  1. Which will be disappointing. Like last offseason, it would be a real shame for the Sox to sit idle and not use any of their financial capabilities. Signing Lackey to bolster their rotation would be a bold, bold move, one that could pay huge dividends.
  2. No one is saying the analysis wasn't sound. The simple question is why did the constant berating have to accompany it. I agree with e1 and Dipre in that Holliday is the superior player. The point I was trying to make with the post that got Dipre att upset was the fact that I though Dojji made a sound, solid argument, one that I had never considered before, while being insulted by Dipre. I know Dojji takes a bad rap on this board most of the time, and I'm sure from me a lot, which is why I wanted to commend him for his posts this afternoon. Nothing more, nothing less.
  3. Why can't you simply make these points without resorting to berating Dojji along the way? It's a simple question and it deserves a simple answer. Citing career numbers does not address Dojji's overall point about consistency on a year to year basis, which was an argument I had not considered until he brought it up, amidst being accused of making "Dojji-type arguments" (whatever that means).
  4. Here's the funny part about your post - I don't agree with Dojji. I think Matt Holliday would be quite the upgrade over Bay. However, most of that upgrade is defensive because I don't see Bay playing LF for more than two more seasons. Did you not see the post right above this one calling Holliday the better player? As for the Dojji snark, you'll have to re_post it because I missed it the first time. And evn then it doesn't give you carte blanche to throw out those childish one_line insults. Attack the post, not the poster, champ.
  5. Bay was hurt in 2007. Like Holliday's 2007, it's clear that is the aberration for the statistical baseline and not the rule. Dojji makes a lot of god points about the replication of numbers on a year in, year out basis, yet you opted to call him names instead of address those points. Holliday is a better player than Bay. Not sure he's worth the contract he will get.
  6. You are absolutely right. Now go through the gamelogs and giveme the instances where and out could be "productive" for Bay but he struck out instead, where puttingthe ball in play makes a discernable difference. I'd venture a guess to say it is less than 20 times. And I have to commend Dojji. He argued his point very, very well in this thread, even in the face of numerous instances of juvenile name_calling. I have to ask, if we can discredit Holliday's two+ months in Oakland, can wedo the same for Bay's time in Pittsburgh, which is a incredibly difficult place for RHH to hit? If Bay got to hit in Coors, methinks he'd come out on top of this offensive comparison.
  7. I disagree with Dojji's overall point, as I think Holliday would be quite an upgrade over Bay (taking defense into account) but I take exception to using strikeout numbers to prove a batter's "vulnrability" or whatever you want to cal it. A strikeout is worth the same as any other out. It's the same as a grounder to second, or a popout, or a flyball to the triangle. Bay was one of thebest hitters at not making outs last season...you want vulnerable, look at Ortiz, or Lowell, or anyone else with an OBP less than Bay's.
  8. the point is it has not worked for the pitching staff, ever.
  9. What is it about Jason Bay's offensive season that tells you he can't hit fourth? The over .900 OPS, leading all AL OF regulars? The 36 HRs? The 115+ RBIs? Please, enlighten me.
  10. Or, they could simply draft better and build around Gonzalez.
  11. The question is moot because the Sox won't sign both. Just because you wouldn't hit Bay 4th in that specific instance does not take anything away from the offensive season Bay had, or the offensive player he is. IOW, it's not his f***ing fault he didn't hit 4th in this lineup.
  12. Fair 'nuff. If you could get him for Kelly/Anderson/++ I'm all aboard that train.
  13. When the Sox had an historic offense, what a coincidence!
  14. Yes. It's your whole argument about Bay not being able to hit cleanup. It's asinine.
  15. And why the f*** would the new GM of thSan Diego trade Gonzalez to the Red Sox without getting Buchholz AND Kelly AND Anderson AND whoever else they want back?
  16. Stop moving the goalposts.
  17. If you can't tell the difference between raping your farm system vs giving the better player only money, then I don't know what to tell you. Teixeira for $$ >>>>>>>>>>> Gonzalez for four of our five best prospects, including Buchholz.
  18. Mike Lowell re-signed November 20, 2007. Past the 10 day exclusive period. He filed for free agency. Alex Rodriguez re-signed November 15, 2007. Past the 10-day exclusive period.
  19. Getting back on track, I voted none. Sox aren't going to rape their farm system for any one player, not even a Gonzalez, Ramirez, or Hernandez.
  20. List some type A free agents who signed with their teams within the exclusive period. I'll wait.
  21. Fully comfortable with a Gonzalez/Lowrie platoon.
