  1. Napoli is performing like the Sleep Apnea surgery didn't work. The first base job is on a platter for Allen Craig who has done nothing to warrant additional playing time. Instead of winning the job, he is playing himself off the roster.
  2. It could inject some energy into the team and give the pitchers a sense of urgency.
  3. Agreed. I was referring to the pitching, but failed to specify. As for the hitting, I hope Hanley gets back soon. We need some big run production to win ocassionally while the pitching is stinking like this. Right now, we are running out a lineup with Napoli hitting under .200, and our catchers and Craig and Nava are all hitting below the Mendoza line. We need Hanley big time to produce some runs with Pedroia and Ortiz and Panda.
  4. The starting pitching is a total s*** show. There's no if, what's and buts about it. I hold no comfort in the fact that the sttats indicate that they shouldn't stay this bad. It's not a big help if the pitching is 20th out of 30 teams instead of dead last. That too will be a horror show, and they will have to work their asses of to get to that point.
  5. We have to hope they turn things around before things start spiraling toward the drain.
  6. Don't jump yet Spud. Things are never as bad as they look when a team is playing like this. We will not have 3 starters hitting under .200. The starting pitching will not have a 5.63 ERA. Plus, the rest of the division is a pile of manure.
  7. A month ago people were abused for holding the same opinion. It's a collection of mediocrity and it is unravelling much quicker than I had anticipated.
  8. How many guys do we have hitting under .200? Jeesh!
  9. No command tonight for Tazawa tonight. He may already be a victim of overwork.
  10. It looks like we could get to enjoy a 7 run rule night from Buchholz.
  11. Good night for one of my fantasy teams. Hanley is injured and Bunch is stinking up the place.
  12. Porcello was at best the #3 in his own team's rotation. That aside, I don't think that 1 good season in 6 full seasons elevates him to a number 2. When he signed his contract, he had been at best a #3 by all measures for almost his entire 6 year career. Whether he will do better, is not the point in the context of what I am saying. I hope they had solid information that he will improve, but at the time he signed he had been a career #3. The contract set a new value level for #3s and surely inflated the cost of pitching.
  13. Hanley's hitting has been the brightest spot on the 2015 squad. I hope the injury isn't too bad.
  14. If you take into consideration the time value of money, which you need to do in or to have a valid comparison, it is not close to double.
  15. Let me see your work on this. I have to see how $155 million over 6 years is worth twice as much as $82.5 over 4 years. Sounds like some fuzzy math.
  16. Kluber has had one great season and he is 29 years old. He doesn't come close to Lester. Tanaka has had two-thirds of one excellent season and looks like he is heading to Mark Prior permanent residency on the DL Cueto has not been as consistent or as durable as Lester Darvish was off to a nice start to his career and now is MIA due to TJ
  17. It is not double Porcello's deal. It is for 2 more seasons. Big difference.
  18. Seriously Bells, comparing Porcello to Lester. You are out on a limb that will get sawed off.
  19. The Red Sox have established a new market level for middle of the rotation pitchers. Maybe Porcello becomes a #2 or even a #1, but he isn't one yet. When he signed, he was a #3. That will be the new target for agents of middle of the rotation guys. The Red Sox FO helped accelerate the inflation of pitching cost with this deal. Whether it turns out to be a good deal, is not the point that I was making or debating. It was surprising to me that Ben was a market maker in this instance as he had not done that in his tenure. Theo, on the other hand, set the market several times during his tenure.
  20. That's what I thought, but it doesn't fit U.N.'s prospects in the league which is why I thought there was a translation issue.
  21. "Nigh"? In Spanish does that mean stink, because that wouldd be appropriate.
  22. And Spitball's post carries added weight as he is usually on the opposite side of issues from SBF and he appreciates the game in a different way than Fred.
  23. Leon is a veteran of the minor leagues. I don't think his experience carries a lot more weightthan Swihart's.
  24. I don't think this group of pitchers will continue at this level of ineffectiveness, but I don't think they will improve consistently enough to be a middle of the pack rotation which they will need to be to remain at .500 and be competitve. I continue to shake my head about locking down Miley for 3 years. I just don't see the wisdom in that.
