  1. "Sucking and cleaning ass" is homophobic? Hmmm. I don't get that. Crude? Yes, but homophobic? I know gay people that express themselves in graphic, crude sexual terms.
  2. I am gone from the site for a couple of days and there is a childish flame war. Is anyone surprised who is in the middle of it. The same misanthrope who has been in the middle of all of these things. Of course his wingman takes up his cause to fan the flames. But everyone else is the problem...right. The adults seem to be content to discuss baseball.
  3. Hello you bitter children who hate adults. I had a ton of fun enjoying the Super Bowl at the Borgata casino. Such an exciting game. The patriots were already my second favorite team for losing two Super Bowls to my Giants. Well, that last second interception put the Patriots close to being neck and neck with my Giants as my favorite, because 8 for the Pats and 4 for Seattle gave me the winning box in a $100 box pool. Sweet. You may say that I am part of FOM if it makes your miserable lives feel worthwhile. I am going to collect my winnings tomorrow and put them away for my upcoming Spring Training trip -- my 13 consecutive Spring Training. I am smiling from ear to ear. But yet as happy as I am and as much as I love my Red Sox, my observation is that our rotation is very mediocre at best. It is thin, without depth and not at all flexible. Maybe it is " projectible" whatever that means. Sounds like a fancy word that means nothing in this context.
  4. True. They have had better luck with relievers. Let's hope they don't use Ogando to start.
  5. I can think of years where we had a small shopping cart of these damaged injury rebounding pitchers -- John Smoltz, Brad Penny, Aaron Cook, and Vinny Padilla among others. I can't remember any instances of these dumpster dives working out. The harm that occurs is when these broken piles of junk take the mound and ruin games.
  6. People keep saying that they can assess their pitching needs after the season starts. I just don't see that as a realistic option. The last time the Red Sox added a significant starter during a season was ss MVP mentioned, Mike Boddicker around 25 years ago. It's just not that easy to add top pitching during the season.
  7. Lottery Tickets are cheap because they are incredible long shots,
  8. There is nothing flexible about our rotation. We have 5 starters, none of which is an aces and none which projects to be an ace. As has been pointed out by other posters, there is little pitching depth that can be turned to in our minors to step in if the oft-injured Buch and injured Masterson go down. That depth which had been Ruby, Webster and Renaudo are all gone. I don't understand the confidence that we will be able to add to the staff in-season. Our track record over many seasons proves that it is not easy to improve your staff in-season. As for the "more projectible" comment, I don't even know what that means and how this staff would be "more projectible" than a staff with a big horse pulling our wagon.
  9. I agree, but a team with a payroll over the luxury cap should have a pitching rotation that is more than a crap shoot.
  10. I always heard my Dad's generation talk about the graceful style of Joe D., but I can't imagine a more graceful player than Freddie Lynn. He made the spectacular look routine. It broke my heart when he and Fisk left.
  11. A lot would have to go right to be in this position. I would say that it is a long shot that Buch and Masterson stay healthy and perform as top of the rotation pitchers. Also, I can see Porcello as a solid #3 with the possibility of raising his game to a #2, but it is a very long shot that he performs like a #1.
  12. That's the last and best one that I remember. I don't think it is realistic to think we will land a stud mid season.
  13. It would be the first time that I can remember if we acquire an ace during the season.
  14. I was just joking, but the free for all Friday forum is a good idea.
  15. It is just not a sure thing that the current pitching will keep the team in the race even with an improved offense. Losing Lackey and Lester is quite a void to fill. The current group is no guarantee to keep us competitive. Also building on pitching during the season by adding an ace isn't that common for the Red Sox. I can't remember when we added that kind of piece to our team mid-season.
  16. or if Masterson and Buch fall apart out of the gate and Miley and Kelly pitch to career norms, we could be out of the race by the trading deadline.
  17. You people visit other Red Sox boards? Traitors! I shall report you to the authorities.
  18. The tickets sell out almost immediately after they go on sale. Nevertheless, it is not that difficult to get into the games if you don't buy advanced tickets. One time I made an inquiry of the ticket office in Fort Myers. They told me that at a certain time each day the visiting team turns in their unused tickets for that day's game which will then go on sale. The official told me that there is no problem getting tickets if you are at the ticket window at that time. Before going, I would call to inquire when they expect to make the visiting team's tickets available. Also, there are tickets available from scalpers in the parking lot. Even though you will be paying a premium, they are still cheaper than Fenway tickets. Finally, starting a couple of days before the game you can get some good deals on game tickets on Stub hub. The best values can be found the day prior to the game. Let me know if you decide to make the trip.
  19. I think you and Fred have gotten to the point where you can co- moderate the board.
  20. The problem with me in real life is that I see almost nothing as black and white. I believe little of what I read to be fact and consider news to be more of a story crafted to benefit someone or something. When I read or hear the news, I am constantly trying to figure out why an item is a story and who does it benefit. Of course those things are as hard to prove as whether or not "clutch" exists so I keep most of those opinions to myself, except for FB friends. As for meeting in a group, that's a good idea. Pal is in the area as is Spud and SFF (He has been on hiatus). Maybe when some of the other out of towners are in town, we could all meet. I am sure that it would be fun, and I am pretty sure that in most cases people will not be who we expected them to be based on TalkSox interaction. If SCM would like to join, that would be fine too, even though he is now a Cubbie fan. Heck, I'd like to meet Jacko too.
  21. Thank you for asking. Everything is fine, and thank you for reminding me about Fort Myers. That always lifts my spirits.
  22. This is one of those trades where one team will get the better of the other team. This is not the trade of a pitcher for a position player or of one postion for another position, where you could argue that the trade benefitted both teams. It's not a trade of a big money veteran for a cost controlled young guy where you could say that both teams benefitted. These guys are the same age with limited MLB service, and both are pitchers. Someone will win this trade.
  23. I'm just a little cranky today. The weather is getting to me. BTW, I think 60 win seasons frustrate most of us, maybe even including you , although you call them 60 win seasons I call them 90 plus loss seasons.
  24. Fair enough. You don't seem like a barrel of laughs to me either.
  25. First of all Pal, you don't know me so you you couldn't know the difference between you and me. Second, is the rule going forward that you can criticize the FO but I can't? Are those the rules of engagement?
