People tend to think that a guy as athletically gifted as Bradley will learn to become an adequate hitter. It is hard to comprehend that a guy that can field so well is so inept with the bat. It has always puzzled me. I have seen a few of them-- Mark Belanger and Buddy Harrelson to name a couple. The best CFer that I saw play was Paul Blair. Although he was known for his glove, he was proficient with the bat before he got beaned. After he got beaned, he was still much better than AOJ has been.
First of all Jacko, you are a doctor in the early stages of your career and you have a young family, so basically, you have no buddies anymore. So, do not try to get the hopes up of the weak-minded who will be crushed when he signs elsewhere.
I am just wondering. What kind of major league career did that guy have. The were some Shortstops in the 60's that carried around .210 batting averages.
He's horrifyingly bad. They should give him a chance to rebuild himself in the minors. Middlebrooks need to establish consistency in the minors. He is up here flailing like a blind man at a swarm of bees.
We are all very aware of his defense. But as Kruk said on Sunday, if you can't hit, you can't play. It is as simple as that. A guy that strikes out 150 times and hits 1 HR is not going to play even if he has 2 gloves.
No one disputes Webster's stuff. His command needs improvement and his heart is in question. The are low pressure games, so they aren't the best measure. I hope that if he does well that they use him as a trade chip and get some value.
One thing to note is that Lester expressed a desire to "stay" in Boston. Undoubtedly, he didn't want to uproot his family. He didn't want to stay because he enjoys the traffic patterns in and around the Boston area or because he loves the fans. Now that we have uprooted him and his family by trading him, they will see and live in a new place for a couple of months. Maybe they decide to put down roots elsewhere.
I also hope that it doesn't come down to losing another of our homegrown stars to the Yanks. I have had enough of that, and I will not care about any BS rationalization that they float in the press. Lester could have been locked up in Spring Training with a reasonable deal. They offered him F.U. Money and it probably pissed him off. Now, he will probably give them an F.U. and sign elsewhere. If he signs with the Yankees, Red Sox Nation had better stock up on KY jelly because it will be painful getting beat by our 2 former heros wearing Yankee uniforms.
