  1. Then why aren't every hitters stats as good in that situation? Where is he in relation to the league norm in that situation? If he is far above the league norm, the explanation about pitchers pitching to the situation doesn't hold water. Clutch sounds like the only good explanation. Also, you acknowledge that pitchers pitch to situations. Why shouldn't hitters adapt to different situations?
  2. I love your approach and philosophy about baseball.
  3. "takes advantage of ....those situations a little more." That sounds like "clutch". You could have said that in 1 word instead of the 14 that you used.
  4. So the stats provided establish that he knows what he is doing in those situations and couldn't improve by trying something different, but they don't establish: A. that he is doing something different in that situation or B. that he is clutch? How do you account for the difference if it is not A or B?
  5. And he like you understands when I am joking. Plu
  6. And around the circle we go. If he learned to shorten up his swing and make contact it could be better. How do you explain that his stats are better in that situation than his overall stats? Clutch?
  7. I hope that he smokes the minors. If he starts slow, there will be a lot of jealousy directed at him by other players.
  8. I can understand that this would not sit well with US players. I am glad that the Red Sox got him, but $31 million is very high for any 19 year old. Nevermind, that we paid $62 million overall.
  9. So, does this indicate that he is in fact changing his approach in those situations, or merely that he is "clutch"? Lol!
  10. I don't doubt that Napoli tried it, and that it didn't work for him. That doesn't mean that he isn't immune from criticism for his inability to execute in those situations. There is no validity, statistical otherwise, that a swing from the heels method is more productive in those situations.
  11. Wade Boggs saw a lot of pitches too.
  12. You can also be sued for defaming someone, but the point of free speech is except in very rare circumstances, the government cannot imprison you for your speech. No one is forced to provide you with a platform to exercise that speech, so you are right that forums can ban you if they disagree with you. Newspapers and magazines don't have to publish our opinions either. But even heavily moderated boards do not treat criticism of the FO as rule infractions subject to banning.
  13. And maybe he would be more productive if he worked on shortening up on his swing and just trying to make contact in certain situations. Acknowledging his productivity doesn't mean that he couldn't be more productive if he tried a different approach. The fact that Napoli is productive is not proof that the swing from the heels approach is superior to a situationally strategic approach. It doesn't prove that at all.
  14. You'll get no argument from me on this.
  15. I loved every minute of it.
  16. That's exactly how it works.
  17. We are in a post steroid era. Power is not as plentiful. Spitball brought up Adam Dunn. Dunn is a huge specimen who was a 35+ HR guy who walked a lot. You tolerate K's from that kind of guy. It's the 20-25 HR guys who annoy me when they swing from the heels regardless of the situation.
  18. My complaints are not limited to Napoli. Far too many guys take the same swing for the fences no matter the situation. It drives me crazy.
  19. Same argument same answer different thread.
  20. The law of large numbers are that I will never get beheaded by a terrorist, but that gives me little comfort if it happens. I don't mean to overdramatize, but when that duck is sitting on third base and the batter takes three and sits down, it gives me little solace to think that it doesn't effect his overall productivity.
  21. Can't you tak a hint? They are talking about us behind our backs.
  22. Sure. it seemed that Salty who had problems making contact to make a productive out would manage to make contact to hit into bases loaded DPs.
  23. If there were no distinction, keeping score would be very easy -- H or O -- that would be it.
  24. We already discussed this. See http://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/11945-Hello-11-Active-Members?p=942309&viewfull=1#post942309 Don't carryover arguments from other threads. Not good Kimmi. Tsk Tsk.
  25. I get that, but whenI am at the game at there is a man on 2nd or 3rd with no one out, I want the goundball to second not the k. At that point, the law of large numbers is meaningless to me.
