  1. Chone Figgins was a natural second baseman that played a lot of 3rd for the Angels. He didn't have much power either, but he was an offensive catalyst.
  2. The possibility of firing Farrell has been discussed by some people recently. Some people think that it would be scapegoating. Maybe the player friendly approach was only an effective motivational tool for one year as a reaction to Bobby V's egotistical arrogance. What I have not seen is an analysis of some statistics. I think that we have lost the most 1 run games, and yesterday, I heard that we lead the league in extra inning losses. We can't blame these things on the back of the bullpen, because they have been very effective. One run games and extra inning games are where managerial tactics can be a deciding factor. If our players were more effective at bunting, maybe that couldd have helped. Maybe some hit a runs. On the other side, we made a ton of stupid outs on the bases. These thing can make a difference. Edit: The Yankees have scored 9 more runs than the Red Sox and they are only marginally better in ERA ranking and run differential ranking, but yet they are 12 games better than us in the loss column. I think that has to be attributed largely to the managers.
  3. There is no guarantee that Pedroia would be a good 3B either, so I'd rather not weaken the team at 2 positions.
  4. Prior to 2014, XB, Bradley and WMB probably would have been enough to get Chris Sale. THe FO thought they had 3 Gold Star prospects, and now we are left with a project in XB and 2 bags of trash.
  5. Without power production, the guy is pretty much a zero. Load him on the moving van with Webster.
  6. I wouldn't take the gol glove guy off second. I'd put Mookie at 3rd.
  7. They have been shutout 12 times this season with a month left to go. Disgraceful.
  8. Sometimes it is called for, and a change at the helm changes the direction of the team. It was the right thing to do after 2012.
  9. I don't know why Ben is wasting his time with this trade. What is the point of getting back Ivan dejesus. He's a zero as is jemile Weeks.
  10. I think Holt is the far better player at this juncture. He deserves the chance to compete for the 2015 SS job. XB has done zero to warrant making him the incumbent.
  11. Webster is never going to be a big league starter. He is not going to contend for the 2015 rotation. The only decision for the Sox is whether they can get someone in return for him with some value or whether he is worth more as minor league roster fill.
  12. if they are going to pay him $13 million in 2015, they are going to have him in their plans unless they trade him.
  13. i share this same concern. After bombing out with Bradley, I expected that they would look for a bona fide proven guy. If they were going to roll the dice again, I thought they might roll the dice with Betts as the CFer and save the money for pitchers.
  14. Maybe Holt will be the SS in 2015. I think that is his natural position. Plus, XB's fielding was not impressive at SS. What do you think of Bradley's future prospects with the Red Sox? It seems that he missed his opportunity. With the Sox signing Castillo, obtaining Cespedes and Craig, and converting Betts to the OF, there is no room for Bradley. Let's not forget that we still have Victorino too.
  15. Crapuano has been pitching very well for the skanks.
  16. He's light yearsvbetter offensively than Bradley.
  17. Third base should be an open position. Middlebrooks is on the fast track to palooka-ville.
  18. it would be nice to see him step up and compete for a rotation spot in 2015.
  19. The Red Sox are not going to lower their ticket prices. Ticket sales at the current prices are built into their revenue projections, but the truth of the matter is when people pay premium prices for a product they expect premium quality. A 90+ loss team is not a quality product. If they have horseshit seasons like this too frequently, people will not go to the games in the large numbers to which the organization has become accustomed. Their revenue stream will start to fall short of their projections. They will in response take actions to improve the revenue stream, i.e., construct successful teams within a reasonable budget (much higher than that of most teams) to maintain their revenues. They have no choice but to put out a competitve product, because they don't want to hurt their profits. s***** small market teams charge less for tickets necessitating smaller payrolls so they can make money. People in these smaller markets have lower average incomes, but they are still willing to plunk down $10 to see a losing team. In a big market like Boston where incomes are higher, the consumer still has a price point at which he/she will not be willing to pay to see a lousy team. Those people could opt for an enjoyable dinner in a fancy restaurant for their $200 instead of watching a frustrating poorly played game by the Sox. It's not that complicated of a concept. Different cities have different markets. The teams in those markets set their ticket prices at a price point that will optimize revenue. Why the heck are we discussing ticket prices anyway? This is a sports talk forum. We should be talking about the product on the field and how to improve it.
  20. Other than your post, I didn't see other posts discussing ticket prices.
  21. Maybe Daniel Bard can get Bradley a part time job at the gas station where Bard pumps gas.
  22. It just seems like more. Losing does that. He actually gave up more home runs last year.
  23. Tazawa has been disappointing this year. He gives up too many long balls for an 8th inning pressure guy.
  24. I am not following this. ^ Had there been a discussion of how ticket prices are set?
