  1. Greene is an interesting guy that would fill a need as part of a deal (with Peavy). Hes young, cheap, plays good D, and outside of Petco he had an .860 OPS anda .850 OPS outside Petco over a 3 year span.
  2. I dont like how we'd be including Buchholtz. Manny and Youk for Tex and Arias is ok and fits in pretty good. Lineup would be 1. Crisp CF 2. Arias SS 3. Ortiz DH 4. Tex 1B 5. Drew RF 6. Pena LF 7. Lowell 3B 8. Varitek C 9. Pedroia 2B
  3. most likely many more quality bats will come through the trade market/ FA market over the next year or two than top tier starters so I think if you can get Peavy, you do it.
  4. no big deal. Its not like hes going to call out Manny and tell him to gtfo like im sure some teammates might feel about Manny, obviously trading Manny will weaken the team in the short term but make us stronger in the long term
  5. We need pitching from whoever trades for Manny. Heres a chance for us to grab one really good pitcher/CL and a couple other pieces. If the Dodgers would offer Broxton, Billingsby and maybe even another player for Manny + cash then I think you do that. Finish up deals with Drew and Lugo (unless we can find some other SS) and sign Okajima. And that leaves you with a roster of: 1. Crisp CF 2. Lugo SS 3. Drew RF 4. Ortiz DH 5. Youkillis 3B 6. Pena LF 7. Lowell 3B 8. Varitek C 9. Pedroia 2B 1. Matsuzaka 2. Schilling 3. Beckett 4. Papelbon 5. Billingsby CL Broxton Set-up Okajima? MR Delcarmen MR Wakefield MR Timlin Mop-up Hansen? Lopez? there you have some decent arms pieced together in the pen, a killer young rotation and an ok offense. The offense may need to add another bat but with a ton of payroll flexibility with a Manny trade, and added prospects we have some pieces to deal should we need to upgrade somewhere.
  6. I wouldnt mind bringing Foulke back, but the FO thinks otherwise it appears. He pitched well when he came back and had an ERA of about 2 after the ASB. It really wouldnt surprise me at all if Foulke comes back and posts an ERA under 3 for some team.
  7. come on guys we arent getting peavy, linebrink AND gonzalez for manny and lowell, no way. We'd be lucky to get Peavy and linebrink if even that. Not that I wouldnt mind that mentioned trade but its completely unrealistic.
  8. id pretty much trade anyone for Pau except Paul. Id prefer not to trade Green, but you do what you gotta do. And we havent had a good bigman in a long time
  9. I like the Cubs chances if they can pull this off. A center of the lineup with Soriano-Aram-Lee will cause some damage. And if Prior-Zambrano-Schmidt stayed healthy they could be good.
  10. speaking of sinkerballers, Derek Lowe has had two nice seasons with LA, that 9mil per year sure looks a lot better now than when he originally got that contract
  11. Santana, Sweeney and a MR (thornton, or tracey, etc.)would work for me, but idk about the white sox
  12.
  13. gammons mentioned the white sox as possible canidates for Manny
  14. why would we make Kolb the CL is we have Shields and where is Mike Lowell?
  15. id much rather keep crisp, billingsby and hansen than trade him for Jones
  16. I dont see much with SD and SF. SF has like nothing except Matt Cain, without him I dont see how a deal gets done. SD would have to give a lot more than Linebrink. Adrian Gonzalez, Merideth are interesting guys also along with Peavy obviously. The Dodgers have a lot to offer, I would love to get Billingsby, but if you cant get him they have Loney, LaRoche, Broxton, Elbert and Kemp.
  17. hi
  18. You just took Drews entire career average of games per year and said thats how much we are going to get each season. Look at his last 3 years and yes he missed significant time in 05 but not from injuries we should have to worry about moving forward. If we got Drew for 140-150 games a year it represents a huge upgrade over Pena. If you go by win shares and say Pena puts up similar numbers as last year(unlikely that he'd sustain that over a full season at this point in his career, but Ill give him the benefit of a doubt) and say Drew puts up similar numbers as last year, a year of Drew is probaly a 7-8 win upgrade over Pena. Thats huge, our offense flounders at times because of a lack of a good option behind Manny and Ortiz, and Pena just isnt ready to shoulder the load of protecting Manny Ramirez.
  19. what exactly does Trot do for us?
  20. then the Yanks dont get Johnson, simple as that.
