  1. Oh yes, Gale Sayers. He was the most exciting running back of all time.
  2. RIP Send'em in Kim.
  3. I could live with this. This would be fantastic.
  4. I'll bitch and moan about whatever I damn well please, whenever I damn well please. LOL!! It is my right as an American on the internet. And it is the right of everyone else, even non-US citizens, to ignore me or disagree with me. My wife isn't going to listen to me about the Red Sox, so I need an outlet. Posting my thoughts doesn't take up anyone's time unless they consent to reading my posts. If they consent, then buyer beware. Don't get mad at me for subjecting yourself to my musings.
  5. Pal, I think that is a great idea, but I don't know if the numbers would work and if the Sox would want competition from their own AAA team for ticket sales in Boston. Te other issue that I am curious about is whether the Sox could walk away from Fenway.
  6. Yep. She's an Australian Shepherd.
  7. Yes, the dog in my avatar is my girl. A sweet dog with a lot of personality.
  8. Fred, my Dad felt much the same way about Fenway. It reminded him of that ballpark.
  9. I was wondering who would be responsible for the upkeep of Fenway if the city of Boston finally got its act together so the Red Sox could get a state of the art facility. The Red Sox own Fenway. If the ballpark can't be torn down, they wouldn't be able to sell it. Boston is not going to add a second franchise. Would the city buy it from them? It just seems to me that ownership is tied to Fenway whether they like it or not.
  10. I don't know how the landmark laws work. There was a beautiful old stone church in my neighborhood when I was a child. I was disappointed to see that it had been torn down and replaced with a school. My research revealed that the Church was eligible for landmark status. Based on what I read, the pastor decided against pursuing the status because the church no longer had the congregation yo support the upkeep of the old church, so he opted to tear it down. I wonder who is responsible for the perpetual upkeep of Fenway.
  11. [quote=Spudboy;941008 No one likes to hear "I told you so" at all. Let alone over and over and over again.Spud, you sound like a man who had been married too many times
  12. Fred, I always respect by our baseball opinions.
  13. It was pretty much the same thing with Gretzky. I saw a lot of Orr. I was big into hockey in those years. Gretzky greatness wasn't just numbers. Gretzky like Orr did things that just left you shaking your head in disbelief.
  14. Agreed. I don't think anyone goes above him on the list, but Gretzky is right there with him. He didn't skate like Orr and wasn't explosive like Orr, but he did control the game and he simply obliterated the record book.
  15. Different eras. Or transformed the game but his career was much too short. Gretzky wasn't a product of a scoring explosion. His numbers even in that context are in a different universe. He like Orr would do things that you just couldn't believe what you had seen. He had the best instincts of any player that I have seen. It was like he had eyes in the back of his head.
  16. Life expectancies were about almost 20 years less in 1930 than today.
  17. He had problems with balls of the wall and balls in the air. He was always stumbling around. He played every ball like it was a live hand grenade or a hot potato.
  18. Beltran may just be broken down at this point. If not, he could be a very dangerous bat at Yankee Stadium. As for AFraud, I can't see the Yankees eating $61 million, but I could see them eating half and cutting him after this season.
  19. Cespedes had no clue fielding balls off the monster.
  20. I think we are saying the same thing. Neither of us expects a last place 90+ loss team again, because we don't expect to flat out suck like 2014.
  21. I fully expect that his conversion to the OF will go smoother than Youk's conversion to the OF.
  22. Vic didn't play. I wouldn't say that he underperformed. Maybe he can return to good health. That would be great, but maybe he is just broken down. Bogaerts didn't have an off-year. He was a rookie, but he has room to grow. Miley and Masterson weren't even on the team in 2014 so their regression didn't contribute to our last place finish. Craig was barey on the team.
  23. I don't think last year's problem was pervasive underperformance. There was underperformance, notably from Pedroia and Napoli. The bigger problem was that we rolled out a team that was not very talented. Bradley and Middlebrooks were clearly overrated prospects. We had garbage in our OF as a whole, partly due to Victorino missing almost the entire season. Our catching corps was bad too. The difference this year will be the upgrades through acquisitions of Hanley and Panda and Castillo more so than it will be a reurn to norms by the underperformers. I expect that Napoli will return to his norms, but there seems to be a concern that last season's performance by Pedroia may be his new norm. I hope not, because a high performing Pedroia drives this team. Xander was a rookie, so he didn't regress. We don't know what he is yet, but the good news is he has room to develop. I think our offense will be much better this season, but it will not be because of a reversal of team-wide regression in 2014.
  24. One day Ortiz will start to slip. He has been as reliable as a fine Swiss watch.
  25. Yep, Orr did change hockey. He is at the top of a very short list.
