  1. Maybe the following sheds some light on this strategy: Top 5 Grad Rates for All Athletes Major Conference Schools Duke 90% Stanford 87% Northwestern 87% Notre Dame 87% Rice 82% Virginia 82% Missing from this list are all of the #1 through #3 seeds in this years tourney. You have to go to a #4 seed, Virginia, to hit this list. Duke's athletic program clearly has a focus not only on the sports themselves but also on the graduation of its athletes.
  2. When will this idiot shut the f*** up and just let his talent do the talking. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6567174?MSNHPHMA
  3. I'm not advocating giving him an extension based soley on what he did in '04, although it was nothing short of miraculous. Schilling has been a very successful pitcher wherever he went. Last year he managed to pitch well while the rest of the rotation was falling down around him. He is still a very good pitcher who has a lot to offer not only in his performance on the mound but also his teaching of the new young pitchers coming up through the system. $13M is a bargain after seeing some of the money given out this past Winter to lesser pitchers.
  4. I hate it when I make a post and people don't understand what was posted and make ridiculous replies: I didn't imply that Clemens can't have sentimentality, I implied that the Sox FO will not give him $20M plus for half a season base on sentimental reasons (he started his career in Boston and for sentimental reasons should finish it in Boston). If the FO disprespects Schilling by not offering him an extension what makes fans of Roger believe the FO has any inclination to sign Roger for sentimental reasons. It has nothing to do with the fans. s***, if the FO was concerned with the fans perspective, they probably would still have Petey and Damon under contract.
  5. And for those that still believe Roger Clemens will end up pitching in Boston this year because of some "sentimental value" to the team ......... I don't recall Roger ever being on the mound for the Sox while winning a WS.
  6. It seems not so many years ago, fans were bitching all the time about the lack of loyalty of players to their teams. It seems the tide has definitely turned.
  7. Crunch I agree with almost all of what you are saying, but JD Drew's dream to play in Boston? Nah, if the Royals would have paid him more than LA or Boston that transvestite would be sporting the Royal Blue right now 4 hours down the road from me.
  8. __________________________________________________________________________ New York Bank of Millionaires Bank and Trust Pay to the Order of: Curt Schilling The amount of Thirteen Million and no/100's dollars Memo: for pitching services to the NY Yankees in 2008 Signed: George Steinbrenner __________________________________________________________________________
  9. Does Cashman still have Bernie's phone number?
  10. ARod is the best shortstop in the league! The jury is still out on his 3B defensive skills. Offensively from 1 April to 1 October he is one of the best in the game, however, he wasn't brought to NY to get to the playoffs.
  11. I would have to throw Miguel Cabrera into consideration. His BA, SLG and OBP continue to increase each year, he is versatile defensively (OF and 3B) and plays for a pretty lousy team.
  12. Nice spin, but that was not his comment. He said nothing about average age he said they have old pitchers.
  13. Old pitching! Who has the oldest pitchers on their starting staffs the Sox or Yanks? Care to edit your post!
  14. So in addition to leading by example with a .317BA, 2000 plus hits, .314 post season BA, 200 hits per year, a rookie of the year, AS and WS MVP, 3 Gold Gloves, 1 silver slugger and appearing in the league MVP voting top 10 six times - he now needs to open up his personal life to the media and the fans and embrace A-Rod. Yeah, that's a great idea, let the media start spewing their BS about his personal life then the whole left side of the infield will be focused on what the media is doing and saying instead of concentrating on winning another championship.
  15. Jeter's comments yesterday were to the point in this whole issue. WTF does their personal friendship or lack there of have to do with their performance on the field. A-Rod knew when he signed with the Yanks that he would be the third baseman. Granted he is a better defensive SS than Jeter, but the situation in NY did not allow for A-Rod to play SS, Jeter is embedded there and will be until he decides to leave or retire. If A-Rod needs his $250M ego stroked in order to perform in the post season, maybe he should hire Dr. Phil to personally accompany him to playoff games. Jeter does his job as captain of the Yankees, he doesn't need to take up the personal struggles of his teammates. He leads on the field and that's what he is paid to do, period.
  16. Why would Clemens be interested in any long term financial arrangements in Boston? He already has a long term financial arrangement in Houston, his home. It doesn't make sense to me that he is already guaranteed a personal services contract in the Houston organization, and that he would scrap that for a personal services contract in Boston. He doesn't like to travel to road games now away from Houston, why would he want to travel to Boston continuously after he hangs up the glove.
  17. Touche
  18. Crunch Have I told you lately -- faaaak U
  19. or.... he saw how badly the Astros did in addressing their needs this off-season and jumped while he could.
  20. Exactly Crunch. And I already stated the Yankees spending since the late 90s on guys who didn't perform to their salaries is well documented. But in Wang's case, they finally got some extra bang for the buck. What caused Beckett to stop throwing that curve last year?
  21. Rician I wasn't the first one to bring this up.
