  1. This one you should put on ignore. The baseball content of his posts is outweighed by the nastiness.
  2. I knew what Fred meant, and if I didn't, he clarified what he meant.
  3. Where is your home in Fla -- east or west coast? I am lookingto retire soon myself.
  4. Block some posters if they irritate you, especially those who get their ya-yas when they get under your skin. Don't let the terrorists win.
  5. Castillo is a wild card. We really know nothing about him. Even the Red Sox are just taking an educated guess on how he will perform. If Victorino bounces back, Castillo's performance will not be so critical.
  6. I hope that the kid has been getting a lot of work in over the off-season. That is the only way you get the footwork down. He needs reps to help him on his reactions off the bat. He was very poor at charging balls. If he looks like an awkward pup in Ft. Myers, I will be very concerned. Until then, I will assume that he is developing his game.
  7. LOL!! Lighten up. He called you a meatball. That is far more refined than what most of us have called each other at one time or another.
  8. Papelbon has not been the Phillies problem. The rest of that team hasfallen apart and aged in dog years. Paps has earned his $. I'll never understand why some Sox fans hate him. He was a great comfort coming out of the pen, even when he was struggling. Koji had an all-time great season. It was incredible to watch, but it was just one season.
  9. Do you live in Florida? I disgree with you about the Grady Little game 7. In fact, if I was within 100 yards of him at that time, the cops would have had to pull me off of him. That being said, it is all just opinion here. Some people here insist on capitulation-- not too many thankfully. Spud is definitely not one of them. Don't make a few nasty exchanges make you leave the board. As for bullpens, their use has evolved throughout the years. I think they will continue to evolve. I don't think it is farfetched to think that multiple inning relievers like Goose Gossage will not emerge and then their success will be copied. Whitey Herzog had some interesting ideas that were and would still be considered radical that he never implemented. He felt strongly that the best use of pitchers was to change the pitcher every 3 innings and pitch guys more often. Of course, the players union would go nuts. That would tank the market for starters.
  10. Embry, Tomlin and Williamson were lights out that post season.
  11. The SS is still going to get the bulk of plays in the infield whether or not a team uses shifts. Use of shifts will not help a ShortStops fielding deficiencies. In fact it might highlight certain weaknesses. XB's footwork from the standard shortstop position is not good. Occasionally, when in the shift a shortstop has to turn a DP from the other side of second base requiring the footwork of a second baseman.
  12. The problem with the Pedro game in 2003 was that Grady had been taking him out after 7 innings and 100 pitches all season long. His stuff had been falling off a cliff after that. He got out of a jam and clearly was on empty and he was taking his congratulations in the dugout. Also, the argument is not whether starters should be removed from games. A good manager needs to know when the starter is done. I think the argument is centered on 1 inning or multiple inning relief specialists. Most teams don't have 3 quality arms in the pen, but no managers push the end of the bullpen guys more than an inning. It 's a great formula to mix and match in the 7th inning and to have an 8th inning specialist and a closer, but if you don't have the horses managers should not be forcing the formula.
  13. I can believe it. Everyone wanted to see the new baby, and there must have been gifts and wrapping paper everywhere.
  14. Shepherds are great dogs.
  15. The cost of the game pax (4 games) is just a little higher, but they went to dynamic pricing for individual game tickets. Most Weekday grandstands are cheaper than lasy year at $38, but those same seats for a Yankee weekend game are $78 close to 50% more than last season.
  16. Big dog. Is it a Muskie or Shepherd. The photo is small a hard for me to see.
  17. Nice dog in your avatar.
  18. Shifts are always fads. They started in the 1940's with the Boudreau shift on TeddyBallgame. The shifts of today made popular by genius, Joe Maddon and copied by everyone will start to fade. Moving everyone to one side of the diamond should be done sparingly and only against the games best power hitters. Even if they decide to take the ball the other way, you take their strength away. You'll cede the single to keep the ball in the yard. The trouble is that there are only a few hitters who are that dangerous, yet the shifts are done much more than that. The rest of the league who are not big thumpers will learn to take the singles. Also, pitchers will start to get fed up with it because in many ways it takes away the outside part of the plate when the pitcher gets 2 strikes on a hitter. Nothing pisses off a pitcher more than getting ahead 0-2 and having the guy get a cheapie the other way that fielder would have caught but for the shift.
  19. congratulations on this blessed event!
  20. Merry Christmas!
  21. It's pretty hard to cover for a bad SS. The quality of the SS makes or breaks your IF defense. If your SS stinks, you need big strikeout pitchers, not a bunch of sinkerballers.
  22. Gary has to go, He brings nothing to the table.
  23. The thought that the current configuration of our starting staff can yield consistent success is wishful thinking at best. Porcello can be a solid #3 with a ceiling of a #2 if our IF fielding is top shelf. With the rest, we have a pair of 4's and 5's. If Buch comes out of the gate 11-0 like in 2013,that would be a game-changer, but why would they let a whole season ride on such a crapshoot? Maybe Masterson is healed and regains his velocity. If he does, he is a solid #3, but again, what we get from him will be unpredictable. A top guy is needed. We have the money. He needs to get a number one. It is as simple as that. This offense is much improved, but it will not be a wrecking crew like the 2003-2007 teams. We will need to consistently bludgeon peple with this pitching. That is always hard to do, and we don't have that kind of deep lineup.
  24. They are both Italian.
  25. lol!! You make a point, but I still prefer Heidi to Jenny.
