    some people don't want to blame Ben and place the blame on other FO members. There are a couple of things for certain at this juncture. The rotation rolled out at the beginning of the season had very little probability of succeeding. There were no favorable metrics indicating a probability of success. This rotation was put together with a hopes and erroneous projections. They hoped the Masterson would regain his velocity. They wrongly projected that Porcello would build on his 2014 performance despite being a 4.40 bottom of the rotation pitcher over his 6 full year career. They hoped that Buch would stay healthy. They hoped that Kelly would find the missing piece. I don't know with certainty who is too blame for this collection of garbage, but it didn't build itself. The other thing that is certain is that the person or persons responsible for this mess need to find another line of work.

    The same GM that would give almost $100 million to an obese third baseman that gets winded when he runs more than 90 feet, that can't field, that can't hit for power and that can't hit left-handed pitching. The same GM that gives $100 million to a guy that has never played the OF and puts him in LF. The same GM that thinks these were value acquisitions.

    Glad I missed this mess tonight. Ben should lose his job solely for wasting $82 million on the bag of s*** Porcello.

    Two pitchers with bad win/loss records, but I would take Quintana over Porcello if I were betting. I am not betting, and we got destroyed two nights in a row, so maybe their hitters are tired.

    It looks like he is headed to the 7 Day Concussion DL, but it is not official.

    From what we have seen thus far, he is not worth more money than Abreu or Puig. Right now, I am hoping that he can handle a platoon role and not get injured. I am not convinced that they couldn't have found his caliber of player without spending all the dough. I really don't care much about the $ as the team has plenty of it. I just expected more from him. I didn't expect him to be an All Star, but so far we have gotten nect to nothing out of him.

    I can understand Papelbon making the trade conditional on closing. He is concerned about his career. The Nats could have said no and pursued another arm. The Nats agreed after speaking with Storen, but I could see Storen being resentful. He has done the job and earned the spot. If Papelbon does the job, there should be no problem, but if he blows one or 2 there could be grumblings. I was surprised to read that Papelbon is the career saves leader for the Phillies as well as for the Red Sox.

    When I heard about the play on the radio on the drive home last night, I thought the same thing. If a player carries the ball out of bounds, there is a ground rule. I though it was two bases. Very surprising ruling. I have never heard of that rule prior to last night.

    I heard the explanation that on a play in the outfield it is not considered to be a catch until the fielder attempts to take the ball out of the glove. I had never heard that before. Control is not enough.

    They were both past their primes, but having Pedro and Schilling at the top of our rotation in 2004 was pretty enjoyable.

    He was a treat. I saw a lot of the greats from the Mid-60's on. I never saw Koufax in person and I don't remember seeing him on TV. He retired when I was 7 years old. Pedro was an event. The whole town buzzed on days he pitched.

    I heard on the radio on the way home that he is having concussion symptoms.

    MVP should have made the thread. It was the best shot we had on Pedro's night. Glad that I am at the Mers game watching two good pitchers-- Syndegard and Shields. Remember, if you take away Miley's bad starts, he's a #3. I was going to check in occasionally, but I don't think so. Have a nice night.

    Good point. He is an icon for a generation of Sox. It would be a PR nightmare of he hit # 500 for another team. Not to mention the loss of revenue.

    I agree. That is the conundrum. If he stays healthy he is productive and the team wants to keep him. If he gets injured, they wan to trade him but they can't.

    This is following the Omar Minaya theory of building a bullpen which was get relievers that had a good track record after they have had an off year. It really never worked for the Mets. The most significant piece of news in this is that Buchholz has been moved to the 60 day DL meaning that his earliest return date is now September 9th.

    The scouting department probably needs to be upgraded and that is also the GM's resposibility. There are probably some exceutives out there tht had been GMs that would take the job.

    I am pretty sure that we can finish last 3 out of 4 years without him.

    Yes but we beat them out for Josh Rutledge. We are building for the future.
