we've seen a pile alright. I' ll wait for the pile of good pitchers before I sing their praises. Has there been a big turnover in our scouting department recently? How long has this crew been in place?

So it was a pure salary dump where we ate most of the money. Can we give away Cy Kelly?

We get Josh Rutledge in return. I am not sure what we want with him. He had been a very hot prospect with the Rockies a few years ago. He got a couple of shots with them when Tulo was injured. He never panned out. He is 25 years old and he plays SS. We have Xander for SS We have Holt as our super utility guy. I can't see that he will have any role in our organization.

The Mets said no. They knew enough to keep him. DeGrom was an example. You are derailing the larger point into a debate about an example. We haven't had a pitcher of any consequence produced by our system since Buch. That is a long time. I really don't care about a bunch of explanations and excuses. We are just not good at drafting and developing pitching. There are many top pitchers that have been drafted after our draft picks. Our record speaks for itself.

There has been an organizational drought with regard to pitching. Plus, aces aren't limited to the first round. DeGrom was a 9 th round pick. We are bad at finding and developing pitchers.

It is a bit early for returns on 2012, but Ball is barely showing tiny baby steps of progress in our system. Let's not make it about 2012 or even about top pitchers. We shouldn't lose focus that this organization has a bad record turning out pitchers period. They don't even turn out mid level or back end rotation types. It is a huge organizational weakness. It has nothing to do with draft position.

We will be finishing last for a third time in 3 years, but there is never a good pitcher available when we get a high draft choice? Trey Ball? Excuses. Our organization just doesn't know anything about pitching.

Do you think the coaching staff is holding him down and force feeding him nachos, pizza and beer. He is the only fat slob on the roster that I can see, so why wouldn't that be his fault? What about personal responsibility?

I would be on board with this strategy, but I would be shocked if they dump Panda. By the way, at the rate that he is gaining weight, we may see Panda sporting a Mama Cass Muu Muu in September. Our marketing department would view it as an opportunity and sell the hell out of it.

They' ll run the idea by Bill James first. LOL!!

If Napoli gets moved at the Trading Deadline, they can move Hanley to first base this season. If it doesn't work out, they will know whether they need to get a first baseman in the offseason. Playing 2 months at first in meaninless games would be a good crash course to teach him the position without sacrificing another season. If we wait until next season to move Panda and hanley around the infield, the results would likely be disastrous.

Reports are that the Padres have everyone for sale. It might be worth kicking the tires on a few of their pitchers, especially Shields. His salary isn't bad, and if the Padres want a nice prospect in return they would have to eat a chunk of that. That should leave plenty of other payroll for next season and beyond.
