cost. I disagreed and you have not responded to that point, but shifted your argument to "WHO'S BETTER", which wasn't what we were discussing, at all.
  20. Yes. I won't listen to the payroll excuse this offseason.
  21. Your original point was we need him at any cost. I said he wasn't a max player. You said what Celtic PG is better. You can't see how you changed your argument? Just because Rondo is the best PG the Celtics have had in a while does not mean they have to commit this much money to him. Do I need to slow it down even further?
  22. What about starting Happ in game 6?
  23. That's not the point, stop changing arguments.
  24. You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. In no way shape or form is Rondo a max player.
