What are you talking about? Lowell is on the team already, and I'd rather they NOT pay him if they can find an upgrade. Uggla is an upgrade. Period.

Not my intention. At all. You know I enjoy the back and forth we have on this site. The Red Sox have to spend money because like you say, they are among those who feel the brunt of the unfair advantage the most.

You know what? Depending on other moves they make (landing a 1B or another SP), this could work. They've already got a massive upgrade in offense from C and I would expect them to have an upgrade over what we saw at SS for most of last season (even if Gonzalez comes back). Unorthodox, interesting idea, one that I had not considered, but makes a lot of sense if the team is beefed up elsewhere and Dye is signed for short money.

You siad it yourself in the other thread that the Yankees spending affects teams in their division more than any other....if the Red Sox want to entertain ANY ideas of making the playoffs they need to spend money. However, the Sox don't get the same credit as the Yankees do for lowering their payroll, right?

Huet's deal wa san abomination. If you want to look at that deal and say Thomas's doesn't look bad in comparison, then more power to you. As for Luongo, Lundqvist, etc....all have better or comparable numbers to Thomas or have won Cups, and those guys didn't sign a multi year deal at 35.

The same criticisms about Anderson not being able to handle a full season of work could have been said about Thomas before last season...before Thomas had a world-class defense in front of him.

Please present a list with these numbers. Maybe it's not signing Kessel, maybe it's re-signing Savard. Or Chara. Or Wheeler. All I know, is the Bruins overpaid for Thomas, and lost out on Kessel because they could not afford him.

There's no demand for a third team in NY. They need to do one of two things, it's pretty simple. One, institute a salary cap of anywhere from $80-$95 million. This will never happen because the contracts already in play would have to be restructured and the players union would never, ever, ever let that happen. Two, increase the penalty for going over the luxury tax. What the Yankees are paying now is a mere pittance to their overall revenues, and in no way is a deterrent to their spending. MLB should have the penalty be $5 for every $1 over the tax, or some factor like that. This has a much, much larger chance of passing because let's face it, only one team would be affected by it.

So after the Dodgers moved, you're telling me that New Yorkers didn't turn to the Yankees, especially during the height of their dominance (which is saying a lot for a team with 27 championships)? I find that very, very, very hard to believe.

Or, maybe it's simply due to the fact that the Yankees have a much larger fanbase due to their history in the largest media market in the country?
