i remember that like it was yesterday do you remember the 1-56 with risp after the 8th inning?? these #s are based on jeters production in driving in runners after the 8th inning(with men on base)... if you think 2 career hits after the 8th inning is producing its no wonder why the yanks pay 16M to johnson 7M to wright 10M to pavano 19M to jetsey and mussian and 13M to damon you guys are very very easy to please

with the money management pumped into the left field bleacher seats, the right field roof boxes and the renovations outside yawkee way this team isnt going anywhere for the next 20 years minimum...minimum they sell out for the season by new years day now they have the most expensive tix in baseball now they generate the 2nd most revenue in the game the days of walking into fenway on a sunny saturday and grabbing 4 at the box office are long gone and they wont be back till they build a new ballpark....which aint happenin

millwood won the al era title last year hes solid, not great but very solid,he dont hurt himself. mussina pitched good again as well 2 runs wont beat texas the yanks losing matsui and sheff at the same time makes the offense rather tame despite having the reigning mvp,the comeback player of the year, the 54M dollar cf who now resembles the 1 armed killer from THE FUGITIVE and the best offensive catcher in the game..isnt cano hitting over .300 too? anyways the last thing that the yankees need right now is gary sheffield discovering that johnny damon makes more money than he does.... is this a contract year for sheff?? boy this could get fun

i went out of my mind when they traded arroyo for pena absolutley ballistic 2 months later i need to reevaluate my thinking im not 100% sold on pena yet and his work in right field scares the children but he has pounded the ball to the point where adam stern and mohr are now after thoughts rather than coco's replacements now when coco comes back we'll be in need of another gun and someone will be available do we move nixon who is a free agent? do we move the performing pena who's rather cheap do we move mohr and stern?? lots of questions but the good news is we're dealing from strength

1-56 with men on and a chance to tie after the 8th inning so is he a product of the ny media??
-
Derek Jeter had another moment at Yankee Stadium. A note from Rob Tracy of the Elias Sports Bureau on the Jeter hit: It was only the second hit of Jeter's career in the eighth inning or later that drove in the tying and go-ahead runs. The other was in 1999 (including the postseason). During Jeter's tenure on the Yankees, Jorge Posada has five such hits and Scott Brosius had four. Jeter has had 56 chances to drive in a tying and go-ahead run in the eighth or later. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=olney_buster#20060412 Bravo Derek. Bravo. sorry mj 1-56 is a stellar .017 and much better than the .016 i posted earlier however it does,in fact, include the post season this is the antithesis of a clutch performer and i find it incredibly awful

in my life i remember a couple of guys who you could count on religously to get big outs in the 9th tommy gordon had a great run as a closer here only to blow a save against cleveland in the playoffs,a game that pete schourek ended his career on. bob stanley was untouchable for a couple years back when closers came into the game in the 7th or 8th and pitched till the game ended dlowe had a monster year as a closer then nearly sent me to the bottom of the mystic river 1 long weekend in the bronx... lee smith would come in,walk the bases loaded then strike out the side he broke the nl save record the year we traded him for tom brunansky point im making is no one has stepped up as a young man like this kid has i believe some members of this forum are under the impression we can put anyone in this role and we'll have the same amount of success...im of the mindset that if it isnt broke dont fix it and that certainly applies to our bullpen, which has been outstanding so far
-
when you hit .016 for your career in the 8th and after with runners in scoring position i think its safe to disqualify you as being ""clutch"" regular season, october or march #s dont always tell the story but .016 speaks for itself not .116 not .216 no 0.016.....1for62.......let me get you the link im sure one of the sox fans has it saved somewhere as a screen saver
-
1-62 is accurate mj?? .016 the defense rests
-
we have the best in the business closing for us now we lost how many games over the last 10 years because we used a closer by committee?? world series in 75-86 we lost because we couldnt close out games we also lost in 03 because little didnt trust the bullpen now we have the man for the job and y'all want to move him because???........ because in 08 we have a possible rotation of.....hansen lester delcarmen and willis... who gives a f*** about 08 we have the tools to win it all this year and this is what we should be focusing on
-
i read somewhere that he was 1-62 this century with the chance to win the game after the 8th inning... any truth to this?? joe girardi was clutch bobby grich was clutch mark .210 belanger was clutch bernie is clutch ortiz is clutch billy mueller is the definition of clutch tony perez from the old reds team was clutch jetsey is a damn fine ballplayer who is an asset to any team he plays for but as defined by the above players performances he doesnt do it for me again i'd take him in a minute(not for 19M) but there are other guys like scott broscious(Sp) who i know we cant get out when it matters...jetsey is beatable when it matters
-
how can leaving papplebon in the pen be a mistake?? see his #s as a closer?? anyone in baseball have anything better than him?? why screw with the best closer in the game today?? why f*** with this kids amazing success? it makes no sense, none
-
sox hit 8hrs off him last season he lost to kc milwaukee tampa and the mets and sure he was 5-0 against us but lets face it he had 1 great start against us and it was in september i believe, the rest of his starts he was certainly beatable i saw him in may? when rent and payton took him yard and millar hit the top of the wall the sox won that game but somehow rj didnt factor in the decision. i was there in july when he beat us 7-4 and we left 10 on base in the 1st 6 innings and ran out of 2 innings with bases loaded gaffs....if i recall proper... hes randy johnson,a tall lean man who can no longer throw the slider or scare the s*** out of lefties or dominate the game as he once did. he'll get his wins based on experience, the yank lineup and the fact that there are some real s***** teams out there in baseball but lets not pretend hes an automatic W anymore because hes pretty much been removed from that status based on the last 2 years pitching in nyc
-
any idea where he ranked in making the 3rd out in the 9th inning last year??
-
i made the mistake of writing him off for dead last season he aint dead just yet however at 42,with his frame, its a miracle he can still walk erect
-
and you get him next year for a mere 16m 37m on next years payroll for rj wright pavano&vasquez and mussinas a free agent? the a's cant hit for s*** jarret wright shut them out when was the last time wright shut anyone out?? game 7 1997 in the bronx?? thats the last 1 i remember, seems like hes been dl'd since... rj?? hes got old timers disease he cant get warm in the ny spring. he did this last year as well, bounced back over the summer and pitched great then faded into the ny fall with a whimper this is about as good as it'll get for him i fear hes lost the kick in his slider he resembles an old man who lost his bus pass and is angry at everyone except father time, the real culprit here...im not saying hes done, hes got enuff experience to work 12-15 wins in that lineup...but against good pitching?? he'll need to regain some of that magic thats alluded him so far this season
-
DONT GET ME WRONG we'd love to have jetsey here as a shortstop hes certainly better than alex gonzales....hes a solid ballplayer hes good for the game, good for the yankees and good for ny i'd rather see arod out there at bat than derek but neither 1 of them frighten boston fans he also hasnt won s*** without paul oneil and tino and andy petite has he?? he does what hes supposed to do,occasionally does the outstanding and we need to thank him for diving into the crowd that nite in the bronx to illustrate how much of a dog nomar became.....
-
So.. who counts as "the greatest active postseason player" ? Ortiz, with his 3 playoff appearances? john smoltz comes to mind here bernie and posada i'd take for the money before ""the 2001 all star game mvp"" jeffrey maier?? jesus christ another proud legacy for yankee fans to fall back on didnt rudy make him mayor for the day?? and you wonder why the other 250,000,000 americans despise nyc youre not really comparing jeter with ortiz are you? i dont remember ANYONE ever getting ortiz out when it mattered i'd be willing to bet jetsey was in the top 5 in making game ending outs last year however
-
damn shame about shemp well theyve got a tremendous farm loaded with talent dont they?? melky and bubba and bernie and judas should be able to cover the vast green of the yanks outfield... now, instead of needing just a starting rotation and middle relief, they need a couple outfielders?? this is where sheffield can become a rather large pain in the ass for them
-
if you recall it was a 12 inning affair and we were playing for 1st place.. to show how sullen and miserable nomie was at the end consider this their shortstop busted his face open chasing a ball 5 rows in the stands and came out bloody our shortstop refused to pinch hit and sat by himself in the corner of the dugout??
-
pretty sure the 10+ and HOF criteria are for retiring a number, not the Sox HOF thats it i came on early just to talk mj off the roof matsui hurt...badly i may add every pitcher they used sans mussina got hit badly, very badly only some excellant defense in the outfield and several acts of God stopped another double digit beating 4 games outta 19 and the sox appear to better its may 12 i believe the only year since 1998 the sox werent in 1st place on 6-1 was......2004
-
Or the fact that Nomar was here for 7 and 1 half years. He won 2 batting titles, 5 time allstar and if not for injuries he would have been a hall of famer. He will probally go into the Red Sox hall of fame this dog will never appear in the sox halloffame for a variety of reasons bailing out on his teamates in the bronx on that july evening 2 years ago being 1 of them being too fukin stupid and too fukin greedy to accept 60m for 4 years being another.. then theres the criteria of having to spend your entire career in boston AND make mlb's hall of fame to become eligible for the red sox hall of fame
-
thats a fact damon cant put boston behind him unfortunetly for him and the team giving him 50+m you can sense the regret and its only a matter of time before his wife ends up in an R kelley golden shower video with sheffs wife mussina? outstanding effort in keeping ny alive till their bats woke up people this is why we love this game like we do,sure it was only 1 game but if boston shows up and takes out rj and moose in back to back nites in the bronx?? it may have cost someone a job rubber match today cant wait

May 9th @ New York

What's truly pathetic is how quick all the yank posters here disapeared once the game starting moving for the sox. It wasn't subtle---one minute they were here and the next--gone! mj will be here i assure you he came back after the sox swept the yanks in 04 and took his lumps like a man hes good like that the others i dont know well enough history shows us the yankee fan base is a mile wide and an inch deep you'll find many yankee fans who live outside ny also love the la lakers the dallas cowboys and the detroit redwings what a beating eh?? is it me or has rj lost his confidence??' he actually lowered his era last nite if you can believe that arod showed up.....didnt he 5 tool future hall of famer melky cabrerra showed up as well that team looked very very flat last nite its 1 game, thats all it is but man what a game it was -
anyone remember the last time billy beane won anything?? ya me neither he had three horses in zito hudson and mulder as well as foulke closing with giambi damon tejada terrence long and others, all in the same lineup and they won nothing they won s*** choking away a chance to sweep boston in 03 and putting ny away after clemens couldnt finish the 5th inning in 01.. a figment of the media is what billy beane is a man who got so much attention for being underated,he became overated in the process
