  1. I always heard my Dad's generation talk about the graceful style of Joe D., but I can't imagine a more graceful player than Freddie Lynn. He made the spectacular look routine. It broke my heart when he and Fisk left.
  2. A lot would have to go right to be in this position. I would say that it is a long shot that Buch and Masterson stay healthy and perform as top of the rotation pitchers. Also, I can see Porcello as a solid #3 with the possibility of raising his game to a #2, but it is a very long shot that he performs like a #1.
  3. That's the last and best one that I remember. I don't think it is realistic to think we will land a stud mid season.
  4. It would be the first time that I can remember if we acquire an ace during the season.
  5. I was just joking, but the free for all Friday forum is a good idea.
  6. It is just not a sure thing that the current pitching will keep the team in the race even with an improved offense. Losing Lackey and Lester is quite a void to fill. The current group is no guarantee to keep us competitive. Also building on pitching during the season by adding an ace isn't that common for the Red Sox. I can't remember when we added that kind of piece to our team mid-season.
  7. or if Masterson and Buch fall apart out of the gate and Miley and Kelly pitch to career norms, we could be out of the race by the trading deadline.
  8. You people visit other Red Sox boards? Traitors! I shall report you to the authorities.
  9. The tickets sell out almost immediately after they go on sale. Nevertheless, it is not that difficult to get into the games if you don't buy advanced tickets. One time I made an inquiry of the ticket office in Fort Myers. They told me that at a certain time each day the visiting team turns in their unused tickets for that day's game which will then go on sale. The official told me that there is no problem getting tickets if you are at the ticket window at that time. Before going, I would call to inquire when they expect to make the visiting team's tickets available. Also, there are tickets available from scalpers in the parking lot. Even though you will be paying a premium, they are still cheaper than Fenway tickets. Finally, starting a couple of days before the game you can get some good deals on game tickets on Stub hub. The best values can be found the day prior to the game. Let me know if you decide to make the trip.
  10. I think you and Fred have gotten to the point where you can co- moderate the board.
  11. The problem with me in real life is that I see almost nothing as black and white. I believe little of what I read to be fact and consider news to be more of a story crafted to benefit someone or something. When I read or hear the news, I am constantly trying to figure out why an item is a story and who does it benefit. Of course those things are as hard to prove as whether or not "clutch" exists so I keep most of those opinions to myself, except for FB friends. As for meeting in a group, that's a good idea. Pal is in the area as is Spud and SFF (He has been on hiatus). Maybe when some of the other out of towners are in town, we could all meet. I am sure that it would be fun, and I am pretty sure that in most cases people will not be who we expected them to be based on TalkSox interaction. If SCM would like to join, that would be fine too, even though he is now a Cubbie fan. Heck, I'd like to meet Jacko too.
  12. Thank you for asking. Everything is fine, and thank you for reminding me about Fort Myers. That always lifts my spirits.
  13. This is one of those trades where one team will get the better of the other team. This is not the trade of a pitcher for a position player or of one postion for another position, where you could argue that the trade benefitted both teams. It's not a trade of a big money veteran for a cost controlled young guy where you could say that both teams benefitted. These guys are the same age with limited MLB service, and both are pitchers. Someone will win this trade.
  14. I'm just a little cranky today. The weather is getting to me. BTW, I think 60 win seasons frustrate most of us, maybe even including you , although you call them 60 win seasons I call them 90 plus loss seasons.
  15. Fair enough. You don't seem like a barrel of laughs to me either.
  16. First of all Pal, you don't know me so you you couldn't know the difference between you and me. Second, is the rule going forward that you can criticize the FO but I can't? Are those the rules of engagement?
  17. Plus, I don't care if UN is King Kong or Julk Hogan. That doesn't change the fact that he is an internet bully.
  18. You won't even meet me for a drink. LOL!
  19. I just don't see how you could be questioning them on a transaction that is so insignificant in the sheme of things when you are on record as such a staunch supporter of the FO. Baffling.
  20. This is the move that you question? Ranaudo is a RIch Gale type pitcher -- a big guys who throws soft. He might be a #4 or 5 for a couple of years, and that would be his ceiling. No big loss.
  21. He he. You have no idea.
  22. In Brooklyn, NY people would call you a Mensch. This is a Yiddish term which means a man of integrity and that term worked it's way into the Brooklyn vernacular beyond the Jewish community.
  23. It is interesting to me that so many people have suc strong negative feelings about him, and from what I can see it is based on very little in the way of verifiable actions by him. As for the Steinbrenner remarks about him, the other part of that story is that JH thought it was one of the most uncomfortable converstaions that he has had, and he thought George's remarks were completely inappropriate.
  24. My recollection is that Schiraldi threw harder than Ranaudo. The 86 post season destroyed Schiraldi.
