  1. You grew up while being a member of this site. Congratulations!
  2. I was surprised that they sent him down so quickly. I thought they were going to try a platoon for a while, but they had little patience.
  3. And he isn't earning it.
  4. The lame duck scenario would suck, because that would mean a lost season with nothing to look forward to until Thanksgiving when some FA talks heat up.
  5. I have heard people mention Ozzie's name on these shows. Oye!
  6. Manny never wanted to be here. Thank goodness that we couldn't give him away until 2008. BTW, the offense has really never had that fear factor since he paired up with Big Papi. They were a wrecking crew. They made opposing pitchers pay.
  7. They should stay with the plan and upgrade the pitching soon. I don't think they should mail it in the rest of the way. I can't imagine that Ben can think that he will have a job next season if he mails it in. I have to believe that he is trying. Ownership may have lost confidence in him and told him to stand down, because they fear he will throw away more of their money. Maybe it is a lame duck situation and Ben's only hope is for a miracle.
  8. JBJ should be traded. He is playing well in AAA and has re-established some value. If he comes up and pees himself again, he will undo the value that he has rebuilt in AAA. Get something for him before he becomes a spare part.
  9. Spud, Ben had better try to dig out of the hole. His survival depends on it. You and I are old, but I have never seen 3 last place finishes in 4 seasons. That is historically bad, and it is inexcusable considering the size of our payroll. If they finish last again, heads will roll all over the organization.
  10. it would be nice if he would take when he comes up to Fenway instead of just watering the grass like he did on his prior visits .
  11. yes, fixing the offense is trickier. One or two hot hitters can have a cascading effect that lifts an entire lineup's offensive production. Will 1or 2 of our current guys get hot? Or do we need to add a bat? There is no such dynamic at work with our pitchers. The pitching simply needs to be upgraded.
  12. Throw in Masterson and get a second box of balls.
  13. Happy Birthday, RSFFL! How old are you now?
  14. I don't think the offense needs a total revamp. Some of these guys will get hot. Pedey is red hot. XB has gotten very hot and consistent. I expect Mookie's hits will start falling. If Ortiz still has his bat speed as I have been reading, he should start putting more balls in the seats. It will not take much to get the offense going. A key hit here and there and the run production will increase. Maybe they get a backup catcher to upgrade Leon's offense. When is Hannigan due back? Maybe they get someone to platoon with Napoli or play 1B full time if Naps continues hitting at the Mendoza line. Everyone is so negative about the offense improving, but that can change rather quickly.
  15. They are immune to mojo.
  16. Whether or not it is their fault is for the post-mortems. They should attempt to fix this instead of just throwing in the towel and riding what we have. Standing pat doesn't seem like a very hopeful option.
  17. I don't think it is hopeless, unless they decide to do nothing and give up. We are not that far off from the pack and the strategy was to hang with the pack until reinforcements were needed. They are needed. They sould execute their strategy. Otherwise, their strategy going in was just BS and there was no intent to address issues (other than minor tweaking, i.e., d'Aza). Issues need to be addressed when you are behind, not when you are in first place.
  18. It's the fans fault-- packing Fenway every night with fans that understand the game puts tremendous pressure on the players, not to mention the anguish it causes for management and the owners. All of those entitled masses yearning to see decent baseball while lining the pockets of the owners and players with riches. Repent!
  19. The strategy going into the season was to stay competitive and hang with the pack while addressing issues and needs during the season. We have stayed within striking distance up to this point despite playing awful in every aspect of the game. The O's, Yankees and Toronto are all playing well right now and the pack is leaving us behind. Now, is the time to address the needs. That was the strategy... right?
  20. The news today is that Victorino is getting closer to a rehab assignment, which sadly only means that he is that much closer to another DL stint.
  21. No rumored moves by the Sox today. Another game will come off the schedule-- approaching irrelevance at an accelerated rate. We will continue to do battle with pitchers with 5 plus ERA s supported by a lineup that can't score runs. Even if the hitting comes to life, which I think it will, the poor pitching will be too much to overcome.
  22. Lol@ Eck last night for blasting Miley and Farrell. He hurled some good lines. "Is he on acid." They ate his lunch." "He should have been embarrassed at his performance." "Farrell should not have given him respect." These are not exact quotes, but they are pretty accurate in meaning. If SBF had gone on a rant like that on this board, he would have been viciously attacked. Thank you, Eck. The rant was well earned.
  23. Look at the bright side. Tomorrow we will roll another 5.5 ERA punching bag to the mound to face a good hitting team that has won 7 in a row.
  24. Miley basically said no comment. He made no apology. Eck, has been incredulous:"they just ate your lunch... and you are complaining? You should be embarrassed."
