  1. nice, Pedroia makes solid contact in both ABs and picks up his 1st hit. I like this kid already
  2. nice rip by Pedroia but we got doubled up
  3. this is it, if we get through this inning, we will have 3 outs to save the season
  4. And to expand on hte Lester-bullpen thing, Lester has said that he cant pitch out of hte bullpen, I think because he needs more time to warm so its basically starter or nothing for him.
  5. Why are the sox using the A's approach? Because if you get enough talent like the A's had a couple years ago, a team like the Red Sox can afford to give contract extensions, and locking up young talented players for many years is how you sustain a winning team for a long period of time. FAs are necessary to sign to fill holes but to build just around signing and trading for long contracts doesnt work unless your the Yankees and gives a window of oppurtunity to win a lot less than developing your own talent.
  6. ok trading Lester for a CL is definetly not the route to go. Signing a FA would seem logical (whos going to be available?) or we could aquire one via trade. Mike Gonzalez is an interesting option though, id look into that if I was Theo.
  7. What move could Theo have possibly made that would make this a playoff caliber pitching staff? This team was WAY WAY more than one pitcher from being a good pitching staff.
  8. fuk this pathetic team, these are the not red sox, fuking A
  9. none of these clowns can throw a strike
  10. This might be one of the biggest ABs in Becketts career, we NEED to get Arod out here
  11. This offseason we NEED to aquire starting pitching. We have one, ONE SP who you pretty much know, most of the time he is going to pitch a good ballgame and thats Schilling. Beckett isnt there yet, im pretty confident hes going to get better and be a #1 we can rely on in the future but its not happening this season. Wakefield is normally reliable too, but hes getting older and we cant count on him for much longer, or Schilling (since hes retiring after next year), or Wells, or mediocre crap we throw out in the back of the rotation (Johnson, Clement, Snyder, Gabbard, etc.). Lester is going to be good, but again hes too young and inexpirienced to be expected to be a #3 in a pennant race in his rookie year. So whether its trading for a SP, or overpaying for Zito, whatever we need SP and thats what is bringing this team down, we cant expect to play catch-up every single night and expect to win. That said im in still, but any more 7 run SP performances and it may be time to look towards next year. We NEED to win some games in this series. NEED to.
  12. Coco in August, .333/.385/.500/.885
  13. This series was huge, coming in we were 3 games back and the Yankees were surging and the Sox had just got swept by the Royals, things were looking very bad. To come out with a series sweep and gain 2 games is huge. Ya the pitching wasnt great but our two best SPs didnt even start in the series, Wells showed us he can still pitch and Jason Johnson accounted for almost half the total runs allowed in the series. This was big and hopefully with Schilling and Beckett coming up we can step it up.
  14. Not worried at all, CLs give up runs like that all the time, this is just the first time its really happened this year so were not used to it
  15. With Liriano gone for a while, it appeared that Papelbon would have a chance to lock up the award coming down the stretch. But he allowed 2 ER in one game and that nearly doubled his ERA, so he went from potential best relief season ever to really good season. But the problem with that is that Papelbon had to pitch historically good to beat Liriano, but with Liriano potentially out of the picture theres the other canidate, Verlander. So it depends, Verlander is 2nd in the league behind Liriano in ERA and tied for 1st in wins (which voters love), but will they pick Papelbon over him now that Papelbon doesnt have that .55 ERA going for him? I sure hope so, but this outing severly hurts his chances most likely and its unreasonable to think hes not going to allow a single run over the course of the entire season, so his ERA should stay around 1.00 or so. Thoughts on the new twist of events in the race?
  16. damit papelbon we cant lose these games
  17. Tavarez sucks. Papelbon is not so fuking intense today. And we cant even win a series vs. the fricken Drays. That is f*cking pathetic
  18. we really need Lopez right now, and if were only giving up Alvarez than that would be a good move
  19. is this Lopez's last year of his contract?
  20. OMG ORTIZ IS THE FUKING MAN! :ortiz:
  21. if Nixon is gone for the year then we may have seen Trot for the last time as a Red Sox.
