I think we might be able to get by with that only because Rubby is getting some good experience this year, and I believe that he no longer has rookie status. If one of those guys goes down and we have 2 rookies in the rotation for an extended time, that would be hard to weather.
I think we all want this to happen. If not exactly this, something comparable needs to get done. In addition to adding 2 top of the rotation guys, they can't break camp with 2 or 3 roolkies in the rotation. That will just not work.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that Bradley's performance is terrible even in the context of 1965. Whether league offense today is the same, better or worse than 1965, Bradley's performance is still really bad.
There is no comparison between Bradley and those guys. First of all, each of them broke into the majors in a pitching dominated era before the mound was lowered. In Boomer's rookie season, he hit 27 homers. Reggie smith hit 15 homers in his rookie year and Rico hit 13 homers. Each had OPS ed over .700. Bradley is OPSing at .571. He is the most over-hyped rookie that I can remember. With regard to CF, my optimism is that Victorino will be healthy in 2015.
The rumor about the trade demand was certainly out there. Neither side will confirm that information, so if people are looking for proof they will not get it. But as you have said before, where there is smoke there is fire. Here, there was a lot of both. He got traded.
People tend to think that a guy as athletically gifted as Bradley will learn to become an adequate hitter. It is hard to comprehend that a guy that can field so well is so inept with the bat. It has always puzzled me. I have seen a few of them-- Mark Belanger and Buddy Harrelson to name a couple. The best CFer that I saw play was Paul Blair. Although he was known for his glove, he was proficient with the bat before he got beaned. After he got beaned, he was still much better than AOJ has been.
First of all Jacko, you are a doctor in the early stages of your career and you have a young family, so basically, you have no buddies anymore. So, do not try to get the hopes up of the weak-minded who will be crushed when he signs elsewhere.
I am just wondering. What kind of major league career did that guy have. The were some Shortstops in the 60's that carried around .210 batting averages.
He's horrifyingly bad. They should give him a chance to rebuild himself in the minors. Middlebrooks need to establish consistency in the minors. He is up here flailing like a blind man at a swarm of bees.
